The Lord be with you. And also with you.
The priest greets the people and introduces the service
PENITENTIAL RITE
My brothers and sisters, to prepare ourselves to celebrate the sacred
mysteries, let us call to mind our sins.
Almighty God, our heavenly Father, we have sinned against you
and against our neighbour in thought and word and deed,
through negligence, through weakness, through our own
deliberate fault. We are truly sorry and repent of all our sins.
For the sake of your Son, Jesus Christ, who died for us,
Forgive us all that is past and grant that we may serve you
In newness of life to the glory of your name. Amen.
Almighty God, who forgives all who truly repent, have mercy upon
you, pardon and deliver you from all your sins, confirm and
strengthen you in all goodness, and keep you in life eternal: through
Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
GLORIA
Glory to God in the highest, and peace to his people on earth.
Lord God, heavenly King, almighty God and Father, we worship
you, we give you thanks, we praise you for your glory. Lord Jesus
Christ, only Son of the Father, Lord God, Lamb of God, you take
away the sin of the world: have mercy on us; You are seated at the
right hand of the Father: receive our prayer. For you alone are the
Holy One, you alone are the Lord, you alone are the Most High,
Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father.
Amen.

OPENING PRAYER
Eternal Father, whose Son Jesus Christ ascended to the throne of
heaven that he might rule over all things as Lord and King: keep the
Church in the unity of the Spirit and in the bond of peace, and bring
the whole created order to worship at his feet; who is alive and
reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit one God, now and
for ever. Amen.
FIRST READING
A reading from the prophet Ezekiel 34:11-12.15-17
The Lord says this: I am going to look after my flock myself and
keep all of it in view. As a shepherd keeps all his flock in view when
he stands up in the middle of his scattered sheep, so shall I keep my
sheep in view. I shall rescue them from wherever they have been
scattered during the mist and darkness. I myself will pasture my
sheep, I myself will show them where to rest – it is the Lord who
speaks. I shall look for the lost one, bring back the stray, bandage the
wounded and make the weak strong. I shall watch over the fat and
healthy. I shall be a true shepherd to them. As for you, my sheep, the
Lord says this: I will judge between sheep and sheep, between rams
and he-goats.
This is the word of the Lord Thanks be to God
RESPONSORIAL PSALM
R/ The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I shall want.
The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I shall want. Fresh and
green are the pastures where he gives me repose. R/
Near restful waters he leads me, to revive my drooping spirit. He
guides me along the right path; he is true to his name. R/
You have prepared a banquet for me in the sight of my foes. My
head you have anointed with oil; my cup is overflowing. R/
Surely goodness and kindness shall follow me all the days of my
life. In the Lord’s own house shall I dwell for ever and ever. R/
SECOND READING
A reading from the first letter of S. Paul to the Corinthians 15.20-26.28
2
Christ has been raised from the dead, the first-fruits of all who have
fallen asleep. Death came through one man and in the same way the
resurrection of the dead has come through one man. Just as all men
die in Adam, so all men will be brought to life in Christ; but all of
them in their proper order: Christ as the first-fruits and then, after
the coming of Christ, those who belong to him. After that will come
the end, when he hands over the kingdom to God the Father, having
done away with every sovereignty, authority and power. For he
must be king until he has put all his enemies under his feet and the
last of the enemies to be destroyed is death. And when everything is
subjected to him, then the Son himself will be subject in his turn to
the One who subjected all things to him, so that God may be all in
all.
This is the word of the Lord Thanks be to God
GOSPEL ACCLAMATION
Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia!
Blessings on him who comes in the name of the Lord!
Blessings on the coming kingdom of our father David!
Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia!
