Technology And Technology Essay
Effects of Technology Type and Use on Group Performance Rates
Technology has arguably had one of the greatest impacts on our society in the past decade. It has
integrated itself from only a few elements in life to now countless different ways and methods of
usage throughout day to day activities (Lenhart, Purcell, Smith, Zickuhr, 2010). There has been a
steady increase in technology use not only with teenagers, but also adults. An aspect that is also on
the rise with technology is the use of the internet (Lenhart et al., 2010). Some of the most popular
uses of the internet include online shopping, reading news outlets, researching economic and health
information, social media, and countless other means. Of the variety of uses for the internet, one of
the most common is social networking; almost three fourths of individuals between the ages of 18
29 frequently use a social networking website (Lenhart et al., 2010). Whether it is updating a profile
or posting a photo, a common theme between the different forms of social networking and
technology is communication.
More than half of the individuals with a device use social media networks to communicate with
other individuals (Lenhar et al., 2010). These different uses of technology can be conducted on
several different types of devices, however, there are two types of devices that remain highly
popular in society. Among those between the ages of 18 29, approximately 93% of those
individuals own a cell phone. The percent of individuals who own cellphones continues to
increase as well and has more than doubled among young teens in six years (Lenhart et al., 2010).
Wireless computers like laptops have also increased in prevalence and continue to increase in
popularity. Laptops are now a more popular choice compared to desktop computers (Lenhar et al.,
2010). Technology, however, is not only making an impact on how we communicate and interact
socially, but also professionally (Attaran Attaran, 2001). There have been some major changes in the
work environment by having individuals, instead of working separately, work as a team.
Technology is now being used in the workplace to create more collaborative processes (Attaran
Attaran, 2001). Electronic devices are

I do believe that the text is attempting to find appropriate gender roles for both sexes. from
watching the show I as well as many other people believe that the gender roles for both sexes are
being redefined almost completely opposite to wear eyes both the female and the male or
equivalent. In the show once you get deeper into it it doesn t for me when it does infer that both
men and women are evil yet some are kind. Even the kind ones have an evil side to getting what
they want I believe the whole concept of the orange is the new black has each character s fate

outcome of the characters fate is influenced by the opposite gender or even the same gender. The

Again, I did not imagine the group members engaging at the level they did with this activity

or would they find this activity beneficial. Honestly, I really believe that I over analyzed my
activities and my own ability to fully connect the activities for the group members to understand
and relate to themselves. I felt good and proud of myself for implementing the activities because
they worked well with the group. In fact, some of the responses I got from members I was not
expecting it became authentic rather than role playing for some. Group members were then asked to
write down the three things that influenced their thoughts about themselves and place them on an
index card. Preceding the writing I informed members that we were writing away our negative
thoughts that defined our perception of us as an individual. I believe all group members begin to
feel a sense of empowerment or a sense of hope of changing their negative thoughts to positives. The
next part of my session I gave the group members information sheets that listed positive traits so they
can begin to think about themselves in a positive manner and pick out the good they see in
themselves rather the negative. Lastly, I wrapped up the session by summarizing our activities we
completed and going over a homework assignment they can complete to encourage and motivate
themselves daily. We

Role of Strategic Training and Development in Organizational Success
Dr. S.K.Prasad, Director, New Horizon Leadership Institute [email protected]
Introduction
By definition, training and development refers to the process to obtain or transfer knowledge, skills
and abilities needed to carry out a specific activity or task. The benefits of training and development
for both the employer and employee are, in fact, much broader. To meet current and future business
demands, training and development encompasses a wide range of learning actions, from training for
tasks and knowledge sharing to improved customer service and career development, thus expanding
individual, group and organizational effectiveness.

For applied learning, a supportive work environment is critical.

To reap business benefits, HR should focus on: 1) designing training and development, keeping end
results in mind, such as performance and capacity goals; 2) leveraging learning/knowledge assets;
and 3) including key organizational characteristics in the overall integrated approach to training and
development. Training and development programs also offer opportunities to employees to build
internal and external networks and learn from other participants.

Today, the relationship between the organization and the employee has changed. There is greater
emphasis placed on the value of individual and team contributions to find business solutions. The
employee is viewed as a learning customer , bringing personal preferences and motivation to the
workplace. The learning organization therefore requires an environment that supports growth for
individual capability and experience and, at the same time, increases business performance. For
learning to truly benefit both the organization and the employee, the employer must consider the
learner the employee as a vital investment for business success.

