Exercise 1
Use the passive voice to rewrite these sentences.

1. We used this car for our trips. (simple Past tense)


This car was used by us for our trips.
2. They didn't clean the bird cages. (Simple Present Tense)
The bird cages is didn’t cleaned by them.
3. You could cut the branch with this knife. (Simple past future tense)
The branch would be cut with this knife by you.
4. Too many tourists annoyed me. (Simple past tense)
I was annoyed by too many tourists.
5. They didn't tell us what to do. (Simple Present Tense)
We are not told by them what to do.
6. Cars killed a lot of pedestrians. (Simple past tense)
A lot of the pedestrians was killed by cars.
7. IT companies increased profits. (Simple past tense)
Profits was increased by IT companies.
8. He didn't expect us to help him. (Simple present tense)
He didn’t expect to helped by us.
9. The police did a lot. (Simple past tense)
A lot was did by the police.
10. They didn't bring this laptop from Japan. (Simple present tense)
This laptop is didn’t brought by them from Japan.

Fill in the blanks with an appropriate passive verb form.

1. English has been spoken all over the world.

2. The show is being watched by the audience.

3. The thief has been arrested by the police.

4. The wounded man was being helped by some boys.

Notes

The object of the active verb becomes the subject of the passive verb. The subject of
the active verb becomes the object of the passive verb.
