Dear Venkatesh,
Your belief that 40 GB hard disk drives have a greater tendency
to develop bad sectors is a fallacy. A simple case of bad luck might
have more to do with your friend’s drive crashing, than its 40 GB
capacity (we’ve got a substantial number of similar capacity
drives that are running completely trouble-free in our offices). The
best way to avoid bad sectors is by taking necessary precautions
such as refraining from moving the drive while it’s in operation
and providing clean, uninterrupted power to your computer.

my vote went to the Cambridge set for its

computers or services. The system can
ascertain that other computers are trust-

termed as attestation and it forms a cor -

Once attestation is done, exchange of

Printing in Excel
When printing from Excel, usually, we would want to change
the scale at which it is printed, specify headers, footers and mar-
gins, change the print quality, etc. This is true with several kinds
of documents in Word too. All you need to do is create separate
macros for your different printing needs, and run the right one
when you need to print.
Let’s create a macro in Excel that prints three copies of the
worksheet in Landscape format with gridlines, scaling the sheets
to 70 per cent. The pages should be centred horizontally and ver-
tically and must be numbered. Click Tools > Macro > Record New
Macro to begin recording. Name the macro Print3CopiesNum-
bered and click OK. In Excel, macros saved in the Personal Macro
Workbook will be available to all sheets. Click File > Page Setup
and choose Landscape for the Orientation and 70% for the scal-
ing under the Page tab. Under the Margins tab, check the boxes
to centre the worksheet horizontally and vertically. On the Head-
er/Footer tab, choose ‘Page 1 of ?’ for the footer and enable Grid-
lines on the Sheet tab. Click the Print button and set the number
of copies to 3. Hit Print and stop recording the macro. To allow
for further customisation, you may want to skip the last step and
just stop recording. Now, whenever you want to print a work-
sheet with these settings, simply run this macro.
Macros provide a very powerful and efficient way to perform
repetitive tasks, so why spend your time doing mundane, time-
consuming tasks when you can have the software do it for you?