GOSPEL
The Lord be with you and also with you
A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Matthew 25:14-30
Glory to you, O Lord
Jesus said to his disciples: ‘When the Son of Man comes in his glory,
escorted by all the angels, then he will take his seat on his throne of
glory. All the nations will be assembled before him and he will
separate men one from another as the shepherd separates sheep
from goats. He will place the sheep on his right hand and the goats
on his left. ‘Then the King will say to those on his right hand,
“Come, you whom my Father has blessed, take for your heritage the
kingdom prepared for you since the foundation of the world. For I
was hungry and you gave me food; I was thirsty and you gave me
drink; I was a stranger and you made me welcome; naked and you
clothed me, sick and you visited me, in prison and you came to see
me.” Then the virtuous will say to him in reply, “Lord, when did we
see you hungry and feed you; or thirsty and give you drink? When
3
did we see you a stranger and make you welcome; naked and clothe
you; sick or in prison and go to see you?” And the King will answer,
“I tell you solemnly, in so far as you did this to one of the least of
these brothers of mine, you did it to me.” ‘Next he will say to those
on his left hand, “Go away from me, with your curse upon you, to
the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. For I was
hungry and you never gave me food; I was thirsty and you never
gave me anything to drink; I was a stranger and you never made me
welcome, naked and you never clothed me, sick and in prison and
you never visited me.” Then it will be their turn to ask, “Lord, when
did we see you hungry or thirsty, a stranger or naked, sick or in
prison, and did not come to your help?” Then he will answer, “I tell
you solemnly, in so far as you neglected to do this to one of the least
of these, you neglected to do it to me.” ‘And they will go away to
eternal punishment, and the virtuous to eternal life.’
This is the Gospel of the Lord Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.
We sit for HOMILY
We stand for THE PROFESSION OF FAITH
We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen.
We believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Son of God,
eternally begotten of the Father. God from God, Light from Light,
true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with
the Father; through him all things were made.
For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven,
At the words that follow, up to and including ‘and was made man’, all bow.
was incarnate from the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary,
and was made man.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate,
he suffered death and was buried.
On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures.
He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the
Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the
dead and his kingdom will have no end.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,
4
who proceeds from the Father and the Son,
who with the Father and the Son is worshipped and glorified,
who has spoken through the prophets.
We believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church.
We acknowledge one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins
We look for the resurrection of the dead
and the life of the world to come. Amen.
We remain standing for THE PRAYER OF THE FAITHFUL
Each bidding concludes with:
Lord in your mercy. Hear our prayer
The prayer of the faithful concludes with:
Merciful Father, accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our
Saviour, Jesus Christ. Amen.
THE PEACE
The peace of the Lord be with you always. And also with you.
We sit for THE OFFERTORY
We stand for EUCHARISTIC PRAYER
The Lord be with you. And also with you.
Lift up your hearts. We lift them up to the Lord.
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give him
thanks and praise.
The priest praises God for his mighty acts of creation and redemption. The
Sanctus is said:
Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth
are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest.
Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the
Highest.
We kneel for THE PRAYER OF CONSECRATION
Great is the mystery of faith:
Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again.
5
The celebrant concludes the prayer with:
through Jesus Christ our Lord; by whom, and in whom and with
whom, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all honour and glory be yours,
almighty Father, for ever and ever. Amen.
THE LORD’S PRAYER
At the Saviour’s command, and formed by divine teaching, we dare
to say:
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come, thy will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory,
for ever and ever. Amen.
We break this bread to share in the body of Christ.
Though we are many, we are one body, because we all share in
one bread.
AGNUS DEI
Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world,
have mercy on us.
Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world,
have mercy on us.
Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world,
grant us peace.
INVITATION TO COMMUNION
Behold the Lamb of God, behold him who takes away the sins of the
world. Blessed are those called to the supper of the Lamb.
Lord, I am not worthy to receive you,
but only say the word, and I shall be healed.
At this time, when our churches are closed for public worship, we will not
be able to receive Holy Communion physically, which will be a painful
6
thing for many of us. The tradition of the Church has been for people to
make a Spiritual Communion when they are prevented from receiving Holy
Communion. St Thomas Aquinas says in this we should have “an ardent
desire to receive Jesus in the Holy Sacrament and a loving embrace as
though we had already received Him”. You can pray this prayer as often as
you like, but most specifically at the time when you would normally be
present at Mass.
My Jesus, I believe that you are in the Blessed Sacrament. I love you
above all things, and I long for you in my soul. Since I cannot now
receive you sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. As
though you have already come, I embrace you and unite myself
entirely to you; never permit me to be separated from you. Amen.
(Confraternity of the Blessed Sacrament)
We kneel for PRAYER AFTER COMMUNION
The priest prays the prayer of thanksgiving to which we all respond:
Amen.
CONCLUDING RITE
The Lord be with you. And also with you.
The priest imparts the blessing which concludes:
and the blessing of God almighty, the Father, and the Son, and the
Holy Spirit be with you and remain with you always. Amen.
Go in the peace of Christ. Thanks be to God. CCL 25913
