1. IIT Delhi’s first international campus was inaugurated in Abu Dhabi


by Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi. This new
campus aims to enhance the UAE’s status as a global education and innovation
hub. It is the second international IIT campus, following IIT Madras’s in
Zanzibar. The inaugural cohort includes 52 students pursuing undergraduate
degrees in Computer Science and Energy Engineering.
2. Amit Shah: Chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee on Official
Language
Home Minister Amit Shah was unanimously re-elected as Chairperson of the
Parliamentary Committee on Official Language. The government aims for all
government systems to operate in Indian languages by 2047. The Department of
Official Language is developing software to automatically translate all
languages of the Eighth Schedule.
3. Maharshtra: Tribal University
Maharashtra Governor C. P. Radhakrishnan announced the establishment of a
tribal university in Nashik to support the development and future of tribal
students. The university will offer quality education from Kindergarten to Post-
graduation levels. 80% of the seats will be reserved for tribal students.The aim
is to provide modern education to tribals to enhance their competitiveness and
employability. The university will feature advanced facilities, particularly in
engineering, and contribute to the social development of the region.
4. India Jumps to 39th Global Innovation Index 2024
India has moved up to 39th place out of 133 countries in the Global Innovation
Index (GII) 2024. This shows a big improvement in how India supports
innovation. Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal announced
this news. According to the GII 2024, the top five innovative countries are
Switzerland, Sweden, the US, Singapore, and the UK. China, Turkey, India,
Vietnam, and the Philippines are noted as the fastest-growing countries in
innovation over the past ten years.

5. Odisha unveils India’s first silicon carbide facility


Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi recently led the groundbreaking ceremony for
India’s first silicon carbide manufacturing facility. This major project, developed by RIR
Power Electronics Limited, is being set up at EMC Park in Info Valley, Bhubaneswar, with a
significant investment of Rs 620 crore.
6. Hayao Miyazaki: Won 2024 Ramon Magsasay Award
Hayao Miyazaki, the acclaimed film director and co-founder of Studio Ghibli, has been
awarded the prestigious Ramon Magsaysay Award for 2024. This award is frequently referred
to as Asia’s Nobel Prize, highlighting Miyazaki’s significant contributions to cinema and
culture.
7. TV Somanathan: The new Cabinet Secretary of India
TV Somanathan has recently become the Cabinet Secretary of India. This change happened
after Rajiv Gauba retired from the position, having served for five years.
8. Vithya Ramraj : Breaks 39 years old 400m hurdles meet record
At the 63rd National Open Athletics Championships, held at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium in
Bengaluru, Vithya Ramraj made history by breaking a 39-year-old record in the women’s
400m hurdles. She completed the race in 56.23 seconds, surpassing the previous record of
56.80 seconds, which was set by the legendary Indian athlete P.T. Usha in 1985.

