The Passion of Christ from New Jerusalem

PROLOGUE

(Moses and Elijah appear transfigured)

MOSES: In the beginning was the word, and the word was God. And the word was with God. He
In the beginning, there was God.

ELIAS: All things were made by him, and nothing that was made was made without him.

In him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness,
and the darkness did not comprehend it

ELIAS: It was the true light, which enlightens every man that comes into this world. It was in the
world, and the world was made by him and the world did not know him. He came to what was his and the
they did not receive him

MOSES: But to all who received him, and to all who believe in his name, he gave the
power to become the Sons of God, who were not born of blood, nor of the desire of
meat, not of man's will, but by the grace of God.

And the Word became flesh and dwelled among us.

MOSES: And we saw his glory, the glory of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and
true.

(This prologue is a reference to the beginning of the Gospel of John)

SCENE 1: TEMPTATION IN THE DESERT

(Jesus is in the desert being tempted by the devil)

DEMON: Jesus? Jesus of Nazareth?

DEMON: He has been praying for forty days.

DEMON: He has been fasting for forty days.

DEMON: Should he be hungry? Should we feed him?

DEMON: If you are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.

JESUS: It is written. Man shall not live by bread alone.

man, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.
DEMON: If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down from here, for it is written: He commanded the
His angels will take care of you and they will hold you in their hands so that you do not stumble with your foot.
on the stone.

JESUS: It has also been said: you shall not test the Lord your God.

DEMON: Behold the world there, resplendent with gold and marble is Rome, from there Tiberius
dominates the earth, over the ashes of the conquered nations the Caesars built this
immense empire. It was hatred that gave this to Rome, for it is only through hatred that one conquers and
build.

DEMON: It brings together the hatred of those who hate because they were born blind, lopsided and
distant.

DEMON: It gathers the hatred of those who hate because they were born full of diseases and
covered in misery.

DEMON: Joins the hatred of those who hate because they suffer from hunger and thirst.

DEMON: Combines the hatred rising in the eyes of the rebellious enslaved and those who
they suffer injustices and inequities.

DEMON: It also takes your body and your soul and fills them with hatred to the brink of
madness.

DEMON: Then take this sea of hatred and sweep the face of the earth with it.

DEMON: Ask me for this hatred and I will give it to you.

DEMON: With him you will have power, with power you will have the world.

DEMON: I will give you many things if you worship me, everything will be yours.

JESUS: Get away from me, Satan, for it is written: You shall worship the Lord your God, and only Him.
he will serve.

DEMON: So you are expelling me?

Demon: Listen Jesus! You glorify yourself with the name of Jews, judging to be the light of those who...
they wander in darkness, but there you and your people are, waiting for a messiah for 500 years.

DEMON: Here is whom you expel, who has the power to make you greater than
Moses who seeks the throne of David with a group of slaves from a nation.

DEMON: Here is the one you expel, who has the power to give you a throne greater than
O Tiberius.
Demon: Woe to you, Jesus of Nazareth.

Demon: Woe to you who will have your body shattered like a clay vase.

Demon: Woe to you, Jesus, Carpenter of Nazareth.

DEMON: Woe to you who will be despised as the last of men, a man of sorrows,
man wounded by God and Humiliated.

Demon: Woe to you Jesus, Carpenter of Nazareth.

Demon: Woe to you who will have your soul sad until death.

SCENE 2: Sermon on the Mount

JESUS: The Spirit of the Lord rests upon me, he has anointed me to proclaim the good news to the
the poor. He sent me to preach freedom to the enslaved, to give sight to the blind
and to bring redemption to the oppressed to attribute the denial of the Lord's grace.

Pedro, André, Tiago, João. You are the chosen ones.

PEDRO: I am no more than a poor man burdened with sins.

JESUS: I will make you fishers of men. Philip, Bartholomew, Thomas, Matthew, James
son of Alphaeus, Thaddeus, Simon, Judas.

CEGOS: Jesus, son of David, give us your light.

JESUS: Blessed are you who are poor, yours is the kingdom of God.
Blessed are you who hunger, you shall be satisfied.
Blessed are you who now weep, for you will be comforted.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for justice, for you will be justified.
Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.
Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.
Blessed are the merciful because
they will attain mercy.
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God.

