Tafseer of surah Baqarah

Recap:

We said of how Allah Subahanawatha'la will test us with various things! And we need to remember
when Allah az’awajal afflicts us it doesn’t mean he wants to punish us or doesn’t love us; it is to make us
better and raise up in ranks! Because there are people who after calamities they get better and get
nearer to Allah az’awajal! But there are those who are the opposite and after calamities they go to kuffr
and become worse…

So Subahanallah Allah Subahanawatha'la is testing us to see if we really want the guidance and if we are
genuine about it then after the test we will go forward but the ones who don’t really want the guidance
they will go backwards!

In the time of calamities:

So we said how a believer in any calamity that befalls him he will really think GOOD of Allah az’awajal
and will never question the decree of Allah! And he will trust in Allah Subahanawatha'la and know that
whatever the calamity it has a good Hiqmah and this calamity will make it more polished!

But then the Munaafiq and the Kaafir: the calamity will make him go backwards….he will complain and
talk bad and misbehave with everyone and even kill themselves…..these are the Kaafir or Munaafiqs
who have no faith.

In the time of good:

For the believer when Allah Subahanawatha'la provides for him, he will feel more and be alert more and
be more afraid almost…..some of the salaf whenever a blessing came to them they were scared and
would make dua: ya rabbi don’t decrease my reward on the day of judgment! Subahanallah!

So this is a test when Allah Subahanawatha'la gives you more, you take it and use it but you are afraid,
not totally relaxed…you will always remind yourself that this is not Jannah!

Whenever the prophet sallallahu’alayhi’wasallam was given something good then he would say:

Allahumma la‘aisha illa‘aish-al-Aakhirah-

O Allah! The real and everlasting life is the life of the Hereafter
But the Munaafiq and Kaafir when he gets the good, he will be thinking that Allah is pleased with him
and he is spoilt and forgets Allah and gets caught up in the blessings!
Ayat 156

156. َ ِ ‫ا ِذ َن إِ َذا أَ َ َ ْ ُ ْم ُ ِ َ ٌ َ ُوا إِ ِ ِ َوإِ إِ َ ْ ِ َرا‬

‫ُون‬
Who, when afflicted with calamity, say: "Truly! To Allâh we belong and truly, to Him we shall return."

So we learn from the Quran where Allah Subahanawatha'la tells us of what they will do or what they will
say.

ٌَ ِ ُ Museebah : means like a trial a big trial! A calamity that is really painful! E.g.: when you lose
money or lose things in your life isn’t this painful? So this museebah is either in your body or in your
heart!

Body: where you get sick or something….

Heart: when you lose something and in your heart u feel no one can replace it…

Then what do the believers say? ‫َ ُوا‬

So Subahanallah when calamities happen we worry and get upset….sometimes before the calamities
there are people who predict what will happen and are always negative thinking oh this is going to
happen and what if so and so is taken away etc….. This is actually a waswaas of the shaitan!

But the believer is never like this! The believer stays positive! And Allah Subahanawatha'la is teaching us

what these believers say: َ ِ ‫إِ ِ ِ َوإِ إِ َ ْ ِ َرا‬

‫ُون‬
Now this consists of 2 parts:

1. Part 1 - ِ ِ ِ‫إ‬ Verily we all belong to Allah! He can do what He wills with us! We are His slaves
and Allah Subahanawatha'la is our creator and we are UNDER HIS control! We cannot dispose
our own affairs right! Then Allah Subahanawatha'la has the full right! You are all under Allah's
control and we all know that He is more merciful than a mother towards her children! So Allah’s
mercy is so vast! Subahanallah!

So the believer is content with the calamity, pleased, and he makes Shukr to Allah
Subahanawatha'la! Because he knows he is under Allah az’awajal!

There was a man in the time of the prophet sallallahu’alayhi’wasallam and he had a small boy…and
this boy got a fever when the father wasn’t there and the boy passed away in the house…..then the
mother she was wondering how to tell her husband about the death of the husband! So when her
 husband came he found the wife dressed up really beautiful that day and she was talking to the
husband nicely!

And she asked him: imagine if the neighbor gave you something and they came and asked for it back
will you then give it back?

Then the husband said: yes I will give it back……

And then she told him that Allah Subahanawatha'la has taken your son away….

