Subject: MAT201Fundamentals of Statistics
Lab-11

Part-1: For data set-A


1. Prepare two columns for bounds of the classes as follows: a column with label lower
containing values {1,11,21,31,41,51,61,71,81,91} and another column with label upper
containing values {10,20,30,40,50,60,70,80,90,100}.
2. Calculate cumulative frequencies in next column for the upper bounds in Q1 from the raw
data set of lab-11.
[Hint: use =FREQUENCY(raw_data_range, upper_bound_cell_location)]
3. Find frequencies for each of the 10 classes in next column. [Hint: Keep first frequency as
of cf then from next frequency onwards subtract corresponding cf from just previous cf]
4. Find the midpoint of each class in next column and label it as x. [Hint: =(lower+upper)/2]
5. In next two columns calculate 𝑓 × 𝑥 and 𝑓 × 𝑥 2 .
6. Convert the lower and upper bounds of the classes prepared in Q1 in continuous bounds
in next two columns. [Hint: lower-0.5 and upper+0.5]
7. Prepare a column containing labels: N/2, median class and 𝑙, ℎ, 𝑓, 𝑐 related to median
class, and modal class and 𝑙, 𝑓1 , 𝑓𝑚 , 𝑓2 related to modal class.
8. Enter the values of all the quantities mentioned in Q8 on the right hand side of the
labelled cells (from Q8) correspondingly.
Part-2:
1. With the help of appropriate columns prepared in Que. (3 and 5) from part-1, find mean
of this grouped frequency data by entering mathematical formula in excel cell beside cell
with label ‘mean’. (do not use =AVERAGE)
2. Using the appropriate cells from Q8 (part-1), find the median of this grouped frequency
data by entering mathematical formula in excel. (do not use =MEDIAN)
3. Using appropriate cells from Q8 (part-1), find the mode by entering mathematical formula
in excel. (do not use =MODE)
4. With help of appropriate columns prepared in Que. (3 and 5) from part-1, find variance
of this grouped frequency data of this grouped frequency data by entering mathematical
formula in excel cell beside cell with label ‘mean’. (do not use =VAR.P)
5. Find the standard deviation using variance value obtained in Q4 (part-2). (do not use
=STDEV.P)
6. Find the coefficient of variation using appropriate cells.
Part-3 and 4: Repeat part-1 and 2 for second data set-B
Part-5: Compare CV for both data set and find conclusion in excel using =IF for both reliability
and variability of data sets
FOR FILE:
1. Write the complete table prepared from part-1 and 3 along with the excel formula used
in each of them.
2. Write all the outputs obtained in part-2 and 4 along with the excel formula used in each
of them.
3. Write the two conclusions obtained in part-5 along with all excel formula used.