You are the salt of the earth, you are the light of the world. But woe to you who are rich, already
woe to you who are full now, for you shall be hungry. Woe to you who
now you ride, you must walk in mourning and cry. They taught you what was said: you shall love your

pray for those who slander you.

BEGGAR: What good is forgiveness if everyone condemns me?

JESUS: It is I who tell you! Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you,
then your reward will be great and you will be a son of the Most High. He who causes his to be born

Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven.

BEGGAR: From the ancients, what we heard was: an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.

JESUS: You know the commandments: you shall not kill, you shall not steal, you shall not bear false witness
testimony, you shall not commit adultery, honor your father and mother. And I say more, that the rich

It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter heaven.

JESUS: Do not worry about what you will eat, drink, or wear. It is not worth it.

They do not sow, nor do they reap in barns, your heavenly Father feeds them.

fire, how much more to you, men without faith? Do not be anxious about tomorrow,
Tomorrow will take care of itself.

PEDRO: Master, when will the kingdom of God come?

JESUS: The kingdom of God is within you.

Son of David, have mercy on us.

CEGOS: Jesus, son of David, heals our ailments.

WOMAN: Let us pass, we want to speak with the master, we want to speak with the master,
we want to speak with the master.

PEDRO: Not now, he is teaching.

WOMAN: Please, it's so my little boy can see you.

JESUS: Let the children come to me. Do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God.
Unless you become like children, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever
to welcome in the name of a child is to welcome me. But woe to those who

CEGOS: Son of David heals our ailments.

Have mercy on me, son of David.

JESUS: What do you want me to do for you?

CEGOS: Make our eyes open, Lord!

CEGOS: Lord, give us your light, my eyes are dead.

JESUS: Do you believe that I can do this?

CEGOS: To you, everything is possible!

JESUS: Let it be done according to your faith.

(Jesus heals the blind)

I see you Lord, I see you Lord.

CEGOS: I see you, Master! I see you, Lord.

CEGOS: Blessed be the messiah of Galilee, blessed be!

JESUS: I glorify You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth. Because You have hidden these things from
wise and revealed them to the simple. Come to me all you who are weary and
oppressed. Learn from me for I am gentle and humble in heart and you will find rest
for your souls, for my doctrine is light and my law is gentle.

PEDRO: Master, we taught how to pray, just as John the Baptist taught his disciples.

JESUS: This is how you should pray:

Our Father who art in heaven. Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come to us. Be
your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and
forgive us our offenses, as we forgive those who offend us and do not
lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from all evil.

Informant: Master! Master! Jesus! Master! Master! Jesus! Jesus! Master! Go away and withdraw
from here because Herod wants to kill you.

JESUS: Go and tell Herod that I am casting out demons and healing today and
tomorrow is only the third day I will finish, but today tomorrow and the day after tomorrow I have to
walk. Because they do not prove that the prophet perishes outside of Jerusalem.

INFORMANT: João was arrested.

PEDRO: João arrested? These Roman dogs!

IT WAS NOT ROME, IT WAS HEROD.

PEDRO: Damned. And what does the people say, what does the people do? João needs to be freed.
INFORMANT: When the swords are in the hands of Herod's soldiers, what can
make the people? When the spears are in the hands of the Roman legionaries, what can
make the people? Come here! Cast your eyes to the horizon, do you see any tree? Those
shadows in the distance seem like trees, because the trees are planted in the ground, but
they are crosses. Before thousands of trees, now crosses, one cross for each man who
decided to speak or act.

PEDRO: We must speak until the last tree is turned into a cross. There is more.
men under the yoke of Rome, what trees on the mountains of Galilee.

JESUS: Let's go to Jerusalem!

PEDRO: Let's go too, to die with him!

JESUS: Let's go to Jerusalem!

(Jesus and a crowd are heading towards Jerusalem)

SCENE 3: THE TEMPLE

(When the crowd arrives at the temple, we see that the place is infested with
merchants)

CROWD: Blessed is the king of Israel! Glory in the highest! Blessed is the Father of David
Let him underestimate! Blessed is Israel!

JESUS: Get these things out of here! Is it not written that my house is a house of prayer? You
but you have made it a den of thieves.

CAIAPHAS: With what authority do you act this way?

JESUS: Destroy this temple, and in three days I will rebuild it.

CAIFÁS: It took forty-six years to build this temple, and you intend to rebuild it.
in three days?

