INSTALLING KNOCKOUT TILE IN MIAMI-DADE COUNTY


WITH APPROVED 3-COURSE FLASHING METHOD

The Miami-Dade County of Florida has


many stringent standards when it comes to
building projects, due to the hurricane-force
winds that frequent the region.

This Tech Tip will help show you how to


install Knockout Tile attachments on tile
roofs, using a sealing method compliant in
Miami-Dade and Broward Counties.

REQUIRED COMPONENTS & MATERIALS

The following items are needed to install Knockout Tile according to the approved method:

Knockout Tile L-Foot & Hdw Knockout Tile Pedestal & Lag Knockout Tile Flashing (Varies)

GAF® FlexSeal™ Sealant GAF® HydroStop® Fabric ChemLink® M-1® Sealant

3-COURSE INSTALLATION METHOD

1. Remove tiles over the attachment locations.

2. Determine the orientation of Knockout Tile


Pedestal (0 or 90 deg) based on rafter location.

3. Locate and mark the attachment locations in the


“knockout” zone (see manual).

4. Drill the pilot hole and clear the hole and


surrounding area of any debris.

5. Fill pilot hole with M1® Sealant

6. Install KO Tile Pedestal onto underlayment.

7. Apply 12” x 12” layer of GAF® FlexSeal™ sealant


over pedestal and install over existing roof
system.

8. Cut 2” slit in center of 12”x12” piece of GAF®


HydroStop® PremiumCoat® fabric.

9. Place GAF® HydroStop® fabric slit over Knockout 9


Tile Pedestal.

10. Apply 2nd 12” x 12” layer of GAF® FlexSeal™


sealant over HydroStop® fabric and let dry.
Maintain at least 6” from the center of the lag
bolt that is anchored to the truss in all directions.

11. Install KO Replacement Flashing over Pedestal,


then L-Foot and hardware.
