Materials: 20-30 grams of any worsted weight yarn, size I (5.5 mm) crochet hook

Gauge: after two rounds, square measures 3”; 14 sts in pattern=4”

Measurements: 12” square

Abbreviations:
ch: chain

ch-sp: chain space

sl st: slip stitch

sp(s): space(s)

sk: skip

ea: each

sc: single crochet

dc: double crochet

Pattern Notes:
 This is a very easy, beginner friendly square, made almost entirely with double
crochet. It is simple to make the square any size you want, just by repeating the last
two rounds and adding an additional pattern repeat each side each time.

 It’s similar to the traditional granny square, and was designed in memory of my
grandmother, who loved to crochet grannies

Pattern:
Ch 7, join with a sl st to form a circle.

Round 1: Ch 5 (counts as first dc, ch-2 sp sp, now and throughout pattern), [(dc, ch 4, dc-first
corner space made, ch 2) three times, dc, ch 4], all in circle, join with a sl st to first dc: 8 dc and
8 ch-sps made.

Round 2: Ch 3 (counts as dc, now and throughout pattern), 2 dc in next ch-2 sp, dc in next dc, *
ch 2, (dc, ch 4, dc), all in first ch-4 corner sp, ch 2, dc in next dc, 2 dc in next ch-2 sp, dc in next
dc (first block made).

Rep from * twice more, ch 2, (dc, ch 4, dc) in next corner sp, ch 2, join with a sl st to first dc: 24
dc and 12 sps made.

Round 3: Ch 5, sk next 2 dc, dc in next dc, 2 dc in next ch-2 sp, dc in next dc, ch 2, * (dc, ch 4,
dc) in next ch-4 corner sp, ch 2, dc in next dc, 2 dc in next ch-2 sp, dc in next dc, ch 2, sk next 2
dc, dc in next dc, 2 dc in next ch-2 sp, dc in next dc, ch 2.

Rep from * twice more, (dc, ch 4, dc) in next ch-4 sp, ch 2, dc in next dc, 2 dc in next ch-2 sp,
join with a sl st to first dc: 40 dc and 16 sps made.
