Study 3 - THE COMMON, UNIQUE AND UNCOMMON SALVATION

Jude 1:3

“Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation,
it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly
contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.” (Jude 1:3). This
verse is the core of our calling as a ministry. So, you should be familiar with this verse
as a member of this Church.

1. THE EXPERIENCE AND EVIDENCE OF THE UNIVERSAL SALVATION

Jude 1:3; Luke 3:6

“Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation,
it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly
contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.” (Jude 1:3). In
this Epistle, he used the word ‘beloveth’ to signify those who were so loved by Christ.
And as a member of the Body of Christ, you give all diligence in your service and
performance of duty to the Body of Christ. Common salvation entails the universal
salvation that is common to all men in every nation and of all colours and races.

(i) The Gracious Saviour for Every Soul - John 4:42; Acts 4:12; 1 Timothy 2:3-4; 2
Peter 3:9. “And said unto the woman, Now we believe, not because of thy saying:
for we have heard him ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Christ, the
Saviour of the world.” (John 4:42). Jesus is the Saviour of the world, universal and
common to every man. “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none
other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.” (Acts
4:12). There is no salvation in any other religious or political figure. Jesus is the ONLY
Saviour. “For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; Who
will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.” (1
Timothy 2:3-4). He is the Common Saviour to all men. “The Lord is not slack
concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to
us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to
repentance.” (2 Peter 3:9). If anyone perishes, that is not the Will of God, for He
wants all men to be saved through repentance.

1
(ii) The Great Salvation for Every Sinner - Hebrews 2:1-3; Lk 19:5-10; Titus 2:11-
14; Romans 10:13. “Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the
things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip. For if
the word spoken by angels was stedfast, and every transgression and
disobedience received a just recompence of reward; How shall we escape, if we
neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord,
and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him;” (Hebrews 2:1-3). We have
heard of the common salvation and repentance; we should not let these slip from us.
The Lord spoke about this salvation and was confirmed by the Apostles who heard
Him. “And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up, and saw him, and said
unto him, Zacchaeus, make haste, and come down; for to day I must abide at
thy house. And he made haste, and came down, and received him joyfully. And
when they saw it, they all murmured, saying, That he was gone to be guest
with a man that is a sinner. And Zacchaeus stood, and said unto the Lord;
Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have taken any
thing from any man by false accusation, I restore him fourfold. And Jesus said
unto him, This day is salvation come to this house, forsomuch as he also is a
son of Abraham. For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which
was lost.” (Luke 19:5-10). Salvation comes in when the Saviour comes in as we
receive Him by faith, like Zacchaeus, into our hearts and house. If the worst of sinners
can have salvation, then you too can have His salvation. We get saved when we receive
Christ as the Lord of our lives and not as a religious or good man. The entrance of
Christ into any life brings about a change of life, heart, mind, outlook, appearance,
and character. Salvation does not come when you are born into the world, but the
moment you repent of your sins, and you give your heart and mind unto the Lord,
that is the moment that salvation comes into your life. “For the grace of God that
bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, Teaching us that, denying
ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly,
in this present world; Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious
appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; Who gave himself for
us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a
peculiar people, zealous of good works.” (Titus 2:11-14). It is the Will of God that
all men should be saved; that is why this Saviour Jesus is for every sinner. The grace
through this salvation teaches us to deny all ungodliness, and we live soberly and
righteously in this present evil world. Jesus redeems all from all iniquity. “For
whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” (Romans 10:13).
There is no discrimination or partiality in this salvation; it is for all men.

