Worksheet: Parts of a Circle (Class 8 - Advanced)

1. Define the following parts of a circle:

a) Radius

b) Diameter

c) Chord

d) Arc

e) Sector

2. A circle has a radius of 7 cm.

a) What is the diameter?

b) A chord is 12 cm long. Is it a diameter? Justify your answer.

3. In a circle with radius 6 cm, a chord is 6 cm long. Is the chord equal to the radius? Draw and

explain what this tells us about the triangle formed by the chord and the radius.

4. A sector of a circle has an angle of 90°. The radius is 8 cm.

a) What fraction of the circle is the sector?

b) Find the length of the arc. (Use pi = 3.14)

5. Two chords of a circle are equal in length. Prove that they are equidistant from the center of the

circle using geometry reasoning.

6. The diameter of a circle is 14 cm. A chord is 7 cm from the center. Find the length of the chord.

7. In a circle with center O, points A and B lie on the circle such that AB is a chord. Point C is on the

arc opposite AB. Prove that angle ACB is greater than angle AOB.

8. A circular pizza is cut into 8 equal slices. If the radius is 10 cm, calculate the area of one slice.

(Use pi = 3.14)