VENDILHÕES: This is truly the prophet who was meant to come into the world!

ANÁS: We know that you are a friend of the truth. What is your opinion? Is it fair to pay taxes to
Cesar?

CAIAPHAS: Should we pay, or should we not pay the taxes to Caesar?

JESUS: Why do you tempt me? Show me the coin for the tribute.
CAIAPHAS: Here is the denarius.

JESUS: Whose image and inscription is this?

FROM Caesar.

JESUS: Give to Caesar what is Caesar's and to God what is God's.

CAIFÁS: After all, who is this?

JESUS: I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness but will have the light of life.

ANAS: Until when will you keep us in uncertainty? If you are the Christ, why do you not say so?
openly.

JESUS: I have already told you and you did not believe me.

ANAS: You are an impostor, who wears the coarse mantle of the prophets to prophesy the
lie.

CAIAPHAS: Let's stone him!

JESUS: Why do you want to stone me?

CAIAPHAS: Because you are a violator of the Sabbath!

ANÁS: Because you being a man makes you God!

JESUS: I am the son of God.

ANÁS: Keep blaspheming.

PEOPLE: Blaspheme! He's blaspheming! He is blaspheming more and more.

And it's our honor!

PHARISEE: This woman was caught in adultery, for Caesar commanded that she
they would stone these women. And what do you say?

PEOPLE: Let's stone her! Let's stone her! Let's stone her!

AND THE PRINCE: If you say nothing, we will uphold the law. And we have chosen you to throw the first one.
stone.

PHARISEE: What do you decide?

JESUS: Let the one who is without sin cast the first stone! Woman, where are those who...
they accused you, no one condemned you.
ADULTERATE: No one, Sir!

JESUS: Neither will I condemn you. Go and sin no more! Woe to you, Scribes and Pharisees,
Hypocrites! You are like whitewashed tombs, which outwardly appear beautiful,
but inside they are filled with corpses and all kinds of decay.

You also appear righteous in the eyes of men, but inside you are full of.
thefts and perversions.

CAIAPHAS: With these words, they also offend us, teachers of the law!

JESUS: Woe to you also, teachers of the law. For you burden men with loads
unbearable, when you yourselves do not even touch these burdens with a finger.

CAIFAS: This language is harsh. Who can hear it?

JESUS: This scandalizes you. And when you see the Son of Man ascending to where he was
before. Jerusalem! Jerusalem, who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to you.
Behold, your house will be left desolate, for I declare to you that you will not see me again until the day...
that all will say, blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!

ANÁS: This man needs to be detained immediately.

Caiaphas: Not now.

PEDRO: Let's get out of here, you have provoked the wrath of the Princes and Priests.

JESUS: Do you think that I came to bring peace to the earth? I tell you, but a sword.
there will be discord between each cycle in which they find themselves in the same house, I came to
to set fire to the earth and how I wish it would burn.

ANAS: Blasphemies, let's gather the council.

JESUS: Oh Jerusalem, if only you knew this day that is offered to you, what you
I could bring you peace, but now, these things are hidden from your eyes. They will come.
days when your enemies will surround you with trenches and will charge against you and attack
from all sides. They will bring you down and your children and throughout your area not
there will be stone upon stone. Because you did not know the time when you were visited.

(Jesus left the temple accompanied by his disciples)

SCENE 4: THE SANHEDRIN

(The Pharisees gather in a council to debate about Jesus)

CAIAPHAS: We have to make a decision. As you saw, Jesus of Nazareth is in
Jerusalem.

He must be arrested and convicted. His speeches influence the popular imagination.

NICODEMUS: Does our law condemn a man before hearing him?

CAIAPHAS: Are you also a Galilean?

NICODEMUS: No. But the man you want to arrest is considered the prophet by the people!

ANAS: Examine the scriptures! You will see that no prophet arises from Galilee.

JOSEPH OF ARIMATHAEA: Great crowds follow him, coming from Idumea, from all Judea,
from Jerusalem and the Jordan Law.

PHARISEE: It's a fraud!

NICODEMOS: Also from the regions of Tyre and Sidon, enormous masses flow since
Have you heard about the miracles he performs.

