SECTION A
Answer all questions in this section
1. (a) There 150 people at a cricket match, 20% are children, one half are men and the rest are
women. How many women are at the cricket match?
(b) A room with length 500 cm and 400 cm width is to be covered with the largest size of the
square tiles, if no space of the room is to be left uncovered and the cost of each square tiles is
2,500/= Tanzanian shillings. How much will it cost the floor of the room?
2. (a) Solve for x if 32x - 2(3x+1) = -9
(b) Given that logx = 3˙.8234, determine the value of log4√𝑋
3. (a) In an interview it was found that out of 30 house holders 10 have a car but not television,
13 have television but not car and 4 have neither car nor television. Using Venn diagram
illustrate the number of house holders having both car and television.
(b) A bag contains 4 red balls and 6 white balls. A ball is picked at random and replaced. A
second ball is then picked. What is the probability that;
(i) The first is white and the second is red?
(ii) Both have the same colours (use tree diagram)
4. (a) Find an equation of a line passing through the point (6, 7) and its inclination is 45°
(b) Given vector a=3i + 2j, b=8i -3j and c=2i + 4j. Find;
(i) Vector d= 3a – b – 1c

(ii) The unit vector in the direction of vector d.


5. (a) Two regular houses are similar in shape. Their areas are 205m2 and
32.8m2. If the height of the smaller house is 540 cm, calculate the height of the larger house.
(b) Find the perimeter of regular octagon which inscribed in a circle of radius 10 cm.
6. (a) A boy has a pile of four books on his desk. The thicknesses of the books are 22
millimeters, 13 millimeters, 39 millimeters and 18 millimeters respectively. Can the pile fit in a
shelf of a height of 10 centimeters? If so, calculate the length of the space left.
(b) The mass (m) which can be supported by a beam varies as the square of the breadth and
inversely with length (L). If a beam of breadth is increased by 30% and length is decreased by
9%, what is the percentage change in mass supported by beam?

7. (a) A book is bought for Tsh. 15,000/= and sold at a percentage profit of 10%. Find the
selling price.
(b) On 31st December 2022 Osward's accounts disclosed the following
information;

Show the income statement for the year ended 31st December 2022.
8. (a) The first three consecutive terms of an arithmetic progression are such that their sum is
15 and their product is 45. Find the sum of the first five terms of the sequence.
(b) A business person deposited 800,000/= Tsh. in a bank account paying 6% interest
compounded semi-annually.
(i) What will be the total amount after five (5) years?
(ii) Find interest after five (5) years.
9. (a) Given that sinA= 3 and cos B= 4 where A is absolute angle while B is acute

angle. Find the value of cos (A+B)
(b) A rectangular field is 42 long and 40 m wide. The soldiers were arranged on the diagonal of
the field at equal interval of two meters. How many soldiers were arranged on the diagonal of
the rectangular field?
10. (a) A rectangular garden is 6 cm wide and 8 m long. What length should be added to the
shorter side and reduced from the longer side so as to have a rectangular garden with the area
of 45 square.
(b) Given the right angled triangle below. Solve for x and calculate the length of the hypotenuse.

(b) In the following figure, a circle is inscribed in a ∆ABC touching it at x, y and x. If the
angles of ∆ABC are 70°, 80° and 30°, find the angles of triangles XYZ

12. (a) ABCD is the base and EFGH is the face of a cube. 𝐴̅̅𝐺̅̅is a diagonal of a cube and
𝐴̅̅𝐵̅̅= 20 cm.
(i) Calculate 𝐴̅̅𝐶̅̅ and 𝐴̅̅𝐺̅̅
(ii) Find the angle between the line 𝐴̅̅𝐺̅̅ and the base ABCD
(b) An aero plane flies from location A to location B. it left at 10:30 pm on 28 thFebruary 2022
at a speed of 101 km/h. Determine the date and the time an aero plane reached location B if
A(14°S, 42°E) and location B is (6°N, 42°E). (Use
= 3.14 and Rt=6370 km).

14. (a) The function f is defined by f(x)= -2 if X -1

(i) Sketch the graph of f(x)
(ii) State the domain and range of f(x)

(b) Mv. Mwanza Company limited offer lower class tickets and first class tickets. For the
company to be profitable, it must cell at least 25 first-class tickets and at least 40 lower-class
tickets. The company makes a profit 200,000/= shillings for each lower class ticket and
225,000/= shillings for first-class ticket. At most, the company has a capacity of 150 travelers.
How many each tickets should be sold in order to maximize profit?
