HEALTH VOCABULARY:

I exercise every morning to keep fit.


Sometimes I go to the gym. But other times, I like to go jogging in the park.
Exercising is very important to keep your body healthy and fit.
If you follow a diet, you will not be fat. (follow a diet = go on a diet).
Salads, vegetables and fruits are healthy.
Fast food is unhealthy. It increases the level of cholesterol.
I eat only healthy food. I don’t eat fatty food such as pizza, chips and hamburgers.
Some eating habits are harmful to your health like eating fast and without washing your hands.
People should stop smoking because it can cause diseases such as cancer.
If you are sick, you should see a doctor.
The doctor can diagnose the problem and write a prescription for you.
In a prescription, the doctor prescribes the kind of medicine you should take and the number of
times you should take it.
You should follow the doctor’s prescription.
You should see a doctor from time to time for check-up.
Today, people suffer from many diseases such as obesity.
Obese people should work hard to reduce their obesity. For example, they should follow a diet and
exercise more often.
My friend is sick these days. I wish him a quick recovery.
When he recovers from his illness, we will go on picnic with some friends.
Hakim will have an operation on his heart next week.
The doctor who will operate on him is a very good doctor.
Exercising and healthy food prevent diseases.
Hard work prevents failure.
Prevention is better than cure.
ENTERTAINMENT AND LEISURE
 Leisure activities are the activities which we do in our free time. They are pastimes.
 We do these activities to entertain and enjoy ourselves.
 Comedy movies entertain me so much and they make me laugh.
 Leisure activities are important because they help us relax and have a good time.
 When we have fun, we feel happy.
 For example, hanging out with my friends and playing together make me very happy.
 Leisure activities have a lot of physical, mental and emotional benefits.
 Leisure activities are good for the body, the mind, and the soul.
 Moreover, they recharge us with energy.
 People cannot spend all their time just working or studying. They need to have a break.
 In my free time, I like to do many things such as playing, chatting online and watching
TV.
 My favourite pastime is playing football. But my friend’s favourite hobby is hiking in the
forest.

In this month’s grammar fun section we’ll be looking at the difference between adjectives ending in “,-ed”
and “,-ing”. This is often confusing for students of English. We’ll make it easy for you! (Answers on page 44.)
