Technological Advancements of World War !
Advancements in technology and science contributed to one the most gory and bloodiest war in
the annals of human existence. These new technological advancements revolutionized how people
regarded war. War was no longer where the opposite forces fought in a coordinated battle. War
evolved into game of cunning strategy where the side with the bigger, powerful, and smarter toys
played better. This led to a fierce competition where each side tried to create the smarter machines
and better weapons, leading to deadly mass killing weapons in the process. One weapon or machine
was created and an even better one was made. New developments such as machine guns, poison gas,
tanks, and new strategy to thwart trench warfareaffected how WWI was... Show more content on

Although the casualty of poison gas reached over a million, it uses start diminishing once the
crucial element of surprise had been lost... (Duffy). Also gas masks and antidotes rendered these
gases useless later on in the war. If poison gas was the most feared, the barbed wire and the
machine gun was the most deadly. Barbed wire, a simple yet destructive weapon was made in
DeKalb, Illinois by a Joseph Glidden who originally planned to keep control of his flocks. A
seemingly harmless item used for fencing in America, it was the devil s tool on the battlefield.
Miles of barbed wire were strung along the trenches. Then as the unsuspecting soldiers charged
across the shell cratered hell of No Man s Land, they would become tangled in the wire, easy
pickings for the machine gunners in the opposing trench (Shmoop Editorial). Trying to eliminate the
wires, opposing forces used enormous amounts of artillery fire to cut the wires, an attempt at which
they failed miserably at. Even though there were several different designs of machine guns, Hiram
Maxim was the man that originally invented the machine gun. Before the machine gun were
invented, there was the hand cranked Gatling gun that which was capable of mass quick firing.
However, these guns easily jammed due to overheating and constantly needed reloading, exposing
the person reloading to danger. These new and improved designs by Hiram
My first drum Essay
My First Drum

As a kid I always wanted to play the drums. When I was three years old my godmother gave me
my first drum. It was a blue plastic remo drum that I love and I still have. It has white stripes that
go vertically and it has two black remo pin strip drum heads. Drumheads are the surface, which you
strike with a drumstick to produce a sound. The drum came with a pair of cheap plastic remo brand
drumsticks. That I hardly use became if I do, I would probably break the drumsticks.
One day when I was in sixth grade I came home on my birthday, and when I opened the door I saw a
medium size brown box that said pearl on the side. As I swathe box that said pearl I jus started ...

I remember kids would listen to me play even when I was playing quarter notes, which was lesson
one. The funny part was that they would clap after I would finish playing. I felt like if I was giving a
concert, and I still remember the interest on the kid s faces when I would be playing. My favorite
audience was the kinder garden students because I would play anything and they would like it.
I remember I would have to study a lot because if my grade went down I would get grounded and
my parents knew what to ground me with. My weak spot my silver baby, my snare drum. One
time I was grounded for a week for not going to church. My parents would tease me with the drum
they would leave it in my room. If I would touch the drum I would get another week. So I would be
there playing on a pillow, but thanks to that pillow my hands got faster because I wouldn t bounce, I
would use my wrist.
I believe the greatest thing to ever happen to me was my snare drum, and I want to thank my
teacher, Mr. Cantu for teaching me the correct techniques and teaching me how to practice. One
thing that helps me in school was practicing because thanks to that I learned how to manage my time
in studying. As a student in college I go back and I think about all the crazy times I had with my
drum, and I enjoy thinking about them. But thanks to my parents who
What Is The Primary Purpose Of Dangerous Liaisons
Dangerous Liaisons : Pierre Choderlos de Laclos
Dangerous Liaisons is an epistolary novel written in 1982 by Choderlos de Laclos. It is part of the
eighteenth century society, where former libertine lovers, the Marquise de Merteuil and the Vicomte
de Valmont, engage in a story of power, seduction, manipulation, and appearance. Through this
intrigue, the two sexes throw themselves into a battle without any mercy for their victims, the young
prudish Cécile de Volanges and the chaste and pious The President de Tourvel. The novelconsists of
175 letters reflecting all the thoughts and intimate desires. The narrative focuses on the perverse duel
of these two aristocrats manipulators. The primary purpose of Choderlos de Laclos, in writing
Dangerous Liaisons, was to describe the environment that allowed the appearance of libertinage. I
first questioned myself on what representation of the libertinism proposes Dangerous Liaisons. Is it a
condemnation of this current of thought and way of life or, on the contrary, a sublimation?
It is, therefore, necessary to ask, first of all, why Laclos has created a somewhat tragic and
paradoxical plot around the condition of libertines, passing from greatness to misery. Then ... Show