The Value of Training and Development

For the organization to gain true value from strategic training and development, senior management
must be fully committed to organizational learning . Consequently, it is important that HR
understands the concept of training transfer (i.e., transfer of learning).
Optical Illusions Research Paper
Illusions can be early illusions, twentieth century illusions, twenty first century illusions, and new
illusions. Optical illusions started out in ancient Greece. John R. Opel made one of the earliest
optical illusion in 1854. Many optical illusions have been found in cave paintings. An optical illusion
is not appraised as an invention, but instead the result of a man mimicking the geometric form seen
in nature. First, our eyes skim, then our brains tend to jump to conclusions. The impact on seeing
something starts with light rays bouncing off an object. These rays enter the eyes through the
cornea. The cornea is a transparent layer forming the front of the eye. The cornea refracts the light
rays as they go through dark part of the eye, called the pupil. The iris(a flat, colored, ring shaped
membrane behind the cornea of the eye, with an adjustable circular opening(pupil) in the center)
contracts or expands to change the amount of light that goes through. Then, the light rays go through
the lens of your eye, biconvex structure in the eye that, along with the cornea, helps to refract light to
be focused on the retina. Last, the cell in the retina, called cones and rods, turn the light into
electrical signals. That gets sent through the optic nerves, where the mind clarifies them.... Show

There are two other types, but all trick your eyes and brain. The first type is physiological illusion.
The physiological illusions are created when your brain and eyes have too much stimulus. The
stimulus could be light, movement, or color. An example of a physiological illusion would be the
images that you see after staring at a bright light. The other type of illusion is a cognitive illusion.
They are pictures that cause an object to look distorted. For example, the spinning snakes is a type
of cognitive illusion. The snakes look like they are moving but are actually still. The shape of the
snakes make them appear to be
Officer Tabor Argumentative Essay
On 25 March 2017, at 0220 hours in the City of Goddard, Officer Tabor was traveling Westbound
at the 20000 block of West Kellogg in his patrol vehicle. As he approached 20300 West Kellogg, he
decided that he would check the business lot. While slowing his vehicle and maneuvering it into the
right hand turn lane, he visually saw a small sized SUV type vehicle facing South at the stop signof
Main Street and West Kellogg. While executing his right hand turn, Officer Tabor s headlights shined
onto the drivers side and front interior of the vehicle stopped at the stop sign. This facilitated
Officer Tabor to visually see that the driver was not wearing their safety belt and was instead leaned
over the center console, presumebly looking at the cellular phone being held by the front seat
passenger.
As Officer Tabor continued to the Northern most part of Main Street in the City of Goddard, he
noticed with the aid of his driver s side mirror that the same vehicle was still sitting at a complete
stop at the stop sign of Main Street and Kellogg. This seemed to be abnormal behavior for just after

The Setting in Hound of the Baskervilles and The Signalman

The Hound of the Baskervilles was written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle in 1902 carrying the genre
of a horror story, whilst The Signalman was written by Charles Dickens in 1860, carrying the genre
of a ghost story.

Both writers use the same type of setting throughout the novels which is dismal, shadowy and
perspirating.

At the time when both novels were written, the readers who read both of the novels believed that
ghosts and huge hounds which prowled moonless, glum heaths actually existed. This had a greater
effect on the reader in the late nineteenth to the early twentieth century than it does today because

Grimpen Mire is a place where A false step yonder means death to man or beast compared to The
Signalman which is set in the same place the whole way through the text. This leads the reader to
think that the writer has created a character which is lonely and therefore might be going mad as a
consequence. The Signalman is a partially gothic tale which deals with strange, ghostly appearances
whilst the main body of the story is being narrated by the traveller who is involved by Dickens only
tell the reader the story by questioning the signalman the whole way through which is the only
purpose for the traveller being there.

The three main settings in The Hound of the Baskervilles are Baker Street which is Sherlock Holmes
place of residence, Dartmoor and Baskerville Hall whereas in The Signalman the main setting is the
signal box and the entrance to the tunnel. The writers don t seem to vary the settings in both novels
which convey to the reader that the writer is keeping the setting in the same place so that the reader
gets to know the characteristics of the setting in detail.

