Upgrade of 2nd and 3rd Ring Road
& Damascus Street, Kuwait

Client: Public Authority for Roads and Transportation

Scope of Services: Design and Construction Supervision
Construction Cost: USD450M
Partners: PROYAPI Mühendislik ve Müşavirlik A.Ş. of
Turkey

The upgrade of the 2nd and 3rd Ring Roads, and

Damascus Street in Kuwait City is a challenging road
project serving high-density residential districts in the
middle of the Kuwait metropolitan area. The existing road
network and adjacent residential areas are rich in existing
utilities and soft landscape. Existing utilities and land
acquisitions, as well as aspects of residential privacy, are
major contributing factors to the design.

The project comprises 17 km of roads, 26 junctions and

approximately 140 km of utilities that are required to be
diverted or upgraded. The Second Ring Road is 5km long
extending East to West within Kuwait City, with the Third
Ring Road similarly extending East to West over 9km.
Damascus Street is a 3km stretch of road extending North
to South and connects the Second and Third ring roads.
The highway upgrade scheme will combine multilevel
interchanges and at-grade intelligent signalised junctions.

SSH will provide design services for all wet and dry utilities,
and is responsible for assessing the feasibility of the
proposed land acquisition. The proposed upgrade highway
routing will be assessed by conducting a land acquisition
study in consultation with local landowners and relevant
authorities, as well as a road-safety audit.

This landmark infrastructure project plays a key role in

solving traffic congestion for many high-density residential
districts in the Kuwait City area. The new road upgrades
are aimed to have an effective impact on the societal,
economic and environmental transport infrastructure of
Kuwait.

4 District Centres at South Al Mutlaa
Residential City, Kuwait

Client: Public Authority for Housing Welfare (PAHW)

Scope of Services: Master Planning, Architecture and
Engineering

SSH was appointed by the Public Authority for Housing

Welfare (PAHW) to carry out the master planning and full
architectural design of four prototype district centres that
will form part of the Al Mutlaa residential development.
The four district centres utilise contemporary
architectural designs with each district centre having its
own unique architectural language and theme. The four
prototypes will be used to create twelve district centres
in total.

Each district centre will accommodate 12 buildings,

including the central market building, town mosque,
government citizen’s services and municipality centres,
as well as a post office and police station, among other
government support buildings. The buildings will be
built within a pedestrian friendly landscape designed to
allow users to walk the entire premises without being
exposed to the harsh desert sun. The project is currently
in the final design phase and is expected to tender in
September 2019.