1. PM Modi visited solar panels installed under the PM Muft Bijli Solar Yojana in
Gujarat. The PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Solar Yojana encourages rooftop solar adoption by
offering financial subsidies and easier installation. Households can get up to 300 units of free
electricity each month. Gujarat leads in rooftop solar capacity with 4,195 MW, followed by
Maharashtra with 2,487 MW, and Rajasthan with 1,269 MW. India’s total installed rooftop
solar power capacity is 13,889 MW
2. The Dasra Philanthropy Forum-2024
The Dasra Philanthropy Forum-2024 highlighted the adoption of climate-aligned
agricultural practices by tribal communities in southern Rajasthan. Indigenous
knowledge and community governance were emphasized, showcasing how these practices
prioritize local food production over market-driven economies. The forum featured
discussions on strategies for climate-resilient farming systems, which help communities adapt
to regional climate changes. Jayesh Joshi from Vaagdhara underscored the importance of
tribal initiatives in enhancing sustainability and resilience, while a collection of stories titled
“Echoes of Swaraj” was released to showcase transformative practices of these communities.
3. Mukhyamantri Yuva Udyami Vikas Abhiyan
The Uttar Pradesh government launched the Mukhyamantri Yuva Udyami Vikas Abhiyan to
empower youth and promote entrepreneurship in Uttar Pradesh. The scheme aims to set up 10
lakh micro units over the next 10 years. Each year, 1 lakh educated and trained youth will
receive financial assistance. Applicants must have at least passed class eight, with preference
for those who completed class 12. The scheme supports projects up to ₹5 lakh in micro
enterprises and service sectors.
4. The Conference on Maritime Decarbonization
The Conference on Maritime Decarbonization in India, co-hosted by the Ministry of Ports and
the Asian Development Bank, concluded in New Delhi. It emphasized the importance of green
shipping and sustainable port operations. It aimed to align India’s maritime sector with global
climate goals, discussing initiatives like the Harit Sagar Green Port Guidelines and the goal of
achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2070. This reflects India’s commitment to transforming
its maritime industry for a sustainable future.
5. DRDO completed development trials of the 4th Generation Very Short Range Air
Defence System (VSHORAD) with three successful tests at Pokhran, Rajasthan.
VSHORAD is a Man Portable Air Defence System (MANPAD) designed to neutralize low-
altitude aerial threats at short ranges. It was developed by DRDO’s Research Centre Imarat,
Hyderabad, with industry partners. The missile features advanced technologies like a
miniaturised Reaction Control System (RCS) and integrated avionics, and is propelled by a
dual-thrust solid motor.
6. The Nobel Prize in Physiology and Medicine 2024
The Nobel Prize in Physiology and Medicine 2024 has been awarded to scientists Victor
Ambros and Gary Ruvkun. They were recognized for their discovery of microRNA and its
role in post-transcriptional gene regulation. MicroRNA is crucial for regulating gene activity.
The Nobel Assembly stated that their discovery is vital for understanding how organisms
develop and function.
7. Digital Infrastructure Growth Initiative for India Framework (DiGi Framework)
The U.S., Japan, and South Korea signed the DiGi Framework to support digital
infrastructure growth in India. The initiative aims to collaborate with Indian private
companies in sectors like 5G, Open RAN, submarine cables, optical fiber networks, data
centers, smart cities, e-commerce, AI, and quantum tech. India’s Digital Public Infrastructure
(DPI) can boost economic growth by 33% and accelerate emission reductions by up to 10
years.
8. Bibhab Kumar Talukdar : Harry Messel Award
Assam’s Bibhab Kumar Talukdar received the prestigious Harry Messel Award from the
IUCN Species Survival Commission (SSC). The award was presented on October 25 at the
5th IUCN SSC leaders’ meeting in Abu Dhabi, with over 300 conservation experts attending.
He was recognized for his on-ground and leadership contributions to species
conservation.Founder of Aaranyak, a key conservation organization in Northeast India,
Talukdar has published over 70 scientific papers and led more than 60 projects over 25 years.
NOVEMBER 2024
1. Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions , Dr. Jitendra Singh
launched the Digital Life Certificate campaign 3.0 in New Delhi. The campaign, by the
Department of Pension and Pensioners’ Welfare, spans 800 cities and districts . Its goal is to
promote digital life certificates and empower pensioners through face authentication
technology. Pensioners must submit life certificates annually to continue receiving pensions.
2. 5G “millimeter wave transceiver”
Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT) and Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)
Roorkee signed an agreement under the Telecom Technology Development Fund (TTDF) to
develop a 5G “millimeter wave transceiver” for rural connectivity. Millimeter waves (30-300
GHz frequency) allow high-speed wireless communication with low latency and less
interference. The project promotes local manufacturing, encouraging small and medium
industries, creating job opportunities for engineering graduates.It aims to generate Intellectual
Property Rights (IPRs) and build a skilled workforce for 5G/6G technology.

