Exercise 3.3
1. Give a parallelogram ABCD . Complete each statement along with the
definition of property used
i AD=
Ans: As the given figure is a parallelogram and we know that that in
parallelogram, the opposite sides are equal to each other, so
AD=BC
ii DAB
Ans: As the given figure is a parallelogram and we know that that in
parallelogram, the opposite angles are equal to each other, so
DCB=DAB
iii OC=
Ans: As the given figure is a parallelogram and we know that that in
parallelogram, diagonals bisect each other, so
OC=OA
iv mDAB+mCDA=
Ans: As the given figure is a parallelogram and we know that that in
parallelogram, the adjacent angles are supplementary to each other, so
Class VIII Maths www.vedantu.com 1
mDAB+mCDA=180o
2. Complete the following parallelograms
i
100o
Ans: We know that in parallelograms adjacent angles are supplementary,
we got
x+100o =180o
x=180o -100o
x=80o
ii
Ans: We know that in parallelograms adjacent angles are supplementary,
we got
y+50o =180o
y=180o -50o
x=130o
Now, we got
y=x=130o , as the opposite angles are equal
Class VIII Maths www.vedantu.com 2
And
z=x=130o , as they are corresponding angles
iii
Ans: From observing the figure, we got
x=90o , as vertically opposite angle
Now, applying angle sum property of triangle, we got
x+y+30o =180o
90o +y+30o =180o
y+120o =180o
y=60o
z=y=60o , as they are alternate interior angles
iv
Ans: From observing the figure, we get
z=80o , as they are corresponding angles
Class VIII Maths www.vedantu.com 3
y=80o , as the opposites angles are equal
As we know adjacent angles are supplementary, we get
x+y=180o
x=180o -80o
x=100o
v
Ans: From the figure, we got that
y=112o , as opposite angles are equal
Now applying angle sum property of triangle, we got,
x+y+40o =180o
x+112o +40o =180o
x=180o -152o
x=28o
And
z=x=28o , as they are alternate interior angles.
3. Can a quadrilateral ABCD be a parallelogram if,
i D+B=180o
Ans: According to the condition given, the quadrilateral may or may not
be a parallelogram.
For a quadrilateral to be a parallelogram, there are some more conditions
are present that is,
Class VIII Maths www.vedantu.com 4
The sum of the adjacent angles should be 180o and opposite angles should
be of same length
If these conditions are also fulfilled, then we can say that quadrilateral is
also a parallelogram.
ii AB=DC=8 cm, AD=4 cm and BC=4.4 cm
Ans: As we know that in parallelogram, the opposite sides are equal
So, according to the given condition, the opposite sides aren’t equal
Therefore, we can’t say that given quadrilateral is a parallelogram.
iii A=70o and C=65o
Ans: As we know that in parallelogram, the opposite angles are equal
So, according to the given condition, the opposite angles aren’t equal
Therefore, we can’t say that given quadrilateral is a parallelogram.
4. Draw a rough figure of a quadrilateral that is not a parallelogram but
has exactly two opposite angles of equal measure.
Ans:
As we can see, we have drawn a quadrilateral ABCD with B and D as
opposite angles which are also equal to each other.
Now, we can also see that the quadrilateral drawn isn’t a parallelogram as in
parallelogram, opposite sides are also equal to each other and we can also see
that the A and C aren’t equal to each other.

5. The measures of two adjacent angles of a parallelogram are in the
ratio 3:2 . Find the measure of each of the angles of the parallelogram.
Ans: Let us consider the two angles be A and B
According to the question, angles are in a ratio 3:2
So, A=3x and B=2x
As we know that the sum of the adjacent angles in a parallelogram is 180o ,
we got
A+B=180o
3x+2x=180o
5x=180o
x=36o
So, we got,
A=C 3x=108o and B=D 2x=72o , as they are opposite angles.
Therefore, the measure of each angles are,
A=108o
B=72o
C=108o
D=72o
6. Two adjacent angles of a parallelogram have equal measure. Find the
measure of each of the angles of the parallelogram.
Ans: As we know that the sum of adjacent angles of parallelogram is 180o ,
we got,
A+B=180o
According to the question, adjacnet angles are of equal measures, we got
A+A=180o
2A=180o
A=90o
Class VIII Maths www.vedantu.com 6
We know that the adjacent angles are of equal measures
Therefore, we got A=B=90o , A=C=90o (opposite angles) and
D=B=90o (opposite angles)
7. The adjacent figure HOPE is a parallelogram. Find the angle
measure x,y and z . State the properties you use to find them.
Ans: Now, observing the figure,
From alternate interior angle, we get y=40o ,
70o =z+40o
From corresponding angles, we get
z=30o
x+ z+40o =180o
And from adjacent pair of angles we get, x+70o =180o
x=180o -70o
x=110o
8. The following figures GUNS and RUNS are parallelograms find x
and y (lengths are in cm)
i.
Class VIII Maths www.vedantu.com 7
Ans: As we know, the opposite sides in a parallelogram are equal to each
other, from this we got,
GU=SN and GS=UN , from the figure we got the length of the sides, so
we get
3y-1=26
3x=18
3y=27 and
x=6
y=9
Therefore, x=6 cm and y=9 cm
ii.
Ans: We know that, in parallelograms, diagonals bisect each other, so we
got
x+y=16
y+7=20
and x+13=16
y=13
x=3
Therefore, x=3 cm and y=13 cm.
9.
In the given figure, both RISK and CLUE are parallelograms. Find the
value of x .
Class VIII Maths www.vedantu.com 8
Ans: As the given figures is a parallelogram and we know that adjacent
angles in parallelograms are supplementary and also opposite angles are
equal.
Now, in parallelogram RISK ,
RKS+ISK=180o
120o +ISK=180o
ISK=60o
We got ISK=60o
Now in parallelogram CLUE ,
ULC+CEU=70o
Applying angle sum property, we get
x+60o +70o =180o
x+130o =180o
x=50o
Therefore, the value of x is 50o .
10. Explain how this figure is a trapezium. Which of its two sides are
parallel?
Ans: We know that for lines to be parallel, the transversal line should be
parallel to given lines in a way in which the sum of the angles on the same
side of transversal is 180o
From the given figure we can see that,
NML+MLK=180o
Therefore, the lines NM and LK are parallel lines,
Class VIII Maths www.vedantu.com 9
Now, we know that for a quadrilateral to be a trapezium, it should have a pair
of parallel lines,
Here we have lines NM and LK are parallel
Therefore, the quadrilateral KLMN is a trapezium.
11. Find mC in the following figure, if AB DC
Ans: It is given that AB DC
We know that the angles on the same side of transversal are supplementary,
so we got
B+C=180o
120o +C=180o
C=60o
Therefore, mC=60o
12. Find the measure of P and S , if SP RQ in the following figure.
(If you find mR , is there more than one method to find mP .)
Class VIII Maths www.vedantu.com 10
Ans: Now, we know that sum of angles on the same side of transversal is
180o ,
From the figure we can say that
P+Q=180o R+S=180o
130o +P=180o and 90o +S=180o
P=50o S=90o
Therefore, the measure of angle mP and mS is 50o and 90o respectively.
There’s one more way to find angle mP , as mR and mQ are given,
We can first find the angle mS and we also know that the sum of the
interior angles is 360 , we can apply angle sum property to find the angle
mP .