The author was very influenced by the ideals of the Enlightenment, as well as writers such as Jean
Jacques Rousseau or Sade, among others. The type of the novel in the eighteenth century was
characterized by five major aspects: the romantic illusion, moral intention, realism, psychological
analysis and a formal work on the genre and structure of fiction. The novel of Laclos got these
five traits which made Dangerous Liaison a success. This is the reason why I found this novel very
interesting for my Research Paper. Moreover, this literary work is classified as one of the most
famous epistolary novels of French
Carburetor Essay
FUEL INJECTION
A fuel injector is a device or technology that introduces the fuel into the combustion unit of an
internal combustion engine. It is an alternative method to carburetor. Fuel is injected into the
cylinder where combustion happen. In order to burn , fuel must be vaporized to be and make sure
the air at correct ratio . This job can be performed by either a carburetor or a fuel injection system.
If there is not enough fuel mixed with the air, the engine runs lean and either will not run or damages
the engine.

How fuel injector is better than carburetor

In new cars, fuel injection is becoming universal because it provides a better fuel efficiency and
much lower emissions
Carburetor is used in older cars , but it is still used in machines like lawnmovers and chainsaw

First take a look at carburetor

The carburetor has been the device that supplied fuel to the engine . It uses in older cars and simple
machines likelawnmover and chainsaw . But carburetor got complicated to handle different tasks .

