The American education system
The American education system requires that students complete 12 years of primary and secondary
education prior to attending university or college.
Although admission policies vary from one university to the next, most determine admission based
on several criteria, including a student s high school course of study, high school Grade Point
Average (GPA), participation in extracurricular activities, SAT or ACT exam scores, a written essay,
and possibly a personal interview.
University students pursuing a Bachelor s degree are called undergraduates, whereas students
pursuing a Master s or Doctoral degree are called graduate students. American undergraduate
students will say they are going to school or going to college, which ... Show more content on

Liberal Arts College or University: offers a university education combining natural and social
sciences as well as humanistic studies. The term college is often used where undergraduate study
is concerned. The college may be part of a university which also has graduate and professional
schools, or it may be an independent institution offering a Bachelor s degree program, with little
if any instruction at the graduate level. (Thus Harvard College is the undergraduate division of
Harvard University; Vassar College, Amherst College and Sarah Lawrence College are examples
of independent colleges, also called liberal arts colleges). The academic status of an independent
liberal arts college may be just as high as a college which is part of a university. Fine Arts and
Music are often taught in the colleges and universities described above, but may also be available
in specialized academies, schools and conservatories. See Directories at the Advising Center for
information. The Bachelor s Degree: Four years of undergraduate study lead to a Bachelor s
degree in Liberal Arts or in Science, a B.A. or B.S. degree, and qualify the graduate to apply for
admission to a graduate school. The Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) or Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree
is awarded on successful completion of a specified number of courses or units and the full degree
requirement is usually
Media And The Reporting Of Hurricane Katrina
Media and the reporting of Hurricane Katrina For this discussion we were asked to answer a
question in regards to Hurricane Katrina. The question that we were to answer was: After reading the
article, what were our thoughts and opinions about the article?
Thoughts and opinions about the article
The article is exactly what this learner expected, especially after living through Hurricane Andrew
that hit Miami, Fla years ago. So, when this learner reads the article it was exactly what she
expected from the media after such a major disaster like hurricane Katrina.
When there s a disaster like this, the media expect a lot of looting, lack of response to the disaster,
victims in need of rescue, and even death. But if the media does not believe it is sensational
enough, they will create or as this learner likes to call it lie about the facts to gain the attention they
need to create ratings for their news stations no matter what, because good news does not catch the
viewers attention nor does it help their ratings, but bad news is a attention getter, and will help raise
their ratings, and maybe even put them in line for The Alfred I. duPont Columbia University Awards
for reporters. The other things that they did not see too much of was the lawlessness or looting, so
they exaggerated the severity.
This learner wonders why they thought there would be a massive amount of looting. There area was
flooded, even if they found anything where would they take it? They needed assistance to

When a person decided to visit the Pythia, they would bring an offering such as a sacred cake
(Classical Mythology). Inquirers would also offer an animal sacrifice (The Met s Heilbrunn
Timeline of Art History). According the Met s Heilbrunn Timeline of Art History, the animals
would include oxen, goats and sheet. The sacrifice would take place in front of the temple (The
Met s Heilbrunn Timeline of Art History). Once their offerings were given, they would be
escorted into the temple and wait their turn to speak to the Pythia (Classical Mythology). The
people who came to the Oracle of Delphi would ask questions of a variety of things. The people
would ask about colonization and religion (The Oracle at Delphi). The inquirers had limitations to
when they can ask questions. During the days it was open, the setting sun was the signal for
when it was time to close. The Oracle of Delphi did not operate all year long. According to
Plutarch in a passage from Quaestiones Graecae, the inquirers were able to visit on the seventh day
of each month except during the winter season. The winter season was the time that Apollo did not
stay in Delphi (The Oracle at Delphi). During the winter, Apollo went to stay with the Hyperborean
in the north and allowed his brother Dionysus to stay at Delphi while he was gone (The Oracle at
Wav File Analysis
To compare these two file formats properly, I loaded them both into my iTunes and put them side
by side so I could easily click from one to the other. I did this because it is very hard for me to
remember the differences between two versions of the same song without hearing the exact same
part immediately after each other. Luckily for me, this song has some very distinct changes between
its mp3file and its wav file. However, when I began listening to the mp3 file I had trouble hearing
it properly which led me to have to fiddle with volume knobs. When I then loaded the wav file I
was completely blown away by the brightness and fullness of the sound as opposed to the trouble I
had with the mp3 format. I really felt like I was apart of the performance... Show more content on

