Worley Interview Transcript

Initially there was an entrance test of 1 hr that included 30 qn of core chemical and
30 qn of aptitude. Next there was an interview that lasted for around 45 minutes.
Two people were there one from HR and other one was a process engineer. The
questions were as follows:
1. Introduce yourself. (2-3 mins)
2. Tell me about your internships and projects. (5-7 mins)

Rest 30 to 35 minutes went into technical

3. What are your areas of Intrests in Chemical Engineering?

Me: Heat & Mass Transfer
4. In spiral type and Plate and frame Heat exchanger, which type of pure flow
pattern is possible.
5. In the case of Shell & Tube heat Exchanger when does the same flow happens
and in what conditions?
6. Which software do we use industrially for HT calculations?
7. Say there’s a shell and tube heat exchanger, I fix the shell diameter, all the
process stream parameters velocity flowrate etc and tube dia, How to
decrease the Pressure drop in that case? Give two solutions.
8. Explain the EDR based Heat Exchanger modelling in AspenPlus
9. Briefly explain the thermal designing of Heat Exchanger.
10. Why use logarithmic mean instead of arithmetic mean?
11. Where does the effect of fouling comes in Heat Exchanger Calculations and in
what equation?
12. What is the equation used to calculate the differential Pressure of the pump.?
13. Does it account for losses?
14. Which type of losses? How to calculate them?
15. Which type of tower should I choose for a foaming fluid?
16. Is it more energy Intensive?
17. Which one out of ADU & VDU is larger in diameter and why?
18. What happens to condenser duty if I increase Reflux rate not ratio?
19. Is it the only duty that gets affected?
20. What is the significance of Reynolds number?
21. In Heat Exchanger what type of Heat Transfer takes place. Also describe
how?
22. How would be the corresponding temperature profile would look like?
23. Which equation Is used to calculate pressure drop in pipe and what region it is
used?
24. What is the working principal of natural draft and forced draft cooling tower
In what type tower pressure drop Is higher and why?
25. What is the minimum temperature water in a cooling tower can reach to?
26. Say you have a distillation column and in overhead section 99% purity is being
achieved, How to calculate the optimum Pressure in the tower.
27. Why do you want to join worley?
28. What if I don’t give you sustainability projects?
29. What is your target say 5 to 10 years down the line?
