Day-1: Basic Principles of Radiography and Digital Technology

1. Terminology

- Anatomical Terminology: Used to describe body parts and positions.

- Positioning Terminology: Refers to patient positioning for radiographs.

- Projection Terminology: Describes path of the X-ray beam (e.g., AP, PA, lateral).

2. The Radiographic Image - Image Formation

- Projection and View: Understand how X-ray beam direction defines projection.

- Density and Contrast: Determines the image quality in terms of black/white areas.

- Magnification and Distortion: Size and shape changes due to position or angle.

- Image Sharpness: Clarity of details; affected by motion, focal spot size, etc.

- Image Acquisition and Display: From exposure to display on monitor.

3. Digital Imaging

- Introduction: Transition from film-based to digital systems.

- Image Acquisition: Use of digital detectors (CR/DR).

- Factors Affecting Image Quality: Exposure, noise, resolution, etc.

- Networking: Connection of imaging equipment with PACS, HIS/RIS.

- Image Processing: Adjusting brightness, contrast, edge enhancement.

- PACS Components and Workflow: Storing, retrieving, viewing, sharing images.
