Beginner's Guide to Geomancy
1. Introduction to Geomancy
Geomancy is a traditional form of divination using 16 figures composed of 1 or 2 dots per line, representing
the elements: Fire, Air, Water, and Earth. It is used to answer questions or explore situations through
symbolic patterns.
2. The 16 Geomantic Figures
Each figure is made up of 4 lines:
1st line - Fire
2nd line - Air
3rd line - Water
4th line - Earth
Examples:
Fortuna Major: 1 dot, 2 dots, 2 dots, 1 dot - Strong success
Populus: 2 dots on all lines - Passivity, crowd, waiting
Via: 1 dot on all lines - Change, travel
3. How to Generate a Reading
1. Ask a clear question.
2. Randomly generate 4 lines of 1 or 2 dots (traditionally by making marks in sand or on paper).
3. Repeat this 4 times to create the 4 Mothers.
4. Derive 4 Daughters by using the same-positioned lines from each Mother.
5. Use pairs to calculate 4 Nieces: add dot counts per line (odd=1 dot, even=2 dots).
6. Calculate Witnesses and Judge in the same way.
7. The final figure (Judge) gives the overall answer.
4. Interpreting the Figures
Each figure has an elemental and symbolic meaning. Consider:
