Prehistoric people lived thousands of years ago in parts of Europe, Asia and Africa. We know
about them because scientists found fossils. They lived in caves and made fire using a special
stone called flint. They used stones, wood and bones to make tools. They hunted large
animals. They also collected plants and fruit to eat. Prehistoric people didn’t have clothes.
They wore animal fur to keep warm. They couldn’t talk like we do today. They couldn’t read or
write, either.

Hello. I’m Julian. I’m ten years old. When I was five, I was shy and very active. I could jump and
run all day. Now, I’m confident. My mum says I’m lazy, but I play a lot at school and I always
read books.
I like reading about prehistoric animals. My favourite prehistoric animal is the sabre-toothed
squirrel. It could climb trees, but it couldn’t fly. What about you? What were you like when you
were young? What could you do? What’s your favourite prehistoric animal? What could it do?

The Percussion Orchestra: This is the biggest percussion orchestra in the country, and it offers a
special concert every four months for children aged 7 to 12 years old who play percussion instruments:
the drums, cymbals, xylophone or tambourine. Before the concert, you can meet the musicians and
practise with them. Then, during the concert, you can play with them. If you can’t play a musical
instrument, don’t worry, because you can also sing.
The Park Stables: Would you rather go horse riding or have a picnic on your birthday? Come to our
beautiful stables, and you can do both! Up to ten children can ride at the same time. We take food and
drinks with us, ride the horses for two hours in the park, and then have a picnic by the lake. At the end
of the day, if it’s very hot, we can have an ice lolly. It’s the best birthday party you can have!

I’m George and I live in London. My father is a dentist and he works very hard. His
clinic is near my school, so we take the underground together in the morning.
The train is usually full. A lot of people like reading books or watching videos on their
mobile phones. Yesterday, I sat next to a boy who had a shiny, expensive phone. He
was very kind – he let me play with his phone!
When we got to Highgate station, the boy jumped up and said, ‘Oh no! It’s my stop!’
and ran out of the train. I shouted, ‘Wait! Your phone!’ but he didn’t hear me. My dad
said, ‘Don’t worry, I can take the phone to the police station.’
After school, my dad picked me up. The first thing he said was, ‘Guess who came to
my clinic this morning? The boy who forgot his phone!’ I didn’t understand. ‘He’s my patient!’