Then the husband was so angry and he went to the prophet sallallahu’alayhi’wasallam and said of
what happened and then the prophet sallallahu’alayhi’wasallam said: may Allah Subahanawatha'la
bless your night! And Subahanallah that night the wife was found to be carrying a child!
Subahanallah!

ِ ِ ِ‫ ! إ‬And this was to do with losing a human….

So this is the -

But even if you lose money or if you lose anything you just say َ‫ِ ِ َوإِ إِ َ ْ ِ َرا ِ ُ ون‬ ِ‫إ‬
Therefore this is the first pillar of faith: BELIEF IN ALLAH

2. Part 2: َ ِ ‫ َوإِ إِ َ ْ ِ َرا‬this will give a comfort to the person because he will realize that
‫ُون‬
eventually all of it will go and there is no point being sad etc… they will never be upset with the
calamities!
But there are people who say: oh the more faith you have the more calamities you get so I
better stay away and not have faith….but this is not an option for us because the faith is so
valuable! When any problem occurs it will happen and never think it will just occur to those who
are increased in faith! This is just the shaitan whispering to you!

The believer his attitude will be different….because he knows that Allah Subahanawatha'la decreed your
life already and you cannot change it. He will want to increase his faith always so that he can face the
test and pass it!

So this second part is: BELIEF IN THE DAY OF JUDGMENT!

So if a calamity occurs if you are patient through it then you will get the ajar. And let’s see what Allah
Subahanawatha'la promised to these people: we will see the promise of Allah and this is from Allah
az’awajal’s name: Al Mu’min!!!!!!!!!
157. ‫ون‬ َ "َ ٰ ‫ْ َ ٌ ۖ َوأُو‬%‫ات ِ نْ َر & ِ ْم َو َر‬
َ ‫ِك ُھ ُم ا ْ ُ ْ َ ُد‬ ٌ ‫َ َ( َو‬ َ "َ ٰ ‫أُو‬
‫ِك َ) َ( ْ ِ ْم‬
They are those on whom are the Salawât (i.e. who are blessed and will be forgiven) from their Lord,
and (they are those who) receive His Mercy, and it is they who are the guided-ones.

So let’s do a count of what they will get:

• َ "ِ َ ٰ ‫ أُو‬Allah Subahanawatha'la is magnifying them and exalting them! Subahanallah!!! No one
‫ك‬
can ever put these people down because Allah Subahanawatha'la has honored them!!

• ٌ ‫َ َ( َو‬
‫ات ِ نْ َر & ِ ْم‬ Salawaath which is the plural of the word: salaath. What is salaath?
With regards to the human it means prayer.
With regards to the Malaaikah- it means the angels are saying salaath on us [making dua for us]!
Then if the salaath comes from Allah what does it mean?
THAT ALLAH AZ’AWAJAL IS PRAISING THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Allah Subahanawatha'la is praiseworthy – Hameedh and doesn’t need to praise us but he
does!!! Subahanallah! And this praise is not just one praise but SALAWAATH: PRAISE AFTER
PRAISE INFRONT OF THE ANGELS!!!!!
Allahu Akbar!!!!!!!!

• And the salawaath is from ‫ َر & ِ ْم‬the reformer!!!!!! Therefore they will be elevated in rank
also!!!! Allah Subahanawatha'la he praises you and all because he is your reformer and you are
being elevated in rank after Allah az’awajal who is your Rabb has praised you!! So Subahanallah
out of Allah's nurturing only these people are being praised right!

• ٌ َ ْ%‫ َو َر‬A special mercy!! Subahanallah! Special as in where whatever the way of good is all of
it is made easy for you!!! the more the Rahma you have the faster will you be on the siraat and
all the gates of good are opened for you: so you will be able to do more god and ibaadah and
stay away from the bad etc…. Allah Subahanawatha'la will put the love for the good and remove
the love for the bad in your heart! Allahu Akbar! And the more mercy you have the faster will
you be on the siraat!

• ‫ون‬ َ "َ ٰ ‫َوأُو‬

َ ‫ِك ُھ ُم ا ْ ُ ْ َ ُد‬ And they will be of those who are guided! Guided on the siraat
to Jannah! Subahanallah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
 And Allah Subahanawatha'la gave them a name: َ ‫ !!!!ا ْ ُ ْ َ ُد‬Those who are guided and will
‫ون‬
earn Allah’s pleasure!