Conan Doyle s creation of Sherlock Holmes is very important to the detective horror story genre
because he satisfies most readers in terms of the personality of Sherlock Holmes by the way that he

Taking Ireland For The Irish Essay
Another cause common to both groups of nationalists was getting Ireland for the Irish , as O
Connell said during his efforts for Repeal, or ensuring that the Irish people had control of their own
affairs. This might not seem like a major problem today, but at that point, Ireland was being
governed from another country that many felt didn t have their best interests at heart. William Ewart
Gladstone, the British Prime Minister in 1886, brought up this issue when introducing the first
Home Rule bill to the House of Commons. Because the law came to Irelandwith a foreign aspect,
and in a foreign garb , it didn t feel to the people to be truly Irish law or coming from their needs.
Because of this, even legislation with good intentions were met with distrust and displeasure. He
argued that sometimes it wasn t enough that the laws were good; they needed to come from the
right source as well. There were, however, points to be left to the Crown, including imperial affairs,
the armed forces, and foreign relations. They also shouldn t pass a law favoring one religion over
another. The Home Rule Conference agreed on these points, asking only for control over domestic
affairs to be placed in the hands of an Irish Parliament. They also agreed in the belief that increasing
Irish autonomy would strengthen and honor the Crown rather than weakening or degrading it.
An Irish government was also a goal of the revolutionary nationalists, though they supported a
different form, which will be
The Use Of Glycerol Residue
ABSTRACT: The use of glycerol residue, a palm oil waste from Oleochemical industries as a raw
material for the production of succinic acid with immobilized cell fermentation process was
investigated. In this work, the raw material, immobilized cells to produced succinic acid were
characterized by Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrometry (FTIR) and Scanning Electron
Microscope instruments. Based on the results, the functional group appearing for treated and
commercial glycerol is the hydroxyl, aromatic methoxyl, alkenes, soap, carbonyl and alcohol
group. The hydroxyl group which is O H appeared at a spectra value of 3394.2700 cm 1for the
treated glycerol and 3299.9600 cm 1 for the commercial group. Respectively. From the analysis of
SEM for bead, it was found that majority of pores fall within range and the shapes was ellipsoid
and a thick skin around strains was detectable, therefore indicating that immobilized cell prepared

Tale Of Two Cities Satire
Charles Dickens is perhaps one of the most notable English authors in history. His novels have
undoubtedly become household names, and his works have received mass recognition. Be that as
it may, A Tale of Two Cities has been the subject of vast criticism over the years. A Tale of Two
Cities received immense criticism, especially by modern critics, for its exaggerations of the French
aristocracy and its tedious character development. Others choose to praise his works, believing that
Dickens perfectly captures the essence of the French Revolution in a picturesque story (Davis).

It is expressed, Young Jerry witnesses his father s attack on his mother as Jerry takes her by the
ears on the bed and knocks her head against the headboard (Glancy A Tale 99). This is an example
of his father s cruel marital actions. The source continues, He has just witnessed his father s fishing
also, and although he is terrified by what he sees, the next morning he tells Jerry that he wants to
be a resurrection man when he grows up. We can presume that he will also adopt his father s brutal
treatment of women. Young Jerry justifies his desire to be like his father by stating, I thought you
knowed everything, Father (Dickens 165). Dickens provides yet another example of how in
eighteenth century Europe, roles are inherited and determined by birth, even unexpected roles such
as treatment of others. Young Jerry admires his father, even when his father s actions are anything
but admirable. Dickens ability to incorporate all such elements of satire adds interest and humor to
the novel. Readers can find pleasure in noticing each detail, and can slowly piece together every
little detail that Dickens so perfectly ties
Workforce Diversity
I. Introduction

As we enter the 21st century, workforce diversity has become an essential business concern. In the
so called information age, the greatest assets of most companies are now on two feet (or a set of
wheels). Undeniably, there is a talent war raging. No company can afford to unnecessarily restrict its
ability to attract and retain the very best employees available.

Generally speaking, the term Workforce Diversity refers to policies and practices that seek to
include people within a workforce who are considered to be, in some way, different from those in the
prevailing constituency.

The world s increasing globalization requires more interaction among people from diverse cultures,
beliefs, and backgrounds than ever ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
c. As a Resource Imperative
The changing demographics in the workforce, that were heralded a decade ago, are now upon us.
Today s labor pool is dramatically different than in the past. No longer dominated by a homogenous
group of white males, available talent is now overwhelmingly represented by people from a vast
array of backgrounds and life experiences. Competitive companies cannot allow discriminatory
preferences and practices to impede them from attracting the best available talent within that pool.

d. As a Legal Requirement
Many companies are under legislative mandates to be non discriminatory in their employment
practices. Non compliance with Equal Employment Opportunity or Affirmative Action legislation
can result in fines and/or loss of contracts with government agencies. In the context of such
legislation, it makes good business sense to utilize a diverse workforce.

e. As a Marketing Strategy
Buying power, particularly in today s global economy, is represented by people from all walks of
life (ethnicities, races, ages, abilities, genders, sexual orientations, etc.) To ensure that their products
and services are designed to appeal to this diverse customer base, smart companies, are hiring
people, from those walks of life for their specialized insights and knowledge. Similarly, companies
who interact directly with the public are finding increasingly important to have the makeup of their
workforces reflect the makeup of their