(iii) The Granted Salvation Ever the Same - Romans 10:9-10; 2 Corinthians 7:10;
Hebrews 5:9; 1 Peter 1:3-5,9-16. It is the same salvation that Zacchaeus, Peter, the
sorrowful woman, and the adulterous woman had. But if you are still sinning, fighting,
chewing tobacco and having hatred in your hearts, and you say that you are saved,
then that is not the same salvation that the saints of old had. “That if thou shalt
confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that
God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart
man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto
salvation.” (Romans 10:9-10). This salvation comes as you are sorrowful for your
2
past that leads you to repentance, and that repentance leads to a change of heart and
life, which is the salvation. “For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation
not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.” (2
Corinthians 7:10). When you have godly sorrow for the things you did in the past,
you are not regretting that you missed all the past sinful ways. “And being made
perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;”
(Hebrews 5:9). Eternal salvation is only for those who obey Him continually. “Blessed
be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his
abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection
of Jesus Christ from the dead, To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled,
and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you, Who are kept by the
power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.
Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls. Of which
salvation the prophets have enquired and searched diligently, who prophesied
of the grace that should come unto you: Searching what, or what manner of
time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified
beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow. Unto
whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves, but unto us they did minister
the things, which are now reported unto you by them that have preached the
gospel unto you with the Holy Ghost sent down from heaven; which things the
angels desire to look into. Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober,
and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the
revelation of Jesus Christ; As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves
according to the former lusts in your ignorance: But as he which hath called
you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; Because it is written,
Be ye holy; for I am holy.” (1 Peter 1:3-5,9-16). The reason we believe in the Lord
is so that we can have the salvation of our souls. Salvation makes us obedient children
and not disregarding or disobedient children. In all manner of your lifestyle, be holy
like the Lord, that is the evidence of your salvation in the Lord. The salvation He grants
us is ever the same as the salvation He granted the first-century believers.

2. THE EXPOSITION AND EXHORTATION TO HIS UNIQUE SALVATION

Jude 1:3; Acts 13:38-41,47-48

“Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation,
it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly
contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.” (Jude 1:3).
Never do anything in the house of God without diligence. You must bring your heart,
mind and soul into whatever service you are rendering in the household of faith. Give
of your best to the Master Jesus!

(i) The Exposition of His Word of Salvation - Acts 13:26,38-39,42-44; 17:30-31,34;

28:23-24. “Men and brethren, children of the stock of Abraham, and whosoever
among you feareth God, to you is the word of this salvation sent. Be it known
unto you therefore, men and brethren, that through this man is preached unto
you the forgiveness of sins: And by him all that believe are justified from all
things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses. And when the
3
Jews were gone out of the synagogue, the Gentiles besought that these words
might be preached to them the next sabbath. Now when the congregation was
broken up, many of the Jews and religious proselytes followed Paul and
Barnabas: who, speaking to them, persuaded them to continue in the grace of
God. And the next sabbath day came almost the whole city together to hear the
word of God.” (Acts 13:26,38-39,42-44). We must always bring the word of salvation
to the people. Whenever we come to the pulpit to preach, we should not give them
political, business or motivational talks, but the gospel of salvation. It is the word of
Christ that brings the word of salvation to us. “And the times of this ignorance
God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent: Because
he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness
by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto
all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead. Howbeit certain men clave
unto him, and believed: among the which was Dionysius the Areopagite, and a
woman named Damaris, and others with them.” (Acts 17:30-31,34). God wants
all men to be saved. They believed and made Christ their Lord and Saviour.

(ii) The Expression of the Willingness for Salvation - Isaiah 1:16-19; Jonah 3:4-
10; Luke 19:5-10; Acts 19:18-19. Since God is willing to save us, we too must be willing
to accept that salvation from the Lord. “Wash you, make you clean; put away the
evil of your doings from before mine eyes; cease to do evil; Learn to do well;
seek judgment, relieve the oppressed, judge the fatherless, plead for the widow.
Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as
scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they
shall be as wool. If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land:”
(Isaiah 1:16-19). When you want that salvation, you must be washed from all
uncleanliness, and not continue in the sins of your past and present life. You must
hate what God hates for you to have the real salvation of Christ. Learn to do well,
make diligent efforts to live the righteous life by the grace of God. If you are willing to
have the same salvation that Christ died and gave to the people who believed, then
you will eat the good of the land. “And many that believed came, and confessed,
and shewed their deeds. Many of them also which used curious arts brought
their books together, and burned them before all men: and they counted the
price of them, and found it fifty thousand pieces of silver.” (Acts 19:18-19). The
people who are saved are not secretive in their lifestyles and conduct. When you are
really saved, you are saved, and you will not have any shielded sin. You will not hide
any occult power, talisman, or demonic books if you are saved. But you will burn all
those books and evil powers. You will come out clean and fully, and sin will not have
any dominion over you in Jesus Name.

(iii) The Experience in the Way of Salvation - Acts 16:17; Matthew 7:13-14;
Jeremiah 6:16; Isaiah 35:8-10. “Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate,
and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go
in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth
unto life, and few there be that find it.” (Matthew 7:13-14). Here is Jesus telling
us that the broad way of man that does not count holiness as important in our
relationships with all men will lead to destruction. The people who follow the popular
4
and polluted way will lead to destruction. Some people are attracted to the crowd. But
the way of life is narrow, and few go through that way. You must think with your heart
and believe in your heart before you follow any way. “And an highway shall be there,
and a way, and it shall be called The way of holiness; the unclean shall not
pass over it; but it shall be for those: the wayfaring men, though fools, shall
not err therein. No lion shall be there, nor any ravenous beast shall go up
thereon, it shall not be found there; but the redeemed shall walk there: And
the ransomed of the LORD shall return, and come to Zion with songs and
everlasting joy upon their heads: they shall obtain joy and gladness, and
sorrow and sighing shall flee away.” (Isaiah 35:8-10). The way of holiness and
righteousness, no lion-like person with the character of lion, fighting, violence, anger
and hatred will not be on that highway of holiness. As preachers, the Scripture is not
given to us to fight our audience and others, but we are to preach to exhort, save and
correct, and not to fight our members. If you are transparent and hope to get to Heaven,
there must be no secret or shielded sin in your life and heart.

3. THE EARNESTNESS OF THE EXAMPLES OF HIS UNIFYING SALVATION

Jude 1:3; Ephesians 4:3,9,13

If we have the same salvation, then we are united, as we walk in the same path of this
salvation. Salvation unifies us. “Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto
you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and
exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once
delivered unto the saints.” (Jude 1:3). You are not sleeping or lingering in the way
of salvation, but earnest in the way of salvation.

The truly saved examples are as EARNEST as:

E - Exemplary Elisabeth - Luke 1:5-6,24-25,41-45. “There was in the days of

Herod, the king of Judaea, a certain priest named Zacharias, of the course of
Abia: and his wife was of the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elisabeth.
And they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments
and ordinances of the Lord blameless. And after those days his wife Elisabeth
conceived, and hid herself five months, saying, Thus hath the Lord dealt with
me in the days wherein he looked on me, to take away my reproach among men.
And it came to pass, that, when Elisabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the
babe leaped in her womb; and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost: And
she spake out with a loud voice, and said, Blessed art thou among women, and
blessed is the fruit of thy womb. And whence is this to me, that the mother of
my Lord should come to me? For, lo, as soon as the voice of thy salutation
sounded in mine ears, the babe leaped in my womb for joy. And blessed is she
that believed: for there shall be a performance of those things which were told
her from the Lord.” (Luke 1:5-6,24-25,41-45). Elisabeth was exemplary in
righteousness despite her challenge of bareness.

A - Ardent Aquila's wife - Acts 18:26; Romans 16:3-4; 1 Corinthians 16:19. Aquila
was always together with his wife, Priscilla. Also, they took in Apollos to show him the
5
way of righteousness more perfectly. “And he began to speak boldly in the
synagogue: whom when Aquila and Priscilla had heard, they took him unto
them, and expounded unto him the way of God more perfectly.” (Acts 18:26).
Greet Priscilla and Aquila my helpers in Christ Jesus: Who have for my life laid
down their own necks: unto whom not only I give thanks, but also all the
churches of the Gentiles.” (Romans 16:3-4). “The churches of Asia salute you.
Aquila and Priscilla salute you much in the Lord, with the church that is in
their house.” (1 Corinthians 16:19). There was no division between Aquila and
Priscilla; both were united in the same salvation and path of righteousness.

R - Reinvigorating Ruth - Ruth 1:16-18; 2:11-12; 3:10-11. “And Ruth said, Intreat
me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou
goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my
people, and thy God my God: Where thou diest, will I die, and there will I be
buried: the LORD do so to me, and more also, if ought but death part thee and
me. When she saw that she was stedfastly minded to go with her, then she left
speaking unto her.” (Ruth 1:16-18). Ruth was so consecrated unto the Lord despite
the loss of her husband.

N - Non-cowardly Noah (female) - Numbers 27:1-8. “Then came the daughters of

Zelophehad, the son of Hepher, the son of Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of
Manasseh, of the families of Manasseh the son of Joseph: and these are the
names of his daughters; Mahlah, Noah, and Hoglah, and Milcah, and Tirzah.
And they stood before Moses, and before Eleazar the priest, and before the
princes and all the congregation, by the door of the tabernacle of the
congregation, saying, Our father died in the wilderness, and he was not in the
company of them that gathered themselves together against the LORD in the
company of Korah; but died in his own sin, and had no sons. Why should the
name of our father be done away from among his family, because he hath no
son? Give unto us therefore a possession among the brethren of our father. And
Moses brought their cause before the LORD. And the LORD spake unto Moses,
saying, The daughters of Zelophehad speak right: thou shalt surely give them
a possession of an inheritance among their father's brethren; and thou shalt
cause the inheritance of their father to pass unto them. And thou shalt speak
unto the children of Israel, saying, If a man die, and have no son, then ye shall
cause his inheritance to pass unto his daughter.” (Numbers 27:1-8). This Noah
was a daughter and not cowardly. She was bold in demanding her rights along with
all the other daughters. When we are saved, a non-cowardly character comes upon
us.

E - Emancipating Esther - Esther 4:7-16. Esther was able to stand and preserve the
whole nation of the Jews. “And Mordecai told him of all that had happened unto
him, and of the sum of the money that Haman had promised to pay to the king's
treasuries for the Jews, to destroy them. Also he gave him the copy of the
writing of the decree that was given at Shushan to destroy them, to shew it
unto Esther, and to declare it unto her, and to charge her that she should go
6
in unto the king, to make supplication unto him, and to make request before
him for her people. And Hatach came and told Esther the words of Mordecai.
Again Esther spake unto Hatach, and gave him commandment unto Mordecai;
All the king's servants, and the people of the king's provinces, do know, that
whosoever, whether man or woman, shall come unto the king into the inner
court, who is not called, there is one law of his to put him to death, except
such to whom the king shall hold out the golden sceptre, that he may live: but
I have not been called to come in unto the king these thirty days. And they told
to Mordecai Esther's words. Then Mordecai commanded to answer Esther,
Think not with thyself that thou shalt escape in the king's house, more than
all the Jews. For if thou altogether holdest thy peace at this time, then shall
there enlargement and deliverance arise to the Jews from another place; but
thou and thy father's house shall be destroyed: and who knoweth whether thou
art come to the kingdom for such a time as this? Then Esther bade them return
Mordecai this answer, Go, gather together all the Jews that are present in
Shushan, and fast ye for me, and neither eat nor drink three days, night or
day: I also and my maidens will fast likewise; and so will I go in unto the king,
which is not according to the law: and if I perish, I perish.” (Esther 4:7-16). The
Lord will use you to preserve and defend the truth as well.

S - Selfless Samuel's mother - 1 Samuel 1:10-11,19-20,27-28. Samuel’s mother was

able to give her son totally unto the Lord. “And she was in bitterness of soul, and
prayed unto the LORD, and wept sore. And she vowed a vow, and said, O LORD
of hosts, if thou wilt indeed look on the affliction of thine handmaid, and
remember me, and not forget thine handmaid, but wilt give unto thine
handmaid a man child, then I will give him unto the LORD all the days of his
life, and there shall no razor come upon his head. And they rose up in the
morning early, and worshipped before the LORD, and returned, and came to
their house to Ramah: and Elkanah knew Hannah his wife; and the LORD
remembered her. Wherefore it came to pass, when the time was come about
after Hannah had conceived, that she bare a son, and called his name Samuel,
saying, Because I have asked him of the LORD. For this child I prayed; and the
LORD hath given me my petition which I asked of him: Therefore also I have
lent him to the LORD; as long as he liveth he shall be lent to the LORD. And he
worshipped the LORD there.” (1 Samuel 1:10-11,19-20,27-28).

T - Transforming Timothy's mother - 2 Timothy 1:5; 3:14-17. Timothy had that

transferred grace from his grandmother and mother. “When I call to remembrance
the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois,
and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also.” (2 Timothy 1:5).
“But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been
assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them; And that from a child
thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto
salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All scripture is given by
inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction,
7
for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect,
throughly furnished unto all good works.” (2 Timothy 3:14-17). And you will be
able to transfer your beliefs and salvation to your generation as well.

The Lord helped them, and He will help you to practice and defend this faith, and you
will not fall, or compromise or deny the faith.
