Security Council
Position on the Conflict in Gaza, Palestine
Honorable Chair, esteemed delegates,
distinguished guests. The United Kingdom stands
before this assembly as a steadfast advocate for
peace, justice, and international law. The suffering
in Gaza is a dire humanitarian crisis, demanding
urgent and decisive action. The UK remains
resolute in its commitment to a just resolution
based on internationally recognized borders,
ensuring that Israelis and Palestinians may coexist
in security, dignity, and prosperity.
Peace is not merely the absence of conflict but the
presence of justice. A lasting solution requires
mutual recognition, self-determination, and
diplomacy. While we acknowledge Israel’s right to
self-defense, military actions must remain
proportional and aligned with international
humanitarian law. Settlement expansion and forced
displacements only fuel division and must cease for
true peace to emerge. Furthermore, the UK
recognizes the necessity of responsible foreign
intervention to uphold stability and protect human
rights, ensuring that global efforts work in unison
to de-escalate violence and mediate lasting peace.
The UK remains a leading force in humanitarian
aid, working with UNRWA and global partners to
deliver essential assistance. We demand
accountability from all parties and urge the
international community to intensify diplomatic
efforts. Through unwavering commitment to
diplomacy, strategic international engagement,
and adherence to law and human rights, we can
turn peace from aspiration into reality.