3. Chris Evans: first anti-slavery commissioner


Australia appointed its first anti-slavery commissioner, Chris Evans, a former senator and
human rights official. Attorney-General Mark Dreyfus announced Evans’s five-year term
starting in December. The role aims to strengthen efforts across government, business, and
society to combat modern slavery. Modern slavery robs victims of dignity, rights, and
freedoms, as stated by Dreyfus. A recent report from New South Wales’ anti-slavery
commissioner estimated 16,400 people in modern slavery within the state.
4. Eastern Maritime Corridor (EMC)
The Chennai-Vladivostok Eastern Maritime Corridor (EMC) is now operational, transporting
oil, food, and machinery. The EMC links Russia’s east coast with South India, reducing cargo
transit time by up to 16 days and distance by 40%. The current Mumbai-St. Petersburg route
spans 8,675 nautical miles, taking about 40 days. The Chennai-Vladivostok route is only
5,647 nautical miles, saving 5,608 km and reducing logistical costs. The EMC passes through
key seas and straits, including the Sea of Japan and Malacca Straits, with port options in
major cities like Shanghai, Singapore, and Colombo.
5. Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty
FAO Director-General QU Dongyu urged all FAO Members and partners to join the newly
launched Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty. The initiative was officially launched
by Brazil at the G20 Leader’s Summit. It aims to accelerate progress toward eradicating
poverty and hunger by 2030, in line with Sustainable Development Goals 1 and 2. The
alliance also focuses on reducing inequalities as part of SDG 10. It is an ambitious platform,
created under Brazil’s G20 presidency, to drive urgent action towards these global goals.
6. Yamandú Orsi: won Uruguay’s Presidential election
Yamandú Orsi, a left-wing politician and former mayor, won Uruguay’s presidential election,
marking a return of the centre-left government after five years of conservative leadership.
Supported by former president José Mujica, Orsi emphasizes environmental policies, social
inclusion, and a balanced approach to economic growth.
7. Global Peatland Hotspot Atlas, 2024
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) published the Global Peatland Hotspot
Atlas, 2024, building on the 2022 Global Peatlands Assessment and Global Peatland Map 2.0.
The UNEP Global Peatlands Initiative was formed at the 2016 UNFCCC COP in Marrakech,
Morocco. Peatlands are wetland ecosystems where waterlogged conditions prevent plant
material from fully decomposing, leading to the accumulation of peat, which is dead and
partially decomposed plant matter. Peatlands play a crucial role in organic matter production,
with decomposition rates being slower than accumulation.
8. All India Conference of Director Generals/Inspectors Generals of Police 2024
Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the All India Conference of Director
Generals/Inspectors Generals of Police 2024 in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. The three-day
conference, from November 29 to December 1, focused on national security issues like
counter-terrorism, extremism, coastal security, new criminal laws, and narcotics. The
President’s Police Medal for distinguished service was awarded. The conference served as a
platform for police professionals to discuss crime control, law and order, and internal security
threats. It included yoga sessions, business sessions, and thematic dining tables for informal
discussions. This was the 59th conference, continuing a tradition started in 2014.