CAIFÁS: You were also seduced, Nicodemus? And you too, Joseph of Arimathea? There is
Perhaps among the leaders and the Pharisees, there are those who believe in him? Huge crowds! It's just that
plebe that understands nothing of the law.

THE PRINCE: He subverts the law and customs!

PHARISEE: He is a troublemaker and a disruptor of public order!

CAIFÁS: Did you see him entering the city? His insolence and boldness in front of the rabble? Arguing
In the temple! Tearing down tables and stalls, attacking people and dealing blows!

PHARISEE: Attacking our honor and violating consciences!

THE PRINCE: Attacking the Jewish law!

ANAS: Attacking the temple and Caesar!

JOSEPH OF ARIMATHEA: And is this why you will arrest him and condemn him?

PHARISEE: To arrest him, yes. But not on the day of the feast, so that it does not stir up the people.
people.

CAIFÁS: Let it be on the day of the feast! So that it serves as an example to the people. It is necessary.
let him die! Do you not see how much it is in your interest that only one man dies and
that the nation does not perish?
NICODEMUS: Of course! When Herod saw that the people were gathering around John,
Batista, the landlord feared that he would provoke the murky ones to revolt. A strike of the sword and a
head spinning. The kingdom, the nation, and the consciousness were saved.

JOSEPH OF ARIMATHAEA: You do not understand any of this!

ANÁS: What strange prodigy is this... that falls upon the nation causing it to perish
wisdom of their wise ones and to vanish the understanding of their prudent.
Can't you sense what this noise of a bustling city means? You don't enter into
your noses the airs and omens that herald this storm of hatred? Do you not see
fugitive flashes and blades already drawn in the anxious ambush of a throat to warm
the gelid acid?

Now you are understanding why there is fear in your silence! You know which blood will wash...
the stones? Jewish blood!
Your blood shed by Jews and Romans, if the men of Jesus of Nazareth are at
to incite the whole people. Have you forgotten what happened when the Jews rebelled against
Arquelão? For I remind you: Three thousand men died in the halls of that temple! And
then, instead of freedom, came Romans, as before had seen Assyrians, Persians, and others
invaders. You can hold in your hands and shove into your hearts all hatred and
misery of a nation spat on and slapped?

So let Jesus of Nazareth and his disciples go free, that, through their agitation, they may decide.
Our destiny! Go you also after it! Join the ranks of the revolt!

JOSEPH OF ARIMATHEA: No one can do what he does, if God is not with him!

PHARISEE: If God is with him, who is with us?

CAIAPHAS: Jesus of Nazareth must be destroyed! Enough is enough! Because he is no longer satisfied.
but in enforcing a new law, and if it took on power and infringed the laws and the causes! Not
we will allow Jesus to proceed, he must be eliminated, for the peace of the law and
security of order.

(Judas Iscariot appears.)

How dare you invade the council?

JUDAS: It's about the Nazarene.

CAIFÁS: Who are you?

JUDAS: I am Judas Iscariot, your disciple. I know that you want to arrest him.

CAIFÁS: Yes. And to all who accompany him.

ANAS: Judas Iscariot, disciple of Jesus of Nazareth.

JUDAS: How much will you give me? To betray Jesus.

JOSEPH OF ARIMATHEA: Are you going to betray Jesus of Nazareth?

CAIFÁS: How much do you want?

JUDAS: How much will you give me?

Caiaphas: Thirty pieces of silver.

JOSEPH OF ARIMATHEA: Deliver Jesus? Thirty pieces of silver?

CAIFÁS: Is it little?

JUDAS: Well, if it's fair, give me the reward, otherwise...

CAIAPHAS: You will have your reward!

ANAS: When will we catch him?

JUDAS: Tonight. Tonight, in the garden where everyone goes to sleep.

ANÁS: Take it!

(hands over the coins to Judas)

Thirty coins. The soldiers will be there tonight.

JOSÉ OF ARIMATHAEA: Judas, for the price of a worthless slave, you betray your master.

NICODEMUS: Judas, your feet run towards evil and rush to shed blood.
What?

JUDAS: Because disillusionment has entered my heart.

SCENE 5: LAST SUPPER

Jesus is sitting with his disciples at dinner

JESUS: I have eagerly desired to eat this Passover with you, because not anymore.
I will eat another before the perfect Easter, the one that will be celebrated in the kingdom of God.

PEDRO: We should have left the city.

