Unit: 1
Unit Title: Which word religions are present in the Caribbean?
Focus Question: Do member of the world religious in the Caribbean build places of
worship and festival differently from members in the countries
from which they came?
Attainment Target: Develop an openness and sensitivity towards those people whose
religious belief and practices may be different from those with
which they may be familiar.
Objectives:
At the end of the lesson Students will be able to:
 Name the religious symbols used by at least three (3) world religions.
 Draw the religious symbol for at least three (3) world religions.
 Match at least four (4) religious groups with their symbols.
 Name the places of worship for at least three (3) world religions.
 Orally explain the different ways of worship by at least two (2) world
religions.
 Name at least three holy books used by the world religions.
 Identify at least two languages that the holy books were first written in.
 Name at least three holy places of the world religion.
 Locate the places on the map for at least three world religions.
 List two important persons for the different world religions.
 Answer at least 12 questions about the different world religion.

Vocabulary/ Key Concepts: Hinduism, Christianity, Judaism, Islam, church, mosque,


synagogue, Caribbean region, world religion.
Skills: Asking appropriate questions, inferring information,
drawing conclusion.
Material: Pictures of the holy city, holy books, holy place and holy
symbols, the new integrated approach Religious Education
book 5.
Objectives:
At the end of the lesson Students will be able to:
 Name the religious symbols used by at least three (3) world religions.
 Draw the religious symbol for at least three (3) world religions.
 Match at least four (4) religious groups with their symbols.
Day1 The teacher will introduce the lesson by asking the students
questions on the different religious groups. This will be
done in such a way that the students will generate interest
in the discussion. The teacher will then ask the students to
name the different symbols used by the different religious
groups. From their response the teacher will then give the
students pictures of the different religious symbols used by
the world religions. The students will be told that the
symbols represent God being the head of the different
religious groups. The teacher will also explain to the
students when the different symbols are used.
Assessment: The students will be asked to match the symbols of the
world religion with the groups they represent.

Objectives:
 Name the places of worship for at least three (3) world religions.
 Orally explain the different ways of worship by at least two (2) world
religions.
Day 2 The previous lesson will be recapped to see how well the
students have grasped the lesson. The student will be
placed into groups of five (5). Picture of the different
places of worship will be given to each group. The students
will be asked to observe and compare the different features
of the different places of worship. The teacher will then
explain to the students how the different places of worship
are used by each religion. The teacher will also ask the
student to name the different Gods that are worship within
their places of worship. From their response the teacher
will demonstrate how they pray to their gods in their holy
places of worship.
Assessment: The students will be 10 questions pertaining to the lesson
for them to answer true or false.

Objectives:
 Name at least three holy books used by the world religions.
 Identify at least two languages that the holy books were first written in.
Day 3 The previous lesson will be recapped for the teacher to see
how well the students grasp the content of the past lesson.
The students will be asked to name the holy books used by
the four major world religions. From their response the
teacher will present to the students a chart with the different
holy books used by the four major world religion. The
teacher will explain to the student the nature of the different
holy books. It will be explained that the holy books contain
the ways in which the different religious people should live
and if they break the rules of the holy book there are
consequences for their action. The teacher will then explain
to the student the languages that the different holy books
were written in. The teacher will then play a recording on
the computer with the different books being read in their
own languages.
Assessment: The students will be asked to write a poem about Mahatma
Ghandi non violent protest.

Day 4 The teacher will ask the students to name the holy places of the four major
world religions. From the students response the teacher will explain to the
students why these places are significant to the different religious groups.
The teacher will then put up the map of the Caribbean and the map of the
world on the board. The students will also be placed into groups of five.
Each group will be given an atlas. The teacher will then call each group to
the board and show them where the n different holy places are located on
the map. The students will be asked to state the name of the prophet of
each of the four major world religions. From their response the teacher
place a list of the different important persons of the four major world
religions.
Assessment: Students will be given 15 questions from the week of lesson taught on the
board to answer correctly.
