POINTS TO REMBEMBER:
1. Initially, the people of different tribes settled down to practice agriculture in
convenient parts of the valleys. These tribes were called ‘JANA’ (In Sanskrit)
and the place where they settled are called Jana padas.
2. large group of villages and towns were called Mahajan padas.
3. Some archeologists have excavated hundreds of sites in the Ganges Valley
and have tried to know more about the lives of the people of those days.
4. The books during that period were mostly composed by the followers of the
Vedic traditions Buddhists and Jain monks.
5.Some important archeological sites of the time of Mahajan padas: Delhi,
Atranjikhera, Kausambi (Allahabad), Patna, Ayodhya, Rajgir etc.
6. Some important books written during this period: Dharma sutras,
Dighanikaya, Majjhimanikaya, Herodotus History and Strabo etc.
7. Bimbi Sara and his son Ajatashatru were early kings, who built the power of
Magadha.