1. International Debt Report 2024
World Bank released the 2024 International Debt Report (IDR). It covers external debt for
low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). Total external debt of LMICs rose by 2.4% in
2023, reaching $8.8 trillion. Key factors driving this rise include high interest rates due to
tight monetary policies in high-income countries, inflation, depreciating currencies, and
global economic uncertainty. Countries like Bangladesh and India saw over 90% increases in
interest payments. The rising debt strains budgets, affecting critical sectors like health,
education, and environmental programs.
2. Vitul Kumar appointed as the Director General of the CRPF
The Ministry of Home Affairs has appointed Vitul Kumar as the acting Director General of
the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). This decision follows the retirement of Anish
Dayal Singh.
3. Koneru Humpy wins 2024 FIDE women’s world rapid chess championship
Koneru Humpy has recently claimed her second women’s title at the World Rapid and Blitz
Championship held in New York, marking a milestone in her chess career, showcasing her
exceptional talent and determination. Humpy scored an impressive 8.5 points over 11 rounds,
defeating Indonesia’s Irene Sukander in the final match.
4. Global Conference on Energy & AI in Paris
The International Energy Agency (IEA) hosted the ‘Global Conference on Energy & AI in
Paris. The IEA’s Global Conference on Energy & AI featured a roundtable and technical
forum on energy and AI. The IEA is an intergovernmental organization established in 1974 to
address oil supply disruptions. It works with governments and industries to promote secure
and sustainable energy. Its focus areas are energy security, economic development,
environmental awareness, and global engagement. The IEA has 31 member countries and 11
association countries, tracking global energy trends and fostering international energy
cooperation.
5. Farmer-friendly portal introduced by Telangana government
The Telangana government has introduced the Bhumata portal to replace the controversial
Dharani system, which faced numerous complaints from farmers. The National Informatics
Centre (NIC) has taken over the management of Bhumata to ensure a user-friendly
experience. This change follows a study that indicated the need for a complete revamp of the
previous system. The new legislation aims to restore local revenue administration and
provide a clear appeal process for farmers, addressing the issues that arose under Dharani.
6. 22nd Divya Kala Mela
The 22nd Divya Kala Mela was organized at India Gate, New Delhi. The 11-day event,
organized by the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, features 100
artisans, entrepreneurs, and artists from 20 states and union territories. It promotes the ‘Vocal
for Local’ movement with handicrafts, eco-friendly products, and cultural performances. The
event helps Divyangjan achieve economic independence and affirms their place in India’s
progress.
7. International Energy Agency (IEA) published the ‘Coal 2024: Analysis and
Forecast to 2027’ Report
The report forecasts global coal demand, supply, and trade trends until 2027. Coal demand is
shrinking in advanced economies but rising in emerging economies like India, China, and
Indonesia. India is projected to see the highest coal demand growth, driven by increased
power needs due to economic growth. Global coal production is expected to hit a record high
in 2024 and then stabilize through 2027. India is the largest contributor to global coal
production growth, with production exceeding 1 billion tonnes for the first time in 2023.
Indian coal production grew by 10% in 2023 and is expected to rise by 8% in 2024.
8. Turkey successfully tested the UAV-122
Turkey successfully tested the UAV-122 supersonic missile fired from the Bayraktar Akinci
drone. Bayraktar Akinci is a long-endurance unmanned combat aerial vehicle (UCAV)
developed by Turkish manufacturer Baykar. It supports fighter jets with air-to-ground and air-
to-air attack capabilities. Equipped with AI-powered avionics, dual satellite communication,
advanced radars, and collision avoidance systems, it enhances real-time situational
awareness. It carries laser-guided munitions, missiles, and long-range weapons and is the first
drone capable of launching air-launched cruise missiles.
JANUARY 2025
1. The Uttarakhand Forest Department Establishes Mahabharata Vatika
The Uttarakhand Forest Department has established two gardens in Haldwani,
showcasing plant species referenced in ancient Indian epics. These gardens, named Ramayana
Vatika and Mahabharata Vatika, aim to highlight the ecological wisdom embedded in these
texts.
2. New Ant Species Discovered in Western Ghats
A recent discovery in the Western Ghats has brought attention to the biodiversity of leaf litter
ecosystems. Scientists from Goa, Karnataka, and Dehradun identified a new ant species named
Tapinoma onaele in Kodagu district, Karnataka. This discovery marks the importance of leaf
litter, which is often overlooked. The name ‘Onaele’ translates to ‘dried leaves’ in Kannada,
signifying the crucial role of this habitat. Pronoy Baidya, the head of the research division at
AERO, emphasised the leaf litter’s biodiversity as a vital component of forest ecosystems.
3. Chhattisgarh’s Green GDP Initiative
Chhattisgarh has launched a pioneering initiative that integrates the ecological services of its
forests into the Green Gross Domestic Product (Green GDP). This innovative approach aims
to tell the relationship between the environmental contributions of forests and the
state’s economic growth. The initiative seeks to ensure sustainable economic development
while preserving the environment for future generations.
4. V Narayanan appointed as New ISRO Chairman
On January 7, 2025, the Government of India announced the appointment of V Narayanan as
the new Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and Secretary of the
Department of Space. He will officially take office on January 14, 2025, succeeding S
Somanath. Narayanan’s extensive experience in rocket propulsion and his leadership role at
ISRO come at a very important time for India’s space programme, which is advancing in
satellite technology and human space missions.
5. Goa Launches Bima Sakhi Yojana
The Bima Sakhi Yojana was recently launched in Goa, aiming to provide insurance access to
all citizens. This initiative follows the successful launch in Haryana and is part of a broader
vision by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The scheme focuses on empowering women,
particularly those aged 18 to 70, who have completed at least Class X education. It aims to
enhance financial literacy and insurance awareness among women while increasing life
insurance coverage at the grassroots level.
6. Indonesia joins BRICS as full member
Indonesia has officially become a full member of the BRICS group, as announced by
Brazil’s government. Indonesia’s foreign ministry expressed that this membership is vital for
strengthening partnerships with other developing nations. BRICS is an acronym representing
Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. The group was informally established in 2006
and formalised in 2009.The inaugural summit took place in Yekaterinburg, Russia.
7. The Parbati-Kalisindh-Chambal-Eastern Rajasthan Canal Project
The Parbati-Kalisindh-Chambal-Eastern Rajasthan Canal Project (PKC-ERCP) is initiative
aimed at enhancing irrigation in Rajasthan. This project will impact 23 districts and is crucial
for providing water for irrigation, drinking, and industrial use. However, it poses
environmental challenges, particularly regarding the Ranthambhore tiger reserve.
8. Odisha Launches Initiatives to expand milk procurement capacity
The dairy sector in Odisha is set for a major transformation. Recent initiatives, inaugurated
by the Hon’ble President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, aim to enhance milk production
and improve nutritional outcomes. These initiatives focus on increasing milk procurement
capacity from 5 lakh to 10 lakh litres per day. The programs are spearheaded by the
Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying (DAHD) under the Ministry of Fisheries,
Animal Husbandry and Dairying.

