Unit 7: Water pollution

There are several types of pollution. However, water pollution is the most serious in our area. Water pollution
is the contamination of lakes, rivers, oceans, or groundwater, usually by human activities. It is caused by several
factors.
Firstly, families dump sewage into the river. In the past, it was a very beautiful river, but now the water is
almost black. Secondly, there are some new factories in our area, and they are dumping chemical waste into the
lake and river. Thirdly, pesticides are another source of pollution. Farmers in our area usually use these to kill
insects.
Water pollution badly affects our area. We don’t have enough fresh water to water plants and crops.
People can’t raise fish in the river and the lake because the water there is so polluted. In addition, water
pollution causes the death of aquatic animals and plants.
People in our area are all aware of this problem, and we are thinking of some ways to solve it.
Unit 8:
*Talking about an English speaking country.
I’d like to talk to you about an English speaking country, Australia.
Australia is the sixth largest country in the world. Its official language is English. It has a population of over 25
million people. The people are very friendly and hospitable. It has a good education system. The climate is
warm and temperate. About 70 % of population takes part in sports and outdoor activities regularly. The largest
city is Sydney with its famous Harbour Bridge and Opera House. There are unique animals such as kangaroo,
koala and platypus. Australia is a rich country. Gold, silver, iron, copper, coal and diamonds are found
there, too. I love Australia very much and I wish I would visit it one day.

Writing:
Write about a natural disaster you have read about.
Quang Nam province was badly affected when a typhoon, Chanchu, hit the area on May 23rd , 2006. The
typhoon was known as the most disastrous in Viet Nam. It moved from Philippines to Viet Nam at great speed,
about 175 kilometers per hour.
Although there was the warning of the typhoon’s danger, it still caused great loss of life and damage to
property. About 160 people died. Many fishing vessels were damaged. A lot of houses and public buildings
were destroyed or flooded, and thousands of people were left homeless.
Rescue operations started and many people trapped in collapsed or damaged buildings have been freed.
Workers cleared up the debris left behind the severe storm. The government sent rescue to Quang Nam
immediately, as well as food and medical supplies. People left homeless were taken to safe areas, where
temporary accommodation will be built to house them.

People say that robots will only bring benefits. Do you agree or disagree?
I disagree with the idea that robots will only bring benefits to peope in the future. Robots will also have some
negative effects.
Firstly, they will be very expensive and we will spend too much money buying and fixing them.
Secondly, robots in factories will be able to do everything the workers do, so robots will make them jobless.
Thirdly, robots will do all the housework for us, so we will become lazy and inactive.
In short, robots will do many things for us, but they may not improve the quality of our lives.
QUESTION 4
What do you think people will use to communicate in the future?
You should mention:
- what it is.
- how it works.
- how it can help people.
In the future, we’ll use telepathy and holography to communicate with other people.
- Telepathy uses a tiny device placed into our head. Information will be sent and received directly to and from
our brains. We’ll be communicating just by thought over the network.
- Holography, a video – conference technology with three – dimensional images, will help us interact in real
time in completely different places. I am very happy with these ways of future communication because they are
more convenient than the ways of present communication. For examples:
Firstly, at present we use face – to - face meeting to work on a group project. But In the future, we will use
holography.
Secondly, at present we use face – to – face meeting to ask our teacher something that we didn’t understand
in the lesson. But in the future, we will use telepathy.
Thirdly, at present we use letters and emails to keep in touch with a friend who lives far away. But in the
future, we will use holography.
Unit 11:
*Speaking: Talking about the roles of science and technology.
Thanks to the science and technology, people have more convenient and comfortable lives.
-More and more robots will be invented and used in the future. One of its advantages is that robots will be able
to do dirty or dangerous jobs that humans don’t want to do.
In spite of advantages robots have, they also bring about several problems that we should be aware of.
Firstly, Robots will do all the housework for us, so we will become lazy and inactive.
Secondly, Robots will do everything the workers do, so they will make them jobless.
-The smart phone is very convenient, quick and entertaining. It helps people surf the internet, send and receive
e-mails, chat with friends, and relax after a hard working day but mobile phone radiation is believed to be
harmful to human health. Some recent studies have found an association between smart phone use and certain
kind of brain disease. It also makes people discourage face – to - face communication.

6.Write a paragraph of about 100 words on the following topic.Do you agree or disagree with the
following idea? The invention of computer games causes a lot f problems for children.
I agree with the idea that “The invention of computer games causes a lot of problems for children”.
Computer games are a part of today’s modern world, but they are very harmful to children.
Firstly, If students spend a lot of time playing computer games, they won’t have time for their friends and
family members.
Secondly, Playing computer games too much will have harmful effects on both our minds and bodies . It
will make students dizzy and violent and cause health problems such as eye – tiredness and obesity. Some
students will become addicted to computer games and neglect their study. They are in a world that doesn’t exist.
Thirdly, violent games will make children aggressive. Playing computer games that have a lot of shooting
and killing will increase children’s anger.
In short, I think it is better to prohibit children from playing computer games and we should encourage them
to find other interesting safe entertainment for themselves.

Air pollution
There are several types of pollution. However, air pollution is the most serious in our area. Air pollution is
the contamination of the air which is increasing day by day. It occurs when the air contains gases, dust, or
fumes in harmful amounts.
It is caused by several factors. Firstly, nowadays, more people result in more cars and motorbikes, so the
poisonous fumes from these vehicles are serious air pollution.
Secondly, the big factories have replaced the paddy fields. Therefore, the air is contaminated by smoke from
these factories.
Thirdly, smoke from rubbish burning is also another source of the air pollution.
Air pollution badly affects our area. Firstly, it is a cause of ill- health in human beings. It causes lung diseases.
Secondly, if the gases from the car exhaust continue to increase, the earth’s climate may become warmer. A
lot of the ice near the Poles may melt and may cause serious floods.
In conclusion, People in our area are all aware of this problem, and we are thinking of some ways to solve it.
