ii. A boy runs for 20 min. at a uniform speed of 18km/h. At what speed should he run for the
next 40 min. so that the average speed comes 24km/hr.
12. i. An object moves along a straight line with an acceleration of 2 m/s2. If its initial speed is
10 m/s, what will be its speed 2 s later?
ii. A bullet hits a Sand box with a velocity of 20 m/s and penetrates it up to a distance of 6
cm. Find the deceleration of the bullet in the sand box.
iii. A particle experiences constant acceleration for 20 seconds after starting from rest. If it
travels a distance D1 in the first 10 seconds and distance D2 in the next 10 seconds then,
(a) D2 = D1 (b) D2 = 2D1 (c) D2 = 3D1 (d) D2 = 4D1
13. i. A train accelerated from 10km/hr to 40km/hr in 2 minutes. How much distance does it
cover in this period? Assume that the tracks are straight?
ii. A train starts from rest and accelerate uniformly at the rate of 5 m/s2 for 5 sec. Calculate
the velocity of train in 5 sec.
iii. A bullet leaves a rifle with a muzzle velocity of 1042 m/s. While accelerating through the
barrel of the rifle, the bullet moves a distance of 1.680 m. Determine the acceleration of
the bullet (assume a uniform acceleration)

iv. A bike riding at 22.4 m/s skids to come to a halt in 2.55 s. Conclude the skidding distance
of the bike.
v. A race scooter is seen accelerating uniformly from 18.5 m/s to 46.1 m/s in 2.47 seconds.
Determine the acceleration of the scooter and the distance travelled.
14. i. Bus X travels a distance of 360 km in 5 hours whereas bus Y travels a distance of 476 km
in 7 hours. Which bus travels faster?
ii. Arrange the following speeds in increasing order (keeping the least speed first):
a) An athlete running with a speed of 10 m/s.
b) A bicycle moving with a speed of 200 m/min.
c) A scooter moving with a speed of 30 km/h.
15. i. An aircraft travelling at 600 km/h accelerates steadily at 10 km/h per second. Taking the
speed of sound as 1100 km/h at the aircraft’s altitude, how long will it take to reach the
‘sound barrier’?
ii. If a bus travelling at 20 m/s is subjected to a steady deceleration of 5 m/s2, how long will it
take to come to rest?
16. Find the initial velocity of a car which is stopped in 10 seconds by applying brakes. The
retardation due to brakes is 2.5 m/s2.
17. A motorcycle moving with a speed of 5 m/s is subjected to an acceleration of 0.2 m/s 2.
Calculate the speed of the motorcycle after 10 seconds, and the distance travelled in this
time.
18. A cheetah starts from, rest, and accelerates at 2 m/s2 for 10 seconds. Calculate:
(a) the final velocity
(b) the distance travelled.
19. A cyclist is travelling at 15 m s-1. She applies brakes so that she does not collide with a wall 18
m away. What deceleration must she have?
20. A train starting from stationary position and moving with uniform acceleration attains a speed
of 36 km per hour in 10 minutes. Find its acceleration.
21. (a) Write the three equations of uniformly accelerated motion. Give the meaning of each
symbol which occurs in them.
(b) A car acquires a velocity of 72 km per hour in 10 seconds starting from rest. Find
(i) the acceleration,
(ii) the average velocity, and
(iii) the distance travelled in this time.
22. On a 120 km track, a train travels the first 30 km with a uniform speed of 30 km/h. How fast
must the train travel the next 90 km so as to average 60 km/h for the entire trip?
23. Two cars A and B race each other. The Car A ran for 2 minutes at a speed of 7.5 km/h, slept

car A in the race.
24. An electron moving with a velocity of 5×103m/s enters into a uniform electric field and
acquires a uniform acceleration of 103m/s2 in the direction of initial velocity.
i. Find out the time in which electron velocity will be doubled?
ii. How much distance electron would cover in this time?
25. A bullet hits a Sand box with a velocity of 20 m/s and penetrates it up to a distance of 6 cm.
Find the deceleration of the bullet in the sand box.