1. 8 September - International Literacy Day– International Literacy Day is observed
on 8 September every year to make people aware of the importance of literacy which no
doubt is a matter of dignity and human rights.
2. 11 September- Digvijay Diwas– Digvijay Diwas is observed annually on September
11 to mark the historic speech of Swami Vivekananda in Chicago. In 1893, he attended the
Parliament of the World's Religions as a representative of India and Hinduism. The inaugural
World's Parliament of Religions took place from September 11 to September 27 1893. 22
3. 21 September - International Day of Peace (UN) – International Day of Peace (UN)
is observed on 21 September around the world. For the first time it was observed in
September 1982 and in 2001, the General Assembly adopted a resolution 55/282, which
established 21 September as International Day of Peace of non-violence and cease-fire.
4. 16 October - World Food Day- World Food Day is celebrated every year on 16
October to inspire people about healthy diets. On this day Food and Agriculture Organisation
was established and launched by the United Nations in 1945.
5. 17 October - Valmiki Jayanti - Valmiki Jayanti, celebrated on 17th October,
honours the revered sage Valmiki, the author of the epic Ramayana.
6. 20 October - World Statistics Day- World Statistics Day is celebrated every five
years on October 20. The first such day was observed on October 20, 2010. The day was
created by the United Nations Statistical Commission to acknowledge the importance of data
authenticity and credibility across the globe.
7. November 8: World Radiography Day - World Radiography Day was observed on
November 8 to commemorate Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen’s 1895 discovery of x-rays.
Roentgen accidentally discovered x-rays while experimenting with fluorescence in vacuum
tubes. He captured an image of his wife’s hand bones as the first x-ray evidence, earning him
the Nobel Prize in 1901. The 2024 theme, “Radiographers: Seeing the Unseen,” highlighted
radiography’s role in revealing the body’s interior and the responsibility of healthcare
professionals.
8. 15 November: Janjatiya Gaurav Divas - Janjatiya Gaurav Divas is celebrated every
year on November 15 to honor tribal communities’ contributions, especially in India’s
freedom struggle. The day marks the birth anniversary of Bhagwan Birsa Munda, a revered
tribal leader and freedom fighter. Since 2021, this day highlights the sacrifices of tribal
freedom fighters like the Santhals, Tamars, Kols, Bhils, Khasis, and Mizos. In 2024, a special
event in Jashpur, Chhattisgarh, marked Birsa Munda’s 150th birth anniversary, led by Dr.
Mansukh Mandaviya and joined by state leaders. The event included a ‘Maati Ke Veer’
Padayatra to celebrate tribal heritage and contributions to India’s progress.
9. 17th November- National Epilepsy Day- National Epilepsy Awareness Day is
November 17th. In this regard, the primary goal is to raise public awareness of epilepsy
disease, its symptoms, and its prevention. Epilepsy is thought to be a chronic brain disorder
marked by recurrent seizures or "fits." This has been observed to affect people of all ages, and
each person has their own set of concerns and problems to deal with.
10. 5 December: World Soil Day - World soil day is celebrated every year on December
5 to raise awareness about the importance of soil. The theme for this year is “Caring for soils:
measure, monitor, manage.” Soil is a living ecosystem that sustains plant life and regulates
the Earth’s temperature. Over 33% of global soils are degraded due to erosion, deforestation,
over-farming, and pollution. World Soil Day, initiated in 2002 and endorsed by the FAO in
2014, urges sustainable soil management. In India, soil health is deteriorating due to
excessive fertiliser use, over-irrigation, and deforestation.
11. 4 December: World Wildlife Conservation Day - World Wildlife Conservation Day
is observed on December 4 to raise awareness about protecting endangered flora and fauna.
The day emphasizes the importance of wildlife conservation and encourages action to
safeguard endangered species. India hosts four global biodiversity hotspots: Himalaya, Indo-
Burma, Western Ghats-Sri Lanka, and Sundaland. With only 2.4% of the world’s land area,
India supports 7-8% of recorded species, making it a megadiverse country.
12. 14 December : National Energy Conservation Day - This day is observed annually
in India on December 14, promoting energy efficiency and sustainability. It highlights the
importance of conserving energy and adopting sustainable practices for a greener future.
Introduced in 1991, it is led by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) under the Ministry of
Power. Energy conservation focuses on reducing unnecessary energy use through efficient
practices and technologies, ensuring resource availability for future generations. The day
features the National Energy Conservation Awards (NECA), honouring industries and
institutions for reducing energy consumption while maintaining efficiency.
13. 4 January - World Braille Day- In remembrance of the birth of Louis Braille, the
inventor of Braille, January 4 is marked as World Braille Day. The day also recognizes that
people with visual impairments should have the same access to human rights as everyone
else.
14. 12 January – National Youth Day- The birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda
also called Swami Vivekananda Jayanti is celebrated every year on 12 January. He was born

