(Common to EPE, EPS, PS, PE, PID, PEED and PED)
(For students admitted in 2017 only)

Time: 3 hours Max. Marks: 60

Answer all the questions
*****
1 Define learning rule. Demonstrate using an example to conclude the comparison between the
supervised and unsupervised learning algorithm.
OR
2 What is meant by data pre processing? Explain about principal component analysis.

3 (a) Describe what you know about the structure of a biological neuron and learning in biological
systems.
(b) Discuss the McCulloch-Pitt model of a biological neuron. Is it a linear or non-linear system?
Explain your answer. What about biological neurons?
OR
4 (a) Explain why a single layer perceptron cannot solve the XOR problem. Use an X1 vs X2 plot to
show that a straight line cannot separate the XNOR states. List the several aspects to keep in
mind when selecting an appropriate neural network structure.
(b) Using McCulloch Pitts implement the following logic functions:
(i) Ex-OR gate. (ii) Ex-NOR gate. (iii) AND gate. (iv) NAND gate.

5 What are the basic operators of genetic algorithm? Explain the operational procedure of genetic
algorithm.
OR
6 What are the mutations in genetic algorithm? Explain the generational cycle in genetic
algorithm.

7 (a) What is fuzzy set theory? Explain different fuzzy sets and its operations.
(b) Define fuzzy logic and its importance in our daily life. What is role of crisp sets in fuzzy logic?
OR

5 7 9 11 12
0.3 0 1 0.5 0
Short = + + + +
0 30 60 90 120