Without that original recording or the one that had the specific deformity, how could I tell what I
was hearing? It continues to be a strenuous task for me because, even though I have an
understanding of what I am supposed to be hearing, I can not always hear it as everyone else does.
Reverberation is the one sound aspect that I can hear pretty consistently since it is the continuation
of a sound that can obviously be heard and counted after the beginning of the note. I hear this
specifically in the drums and cymbals of this song and it is my favorite feature since it I enjoy
reverb the most in the music I listen
Perseverance In Ww1
Not only did German soldiers exhibit struggle and perseverance, but so did the prisoners they
captured, such as the Russians. The Russian prisoners were now reduced to wearing poor
clothing, and they had to scavenge for minute morsels of food in garbage cans, yet they did not
give in (189 191). Likewise, Paul Baümer and Albert Kropp did not give in when they were
injured in French fire in Chapter Ten. They ran for cover and eventually found a dug out for
protection. Their perseverance and hard work may have saved their lives, for each s injury placed
them in the hospital (240 241). The morning after they are placed in a Catholic Hospital, the patients
in the room become disgruntled when they are awoken by prayer in the hallway. In response,
The Education For Alien Minors Act
America is known for giving opportunities for those who seek them. Every year, many immigrants
come to this country looking for an opportunity to better their lives. For many, it is a struggle to
find these opportunities. They are being exposed to a new culture, a new language, and a new
mentality. Some immigrants catch a break and go to work right away. But it is not always so easy.
Many of the immigrants who come to America are young people who accompany their families on
this odyssey. They are too young to work and their only option is to continue school. There is a huge
barrier facing them, being and undocumented student means having almost no financial help from
the government, and also having no benefits. There is also the fear of being deported while being a
student. It would be devastating to enroll in school just to be deported a short time after. These
issues have been mitigated for many undocumented students due to the Development Relief and
Education for Alien Minors act, simply known as the DREAM Act. The Development Relief and
Education for Alien Minors Act was first introduced by Representative Luis Gutierrez on April of
2001 as the Immigrant Children s Educational Advancement and Dropout Prevention Act of 2001.
The purpose of this act would have been to allow undocumented immigrant students to apply to
become protected from being deported, following this; they would have been able to apply for
residency. This act had criteria that individuals had to meet
Examples Of Optimism In Candide
Folly of Optimism There was a lack of good reasoning in hopefulness and confidence about the
future in Voltaire s novel Candide. In his novel, Voltaire s character Pangloss is responsible for the
novel s most famous idea: that all is for the best in this best of all possible worlds . A idea that is
instill into the main character Candide. This optimistic idea is the main target of Voltaires satire that
is based on the philosophy of other enlightenment thinkers. Voltaire does not like the idea and mocks
the is\dea throughout his novel to create a statement.Voltaire characters follow this theme and their
optimism is ruined as the horror and tragedy show a greater reality.
In Candide, the protagonist remains optimistic for most of the novel, but after all his travels his
views transformed. Candide is one of the few optimistic people in the story when he was
surrounded by mostly pessimism. The utopian land of El Dorado teaches Candide that the world is
not a perfect place. When he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Voltaire uses critical attitude with wit and humor in the philosophy presented in the novel. The
satirical references to the best of all possible worlds involves the conflicting of what God had
planned for them for a greater good and the realities of the natural catastrophes. Voltaire does not
accept that, a perfect God (or any God) has to exist, (Shmoop.com) he mocks the idea that the
world must be completely good through Candide and his journey. He makes Candide to always be
going through a tragedy that there was no happy ending till the end where they cultivate their garden

Shortcomings And Weaknesses Of The Mazars Report
What are the shortcomings/weaknesses that you are seeing in integrated reporting in general
(including the Mazars Report)?
From the Mazars Report, there is some shortcoming of integrated reporting (IR) but these
shortcoming are potential to be improved to be a better one as IR is a process of continuation and
improvement of current reporting approaches. Following are the shortcomings of IR from the
Mazars Report:
Risk and opportunities can be identified and explained, however, it is lack of details in analysis and
mitigation measures.
In the event that vital goals are frequently all around portrayed in various time scales, the connection

The integrated performance indicators is weak in term of publication.
Complexity and lack of clarity has pointed out by Welch (2013), Associated of Chartered Certified
