Pursuant to Republic Act 7079, otherwise known as “Campus Journalism Act of 1991”,
released through DepEd Order No. 94, s. 1992, which stipulates the holding of annual
schools press conference, this Office announces the Conduct o f Initial Round for
Division Schools Press Conference (DSPC) with the theme, “Ethical Journalism in the
World of Artificial Intelligence”.
The District-Based Schools Press Conference of Balingasag South held at San Juan
National High School last September 14, 2024 and was participated by 4 secondary
schools, namely; San Juan NHS, Baliwagan NHS, Samay Integrated School and Linabu
Integrated School. It was an extraordinary showcase of talent, collaboration, and
journalistic prowess. It encapsulates the energy, camaraderie, and achievements that
defined this year's press conference, bringing together schools in a celebration of
creativity, storytelling, and teamwork.
Months before the event, schools across the district were abuzz with preparations.
Student journalists honed their skills, fine-tuned their articles, and engaged in
collaborative efforts with their respective school publications. The air was thick with
anticipation as the date of the press conference drew near.
The activity started at 9 o’çlock in the morning, registration of participants and an
opening program took place. Mr. Pepito D. Sinodlay, the Senior High School Focal
Person of San Juan NHS gave his welcome address followed by the statement of
purpose by the journalism coordinator of the school, Mrs. Claudine P. Emanel. After the
short program, the venue was announced. The judges for the competition were Joyce F.
Magallones, Arlene A. Jabonga, Paulina T. Sabacajan, and Monaliza Dapitan. The
participants showcased their skills and talent in writing and radio broadcasting, aiming
to achieve the highest honors in various categories. According to the judges, each
participant demonstrated dedication and determination to excel in their field.
This years District Schools Press Conference was an extraordinary celebration of talent
and collaboration among young journalists. The event not only showcased the skills of
student journalists but also highlighted the significance of ethical practices in a rapidly
changing media landscape.
As schools prepare for the next round of competitions, the insights gained from this
event will undoubtedly shape the future endeavors of aspiring journalists across the
district.
