Class 10 CBSE – Mathematics Question Paper (40 Marks)

Time: 1½ Hours | Maximum Marks: 40

General Instructions:
- All questions are compulsory.
- Use of a calculator is not permitted.
- Figures are not drawn to scale.
- Attempt all parts of a question together.

Section A – 1 Mark Questions (4 × 1 = 4 marks)

1. Find the HCF of 60 and 72 using the Euclidean Algorithm. (Real Numbers)

2. Write the degree of the polynomial: 5x³ - 4x² + 7. (Polynomials)

3. Write the condition for the system of equations ax + by = c and dx + ey = f to have a

unique solution. (Linear Equations)

4. If sin A = 3/5, find cos A, given that angle A is acute. (Trigonometry)

Section B – 2 Mark Questions (3 × 2 = 6 marks)

5. Show that √5 is an irrational number. (Real Numbers)

6. Find the zeroes of the quadratic polynomial x² + 5x + 6, and verify the relationship
between zeroes and coefficients. (Polynomials)

7. Solve:
3x + 2y = 12
x - y = 1 (Pair of Linear Equations in Two Variables)

Section C – 3 Mark Questions (4 × 3 = 12 marks)

8. Using the Fundamental Theorem of Arithmetic, find the HCF and LCM of 72 and 120. Also,
verify that HCF × LCM = Product of the two numbers. (Real Numbers)

9. Divide 2x³ + 3x² - 2x + 5 by x + 1 and write the quotient and remainder. (Polynomials)

10. Draw the graphs of the following equations on the same sheet and find the point of
intersection:
x+y=5
x - y = 1 (Linear Equations)

11. If tan A = 4/3, evaluate:

(2sin A · cos A) / (sin² A - cos² A) (Trigonometry)
Section D – 4 Mark Questions (4 × 4 = 16 marks)
12. Prove that (4n² - 1)/8 is an integer for every natural number n. (Real Numbers)

13. The product of two zeroes of the cubic polynomial 2x³ - 3x² - 11x + 6 is 3. Find all the
zeroes of the polynomial. (Polynomials)

14. A boat goes 30 km downstream and 18 km upstream in 3 hours. It can go 21 km

downstream and 21 km upstream in 3 hours and 30 minutes. Find the speed of the boat in
still water and the speed of the stream. (Pair of Linear Equations – Word Problem)
OR
Solve graphically:
2x + 3y = 12
4x - y = 5

15. Prove the identity:
