CHAPTER THREE: MANUFACTURING AND/OR OPERATIONS PLAN
3.1 Overview of the Chapter
This chapter outlines the operational aspects of Simba Sportswear Limited, including
business location, physical facilities, supply chain, and labor force. It defines how the
business will manage daily operations, ensure product availability, maintain quality, and
meet customer demand efficiently.
3.2 Location of the Business
i) Customer Accessibility
The business is located on Kimathi Street, Nyeri County, a prime area with high foot traffic
and proximity to universities, gyms, and residential neighborhoods—perfectly aligned with
our target market of youth and fitness enthusiasts. The location enhances visibility and
walk-in sales while serving as a reliable distribution hub for our online store.
ii) Physical Characteristics of the Location
The retail store comprises 1,000 sq. ft. of commercial space, allowing for proper product
display, customer flow, and inventory storage. The space includes a front-facing display
window, backroom storage, fitting rooms, and a cashier area.
3.3 Physical Facilities
The current facility meets retail and online fulfillment needs. Key physical features include:
• Customer & Supplier Access: Paved access with parking space for customers and loading
area for deliveries.
• Inventory Storage: Dedicated stock room with shelving for organized inventory
management.
• Fixtures and Furniture: Custom-made display racks, mannequins, cashier counter, and
changing rooms.
• Utilities: The facility is connected to reliable electricity and water supply. Ventilation and
lighting are adequate for customer comfort.
• Product Preparation & Display: The store layout supports seasonal merchandising. Visual
merchandising will play a key role in enhancing customer experience.
• Environmental Compliance: Operations comply with local business licensing and waste
disposal regulations.
• Expansion Capability: Space allows for future expansion or inclusion of in-store fitness
events or pop-up brand promotions.
3.4 Labour and Supply of Raw Materials (Inputs)
3.4.1 Sources of Supply
We source merchandise from both international sportswear brands and local
manufacturers. Our product mix includes:
• Branded products from certified distributors (Nike, Adidas, Puma)
• Private-label sportswear from local textile manufacturers based in Nairobi and Thika
• Accessories from wholesale suppliers and artisans
We maintain at least two alternative suppliers per product category to manage supply chain
risk. Supplier contracts will include delivery timelines, quality control expectations, and
cost terms.
3.4.2 Supply Alternatives and Risks
• Alternatives: If a supplier delays or increases prices unexpectedly, we can switch to
backup suppliers without significantly affecting operations.
• Risks: Supply chain disruptions due to import regulations, inflation, or logistics challenges.
• Mitigation Measures: Build buffer stock of fast-moving items, maintain strong supplier
relationships, and utilize ERP tools for inventory control.
