Sticky Buns with Pecans Recipe
Dough Ingredients:
- 2 3/4 cups all-purpose or whole wheat flour
- 2 tbsp granulated sugar
- 2 1/4 tsp instant yeast (1 packet)
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 3/4 cup warm milk (not hot!)
- 2 tbsp melted butter or coconut oil
- 1 egg
Filling Ingredients:
- 2 tbsp softened butter or coconut oil
- 1/4 cup brown sugar or coconut sugar
- 1 tbsp cinnamon
- 1/2 cup chopped pecans
Caramel Pecan Topping Ingredients:
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1/4 cup brown sugar or honey
- 2 tbsp milk or cream
- Pinch of salt
- 1/2 cup pecan halves
Instructions:
1. Make the Dough:
- Mix warm milk, yeast, and sugar in a bowl. Let sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
- Add melted butter, egg, and flour with salt. Mix, then knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth.
- Cover and let rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours until it doubles.
2. Prepare the Filling:
- Mix butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, and chopped pecans.
3. Roll and Fill:
- Roll out the dough into a rectangle (about 1/4 inch thick). Spread the filling evenly.
- Roll the dough tightly and slice into rolls (about 1-1.5 inches thick).
4. Make the Caramel Pecan Topping:
- In a saucepan, melt butter. Stir in sugar, milk, and salt, then simmer for 1-2 minutes.
- Pour the caramel mixture into your baking dish and sprinkle pecan halves evenly over it.
5. Assemble and Bake:
- Place the rolls in the dish, on top of the pecan-caramel layer. Cover and let them rise for 30
minutes.
- Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 20-25 minutes until golden.
6. Invert and Serve:
- Immediately flip the baking dish onto a plate so the caramel and pecans coat the buns.
