should the boatman row in order to reach a point on the other bank directly opposite to the point form where he
started? The width of the river is 2 km. (300)
3. A river 800 m wide flows at the rate of 5km/h. A swimmer who can swim at 10 km/h in still water, wishes to
cross the river straight. (i) Along what direction must he strike? (ii) what should be his resultant velocity? (iii)
how much time he would take? (300; 2.4 m/s; 333.3s)

vertical component of the velocity. (288.67 km/h; 144.33 km/h)
5. Find the unit vector parallel to the resultant of the vectors = 2 - 6 - 3 and =4 +3 - . ( -3 -4 )
6. Find the value of λ in the unit vector 0.4 + 0.8 + λ . ( )
7. Find the value of λ so that the vectors =2 + + and = 4 - 2 - 2 are perpendicular to each other. (λ = 3)
