HPE - Sf000045010en - Us - HP 3PAR StoreServ Storage 'Service Mag Resume Failed With Error' Disk Specified

The document discusses an error encountered during the servicemag resume process for HP 3PAR StoreServ Storage, indicating that a specified disk has not been replaced despite a new disk being installed. The issue arose because the servicemag start -log command was mistakenly run on all disks, leading the system to expect all disks to be replaced. To resolve the issue, the original failed disk should be returned, the new disk dismissed from the configuration, and a full servicemag command executed before finally replacing the failed disk.

Issue
When running the servicemag resume the following error was returned for the servicemag:

"Failed --
Disk specified in the servicemag start -pdid option has not been replaced.
Please replace the correct disk.
servicemag resume 7 6 -- Failed"

In this scenario PD 313 failed and need to be replaced. PD 313 was pulled out of the system and replaced with a new disk.

For some reason the servicemag start -log was run against all the disks in the magazine, probably by mistake.

Cause
Because the servicemag start -log was ran against all disks in the magazine the Inform OS expect all 4 drives to
be replaced. The system relocates all chunkets from the drives because all the pds are included in the servicemag command issued.

(servicemag start -log -pdid 312 313 314 315)

Caution should be observed when running these commands in order to avoid unecessary problems and additional delays in drive

replacement activities.

This behavior is an expected and as designed behavior of the servicemag process.

Resolution
In order to resolve this issue the following actions can be done.
1. Return the original failed disk to the same slot in the magazine.Pull out the new disk.

2. Dismiss the new disk from the PD configuration.

dismisspd <pdid>

3. Run full servicemag on the magazine

servicemag start <cage> <mag>

This process should not take long since the disks in the magazine are already evacuated.

Take note that if the new PD was not dismissed from the PD configuration full servicemag will fail because there are twodisk
configured for the same slot.
4. Once full servicemag completes, replace the failed disk.

5. Run servicemag resume.

been replaced."
