I.

Important Guidelines

i. Please read the instructions given in the brochure carefully before filling up the
application form.
ii. Application Form & Information Brochure are available on the Institute website
www.iiitp.ac.in
iii. Interested candidates meeting the eligibility criteria are invited to submit a hard copy of
the fully filled application form, along with their latest passport-size photograph and
self-attested copies of educational certificates, date of birth proof, relevant experience
documents, caste certificate (if applicable), and any requisite fees. All submissions must
reach the designated address no later than April 15, 2025. The prescribed application
form, duly completed and signed, along with the fees and enclosures (self-attested
photocopies of all mentioned documents), should be dispatched via Speed/Registered
Post, Courier, or Hand Delivery to the following address:

iv. All applications which are not in prescribed form / without relevant supporting
enclosures / received after the last date / without application fees will be out rightly
rejected. No correspondence shall be entertained in this regard. Interim correspondence
will also not be entertained or replied to.
v. The Institute will not be responsible under any circumstances for any sort of postal
delay/loss of the application form. A non - refundable processing fee of Rs. 590/- (for
GEN/OBC/EWS) and Rs. 295/- (for SC/ST/PwD) are required to be paid online directly
to:

vi. The employed candidates are required to submit the No Objection Certificate (NOC)
from the respective organization as per Annexure-I.
vii. Final Year appeared candidates are also eligible to apply under suitable category
provided that the candidate must submit the provisional degree on declaration of
results.
viii. Selection of candidates will be done on the basis of written test and/or Interview.
NoTA/DA will be paid for attending the written test and/or interview.
ix. Shortlisted candidates should bring the following documents at the time of admission:
a. Photo ID Card
b. Hard copy of the application form submitted
c. Receipt of the processing fee
d. Thesis / dissertation / report / publications
e. Copy of certificates and mark-sheets along with originals and
f. Two passport size photographs

II. About the Institute


Indian Institute of Information Technology Pune (IIIT Pune), is an Institute of National
Importance set up under Act of Parliament (2017), with a view to develop new knowledge
in information technology and to provide manpower of global standards for the
information technology industry. IIIT Pune was established by Ministry of Human
Resource Development, Govt. of India in 2016 on not-for-profit basis in public-private
partnership (PPP) with Government of Maharashtra and industry partners. The Institute
offers B.Tech and M.Tech programmes in Electronics & Communication Engineering
(ECE) and Computer Science & Engineering (CSE) and Ph.D. programmes in CSE, ECE,
and Applied Science & Humanities.
The permanent campus of the Institute is being developed on a 100-acre land in the serene
surroundings of village Nanoli situated on the banks of Indrayani River in Pune district.
Presently, IIIT Pune is operating from the temporary campus at Ambegaon Budruk,
Sinhagad Institute Road, Pune 411041. The temporary campus of IIIT Pune is at a
distance of 13 km from Pune Railway Station, 20 km from Pune Airport. IIIT Pune is a
residential Institution and provides residential facilities to students on availability basis.

III. Ph.D. Programmes:

(A) Institute PhD Scheme:


The Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) Programme is aimed at assisting students in acquiring
proficiency in their chosen area of research. The academic programme leading to the
Ph.D. degree is broad-based and involves a course credit requirement and a research
thesis submission. The IIIT Pune offers a diverse range of research areas available for

IV. Admission Procedure
Ph.D. candidates will be selected on the basis of written and/or interview. Merely
satisfying the general eligibility criterion as well as criterion set for each admission
category does not guarantee for being called for written test and/or interview.
Depending on the number of applications received and considering the constraints of time
and other resources for conducting written test and/or interview, the academic units may
put additional academic performance-based shortlisting criterion. No TA/DA will be paid
for attending the written test and/or interview. The procedure will be as follows.
Eligible candidates are required to appear for the written test and/or Interview. Dates and
timing will be communicated to the eligible candidates.

Syllabus for the Written test: The question paper for written test shall be based on
GATE/ NTA NET Syllabus for respective categories as follows (including but not limited
to)

For Electronics and Communication Engineering Branch: Engineering Mathematics,


Networks, Signals and Systems, Electronic Devices, Analog Circuits, Digital Circuits,
Control Systems, Communications, Electromagnetics.

For Computer Science and Engineering Branch: Engineering Mathematics, Digital


Logic, Computer Organization and Architecture, Programming and Data Structures,
Algorithms, Theory of Computation, Compiler Design, Operating System, Databases,
Computer Networks, Software Engineering

For Applied Mathematics: Abstract and Linear algebra, Real analysis & Complex analysis,
Differential equations: ODE & PDE, Discrete mathematics, Probability theory, Topology

For Humanities and Social Sciences: British Literature, American Literature, European
Literature, Postcolonial Literature, Indian Writing in English, Literary Criticism, Literary
Theory, Literary Terms and Devices, Literary Movements, Language and Pedagogy,
Linguistics, Cultural Studies and Research Methodology.

V. Registration, Coursework and other requirements


The details regarding coursework, duration of program, theses etc. are provided in Ph.D.
Ordinances and Regulations on the institute website under Academics tab on the Home
page.
VI. Fee Structure
Fee Structure for Ph.D. for academic year 2025-26 (July 2025 Batch)

Note: The fee structure is tentative, and is subject to revision as per the
recommendationof Board of Governors. Please refer the institute website for updated fee
structure.

Statement of Purpose (SOP) is your opportunity to share with the admission committee your

same. Briefly describe past project/ research work done by you. Restrict yourself to 500 - 600
words. The personal SOP will aid the admission committee in evaluating your application.
