How Does SolidWorks Validate The Results in Simulation

SolidWorks validates its simulation results using three methods: a comprehensive list of verification problems, NAFEMS registered problems, and 100 examples from the AFNOR standard. NAFEMS is an independent organization promoting effective engineering simulation methods, while AFNOR results typically fall within 1% of the ideal solution. Other FEA software claims may be misleading, as they often do not conform to specific standards for verifying FEA results.

HOW DOES SOLIDWORKS VALIDATE THE RESULTS IN SIMULATION?

Firstly, there is no one “Standard” as such to follow to validate FEA software. SolidWorks use 3 methods to prove their
Simulation tool gives good results. This comes as a comprehensive list of Verification problems, NAFEMS registered problems
and a set of 100 examples from a French standard known as AFNOR.

NAFEMS is an independent not-for-profit body who aim to promote the effective use of engineering simulation methods
(http://www.nafems.org/).

Information on the French standard AFNOR (Association Française de NORmalisation, French Standardization Association) can
be found in the SolidWorks knowledge base (article S-063054) the results of which generally fall within 1% of the ideal solution.

On a separate note, other FEA software may claim to “be approved for” or conform to a particular industry-specific standard.
However, the wording is usually confused to mean simply that FEA was able to play-a-part in some way to the design process of
a product, rather than the FEA being certified against a standard created specifically for verifying the correctness of FEA results
in that industry.

Further information on the above can also be found in the SolidWorks Knowledge Base…