Diwas because the philosophy of Swamiji and the ideals for which he lived and worked could
be a great source of inspiration for the Indian Youth. He had given a speech at the Parliament
of the World's Religions in Chicago and glorified India's name.
15. 24 January- National Girl Child Day- On 24 January every year, National Girl
Child Day is celebrated to highlight the inequalities faced by a majority of the girls in India,
the importance of education, nutrition, legal rights, medical care and safety of girl children,
etc.

DELHI – NCT AND STATE ASSEMBLY ELECTIONS

1. Delhi is a Union territory of India, officially known as the National Capital Territory
(NCT) of Delhi. It is a Union Territory in India that includes the city of Delhi and the capital
of India, New Delhi. 2. The NCT of Delhi is jointly administered by the Central government,
the NCT elected State government, and three Municipal corporations (East Delhi Municipal
Corporation (EDMC), North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC), and the South Delhi
Municipal Corporation (SDMC))
3. Delhi has 7 Lok Sabha constituencies and 70 State Assembly
constituencies. 4. No. of Total Electors 1,55,24,858.
5. Assembly Constituency with Largest Electorate-Vikas Puri (AC-31)
6. Assembly constituency with Smallest Electorate-Delhi Cantt(AC-38)
7. Delhi has a Legislative Assembly because the Union government recommended that it
should have one to address the concerns of its citizens. The Legislative Assembly was
established in 1991 through the Constitution (Sixty-Ninth Amendment) Act.
8. The Legislative Assembly has the power to legislate on subjects in the State List and
Concurrent List, except for police, public order, and land.
9. Delhi has 70 constituencies which are divided into 58 general seats and 12 seats
are reserved for Scheduled Castes (SC). This ensures representation for all sections of
society.
10. The voting across all 70 Assembly constituencies will be on February 5 and
results will be announced on February 8.
