FIRE SAFETY STRATEGIES
Fire Strategy Plans
Fire Strategy plans are generally used by Fire Risk Assessors to create a strategy for a building which will reduce the risks of fire and improve the safety of the occupants. You will
often find fire compartmentation lines drawn on these with specific colours for the number of minutes each compartment wall is. It can also include other fire safety equipment
such as fire doors, fire detection systems and suppression systems if installed.
High Rise Building Plans
Karntek also produce Fire Safety Plans for high rise residential buildings, under Regulation 6 of the Fire Safety Regulations 2022. All our plans are in line with the NFCC Guide for
Premises Information Boxes which is the guidance document specified in Regulation 6.
1. Escape Routes & Stairwells
These are designated pathways for occupants to safely exit the building during a fire.
Stairwells are usually pressurized to prevent smoke from entering and are constructed with fire-resistant
materials.
2. Fire Compartments
These are sections of the building that are separated by fire-resistant walls and floors to prevent the spread
of fire and smoke.
Each compartment contains the fire to a limited area, buying time for evacuation and firefighting efforts.
3. Installation Shafts
These vertical shafts carry essential services such as plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems.
They are enclosed and fire-protected to prevent fire and smoke from traveling between floors.
4. Storage Areas
These are designated storage zones, often at the basement or ground level.
Must follow strict fire safety regulations, such as no flammable materials and appropriate fire suppression
systems.
5. Utility Rooms
These rooms house mechanical and electrical systems (e.g., generators, water pumps).
They must be built with fire-resistant enclosures and include automatic fire suppression.
6. Entryway Area / Foyer
This is the main entrance or lobby where people enter or exit the building.
Needs to remain unobstructed and well-marked for emergency personnel access and safe evacuation.
7. Smoke Extraction Shafts
These are vertical shafts designed to remove smoke from escape routes and other key areas.
Often part of an automatic smoke ventilation system, they ensure clear visibility and breathable air during
evacuation.