The carburetor has 5 different circuit

Main circuit Provides just enough fuel for fuel efficient cruising
Idle circuit Pr0vides just enough fuel t0 keep the engine idling
Accelerator pump Provides an extra burst of fuel when the accelerator pedal is first depressed,
reducing hesitation before the engine speeds up
Power enrichment circuit Provides extra fuel when
Joy Luck Club Analysis
I threw away my foolish innocence to protect myself. And then I taught my daughter to shed her
innocence so she would not be hurt as well. (Tan 213). The Joy Luck club is a book containing
sixteen stories told by four mother daughter pairs, as well as four anecdotes about no particular
character. The mothers are all Chinese Immigrants. Each mothers story details their experiences in
China, while the daughters talk about life in America. The exception to this is with the Woo family,
where the mother, Suyuan, has passed away, and the daughter, June, tells her stories for her. In The
Joy Luck Club, Amy Tan uses the stories of the mothers to illustrate the similarities and differences
in the ways the mothers and daughters think about... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What the role of a women should be was another point of conflict between the mothers and
daughters. In the first anecdote on page 17, Tan tells the story of a Chinese women coming to
America who dreams that over there nobody will say her [daughter s] worth is measured by the
loudness of her husband s belch. This quote shows that the traditional view of women in China is
that they should serve their husbands and families, and that they don t deserve freedom. Ying
Ying St. Clair found herself conforming to this stereotype, saying that [she] was pretty for [her
husband]. (Tan 247). Not only did Ying Ying have to listen to her husband, she began to embrace
it and only serve her husband, without any regard for herself. When he left her to marry a
younger women, she realized that she had been wasting away her life. She waited four years, until
she was able to run away to America, where she gained her freedom. However, her daughter, Lena,
was born with these rights that she had worked hard to gain. Lena talks about her husband, saying,
really, we re equals, except that Harold makes about seven times more than what I make. Harold is
also her boss, despite the fact that they originally started their company together. Ying Ying realizes
that Lena is becoming submissive to her husband, much the way she did. Ying Ying wants to cut
[Lena s} tiger spirit loose (Tan 252), but Lena refuses to listen, not realizing that her
Utilitarianism Is Quite An Idealistic And Western Form
Utilitarianism is quite an idealistic and western form of thought. Many schools of thought such as
socialism, democracy, and others aspire to contain aspects of it; A society is which the government
is for the greatest number of people. However, sustaining a society of this nature is quite difficult as
attempts in the past either failed or are half baked representations. In an essay, Utilitarianism, written
by John Stuart Mill, he explains his own expansion and edit of Jeremy Benthams ideas of
Utilitarianism. His differs slightly from Bentham as it adds a complex level of higher pleasures as
well as applies to animals. Mill s additions of higher pleasures and quantity v. quality with
utilitarianism while differing based on the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This was utilitarianism at work in a rather unethical way; History shows us time and time again
that the needs of the many should not outweigh the needs of the few. This dark time in America s
history is a prime example of Mill s higher pleasures . Higher pleasures are pleasures in which the
reward is well worth the pain; In the case mentioned above, in America at the time, the pleasures
of slavery, money, wealth, and goods, were worth the pain, suffering of African slaves.
Procrastination, binge drinking, and exercise are all higher pleasures are worth it for people.
These pleasures are more worth other pleasures such as sleep or just watching Netfilx. A number
games begins where everything is given a value and you must decide what qualifies as a higher
pleasure. As mentioned above, it can be applied to individuals as well as entire populations and
nations.
In regards to the Greatest Happiness Theory, there is a slight disconnect between Mill and
Utilitarianism. The theory s guidelines are to be exempt from pain, to be rich in employment, to
have both quality and quantity, and to be applied to all sentient beings (Mullan, CAL 105). As
iterated before, you cannot have pleasure without some pain whether it be a co requisite or a
consequence. The natural world does not work like that; Newton s third law from physics explains
that with every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. Utilitarianism recognizes this and
Analysis Of Disgrace By J. M. Coetzee
The three literary qualities, namely the test of time, its availability and impact on life as well as
the ability to gain understanding of the era in which the book is written, will be identified in the
three preselected works in order to determine whether these can be considered as literature. Firstly,
the novel Disgrace is evaluated according to the three literary qualities. The novel Disgrace by
J.M. Coetzee is written in 1999. This means that the most important quality, the test of time, is not
yet valid for Disgrace . The novel is written 16 years ago and does not comply to Dr Johnson s
thought that a book has passed the test of time when the book is still read after a hundred years.

Even though, the book is written recently, the book has made an impact on the social, cultural and
academic factors in South Africa. The book deals with the issues of the post apartheid era in South
Africa which started, after the change of the government in 1994. These issues are often related to
the social, cultural and academic factors which people have experienced after the apartheid era has
ended. Moreover, the context in which the novel is written, as ... Show more content on

Some of the characteristics of post apartheid literature are evident in the novel, namely rape,
assault, violence and theft. These themes are manifested in Lucy s life as well as in David Lurie s
life when he visits Lucy at the farm. Each one of the themes will be discussed and how it is

Courage In The Movie The Sandlot

If your favorite ball goes over a fence, would you try to get it back from a fearsome beast? The
movie The Sandlot displays courage in many different ways. The Sandlot is about a gang of kids
who love to play baseball. These kids are afraid of the Beast , which is behind the fence of the

Scotty s mom wanted Scotty to make new friends in the new neighborhood they moved in. His

