Job Description
Job Title: Specialist, Business Intelligence
Job Level: Level 2
Department: Strategy & Brand
Description of Role: The Specialist, Business Intelligence (BI) will be a catalyst to accelerate our
data systems, tools, and metrics.

As BLLT invests in a strong business intelligence program to further


strengthen its data-driven decision-making, the Specialist will be laser
focused on the following three areas:
• Data Cleaning and Preparation: expand the digital integration of our
data sources, clean and maintain our data warehouse tools, and
prepare merged data for analysis.
• Data Exploration and Analysis: engage statistical techniques to explore
and analyze data, identify patterns, relationships, and trends.
• Data Visualization and Reporting: develop visual representations of
the data to support understanding and grow use, helping teams,
members and partners make informed decisions.

The Specialist, BI has a keen eye for detail, ensuring the integrity and precision
of our data and data systems. They have a curious mindset and a problem-
solving nature, passionate about uncovering insights and solutions through
data. Their role contributes to greater understanding across the business of
audience behaviours and destination results, leading BLLT, members and
partners to deliver enhanced strategies, programs, and activations.

Internal Relationships: The Specialist, Business Intelligence will have highly collaborative
relationships with the Strategy & Brand team, the Technology team, as well as
other areas of the business on a project basis:
• Finance & Operations team
• Marketing team
• Destination Development team
• Leadership team

Reports to: Analyst, Business Intelligence


Supervisory None
Responsibilities:
External Relationships: The Specialist, Business Intelligence will occasionally interact with external
partners , such as data consulting partners.
Budgetary n/a
Responsibilities:
Key Accountabilities: Data Cleaning and Preparation
• Integrate outstanding data sources into the centralized data
warehouse.
• Execute monthly data ingestion procedures.
• Manage naming conventions and taxonomies for data files, storage
and capture.
• Ensure upkeep of databases, data systems and centralized data
warehouse.
• Assist in development of clean, simplified processes.
• Maintain up-to-date documentation of data design, processes, and
user workflows/best practices.

Data Exploration and Analysis


• Ensure that data is accurate, consistent, and reliable throughout its
lifecycle, critical for making valid and trustworthy decisions.
• Cleanse data and scrutinize automated outputs and reports to identify
and rectify errors.
• Detect, examine, and decode trends or patterns within intricate
datasets, working with BLLT team to identify key findings.

Data Visualization and Reporting


• Work collaboratively across departments and teams to understand
their operations and reporting requirements.
• Develop data dashboards, charts, and visual aids to support decision-
making across departments and teams.
• Support Analyst, BI with monthly reporting requirements to
communicate the insights/findings to team, members and partners.
• Aid in the development of survey processes, question methodology,
capture and reporting dashboards.
• Manage other data or business intelligence-related projects or
requests as assigned.

Qualifications: • Minimum two years experience in data entry, analytics, business


intelligence or related field.
• Post-secondary degree or diploma in Business, Economics, Statistics,
Science or related degree.
• A solid foundation in statistics and practical experience with statistical
software.
• Excellent attention to detail, precision, and thoroughness.
• Strong analytical skills to compile, structure, examine, and present
substantial data sets.
• A curious mindset, a drive to problem-solve and deliver work of the
highest quality.
• Ability to adapt to changing environments, timelines, and priorities.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Proficient in MS Office, especially Microsoft Excel.
• Experience with Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager, Google Big
Query is considered an asset.
• Experience with SQL scripting or other scripting is considered an asset.
• Willingness to learn.