The 5th Amendment And The Fifth Amendment
A man in court randomly yells out the phrase I plead the fifth, and now he doesn t have to talk
anymore! When the man said I plead the fifth he refers back to the fifth amendment. The fifth
amendment says this, No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous
crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a Grand Jury, except in cases arising in the land
or naval forces, or in the Militia, when in actual service in time of War or public danger; nor shall
any person be subject for the same offence to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be
compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or
property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just
compensation. Well first of all who introduce the famous 5th amendment. Well according to the Kids
Laws they said that, The Fifth Amendment was introduced into the Constitution by James Madison.
(kids.laws.com). So really James Madison was the one who introduced the whole concept of having
that as the 5th amendment and well the White House does describe him as ... a small, wizened man,
appeared old and worn (whitehouse.gov) he was indeed a very smart man. Well now over the course
of the amendments time there has been some controversy about the amendment, according to
Constitution Daily, they made a whole story having to do with asking the question, Do government

Andrew Jackson

Throughout the years there have been many presidents, but Andrew Jackson was different. He had
many different policies, and his personality set him apart from a lot of other presidents. Andrew
Jackson was the seventh president but some would consider him to be the first because he seemed
so different from others. Andrew Jackson did not have the easiest childhood while growing up, his
father had died and his mother had to raise him and his siblings. Through Andrew Jackson s entire
presidency, he endured trials in a different way from the other presidents. Unlike other presidents,
Andrew Jackson was a war hero. He loved ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When Andrew Jackson was fourteen years old his grandfather died and he inherited $300 dollars
from him. He went to Charlestown, South Carolina, which at that time was the biggest city. He
would live there until he ran out of money. Jackson took part in many wars; the first war he
fought in was the war of Hanging rock which was against the British. He would later go on to
battle in small skirmishes against British symthisizers and tories. Andrew was not fighting those
wars alone, he had his country on his side but he also had is older brothers to look up to. He
fought with them until his oldest brother was killed in action when Jackson was just 13. Later on
him and his brother were both captured and taken as prisoners. They were able to get out of jail
and go free, but that did not last to long. Andrew s brother died shortly after from small pox, both
him and his brother were infected while they were in prison. This would not be the last battle
Andrew would fight in though, even though not to long after his mother was killed while she was
helping in the war, he would go onto be one of the greatest war hero s of all time. It wasn t till the
war of 1812 that Jackson would become a world wide known hero. This war was very significant
because of Andrew Jacksons quick and very smart thinking. The war of 1812 was a war between

Essay on correctional facilities
The realities of correctional enterprise concur with justifications of punishments with some cases. All
criminals are not the same. There are criminals that need help but do not get help there for result in
criminal activity. Then there are the criminals that are flat out insane. The correctional stage can be
effective; it just depends on the sanity of the criminal.
We are pretty successful with achieving the purposes of the criminal law. Criminal law keeps
everyday Americans safe and gets many bad guys of the streets as possible but the three strikes law
is drastic. It definitely seems like an affective deterrent but the sentencing is unbelievable especially,
if it s not a serious crime. The prison ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Often times many inmates go through the motions of rehabilitation, but do not truly put forth the
maximum effort that is needed to better themselves and become a part of society. While some may
view this as a lack of effort, the truth may be that the commitment shown by those chosen to walk
them through this stage of their recovery is insufficient. The counselors of these inmates need to
make a point of showing them that they truly do care, and want to see them succeed.
The principle of least eligibility says that, the prison inmates should have no more than what the
poorest citizen has. (Jenne, lecture) This principle doesn t benefit the inmates and in no way is it
going to better them as an individual. If the purpose of corrections is supposed to, correct the
problem, it should be done accordingly depending on the crime they have committed. Non violent
offenders should not be treated as severely as serious offenders such as murderers and rapists. This
does not mean they should be treated like they ve done nothing wrong, but there is clearly a
difference in the severity of certain crimes.
Imprisonment, this word strikes fear in most people, however the thought of being imprisoned isn t
enough to actually stop people from breaking the law. It is the taking away of all your freedoms,
and your right to choose what you want to do when you want to do it. Some may believe that