JOÃO: Sir, we have left Jerusalem.

PEDRO: Some doors are still open, we can leave without being seen.
JOÃO: This way they won't be able to capture you.

PEDRO: We will all protect you.

(Judas arrives)

JESUS: Truly I tell you, one of you will betray me.

(The disciples find it strange)

US?

One of ours?

JOÃO: Here where there is only love for you, there cannot be the bitterness of the traitor.

JESUS: One of you who is eating now with me will betray me. This night all of you
you will scandalize, for it is written:

I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered. But after I have risen, I will go ahead.
from you to Galilee.

PEDRO: Even though everyone is scandalized by you, I will not be scandalized.

JESUS: Peter, Simon Peter, Satan has asked to sift you as wheat.

brothers.

PEDRO: Even if I have to die with you, I will not deny you.

JESUS: Ah Peter, truly I tell you that tonight, before the rooster crows twice
three times you will have denied me.

PEDRO: But I am ready to go with you to prison and to death.

JESUS: The Son of Man goes to death as it was written, but woe to him who...
it would have been better for that man not to have been born.

PETER: Will it be me, Lord?

JOÃO: Who is it?

JESUS: He is the one to whom I will give a piece of soaked bread.

Take, eat, this is my body.

Is it me, by any chance?

JESUS: You said it. You must know what you have to do, do it quickly.

Take all and drink, this is the chalice of my blood of the new and eternal covenant which will be
poured out for you and for all for the forgiveness of sins, do this in remembrance of me.

(Judas said)

I will not be with you for much longer.

JOÃO: Sir, where are you going?

JESUS: I will prepare a place for you, after I have gone and prepared it for you.
place I will live again and I will take you with me. So that where I am, you may also be.
with me. And you know where I am going and you know the way.

PETER: Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?

JESUS: I am the way, the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father except through me.
Believe in my word; he who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him.
I will also team up and manifest to him.

JOÃO: Why should we express ourselves to ourselves and not to the world?

JESUS: If you were of the world, the world would love what is its own, but you are not of the world.
I chose you out of the world. That is why the world hates you. And if the world...

SCENE 6: Garden of Olives

(Jesus gathers his disciples to rest in the Garden of Olives)

JESUS: John Peter, Thiago. Stay here and watch with me. Pray also so that you do not fall into temptation.

My Father, if it is possible, take this cup away from me.

JESUS: Your will be done.

DEMON: Your will be done.

(The demon disappears. Meanwhile, Judas Iscariot appears with a troop of

soldiers

JESUS: Rise up, let's go!

DISCIPLES: Let's go! Let's go!

JUDAS: God save you, master!

JESUS: Friend? What did you come for?

(Judas kisses the face of Jesus)

Judas, with a kiss, betrays the son of man.

Whom are you looking for?

Soldier: To Jesus of Nazareth.

JESUS: It's me.

(The soldiers are startled)

Whom do you seek?

Soldier: To Jesus of Nazareth.

JESUS: I already told you that it is I; if you are looking for me, let these go.

PEDRO: No one will touch the Master!

(Pedro, with a sword, cuts off a soldier's ear)

SOLDIER: AHH!

JESUS: Peter, put away your sword, for all who draw the sword will die by the sword.

(Jesus is arrested and taken to Herod where he will be questioned)

SCENE 7: The Palace of Herod

SUBJECT: Let's say that as good disciples of Horace: It is time to drink and of
dances and the pleasure of enjoyment.

HEROD: Let's say that as good sons of Satan: let's eat and drink, for
Tomorrow we will die.

(The party continues. Meanwhile, the Pharisees and Jesus arrive at the Palace)

CAIAPHAS: Herod, Pilate sends you Jesus of Nazareth.

HEROD: I see! It looks like by your company you intend to interrupt me

moments of pleasure with my friends.

ANAS: It is to Pilate that you owe the interruption of your "chores".

HEROD: Why me? Why are you here with this dirty Galilean? Have you forgotten that you have
the highest court of the Jews?

(For Jesus)
Jesus of Nazareth... So it is you...

CAIAPHAS: Pilate was informed that this man is Galilean. Send him so that you may judge him,
for this is your domain. It was there that you began to preach your doctrines

HEROD: And what does he preach? Can you inform your beloved king?

HE'S a troublemaker!

HEROD: I asked what he preaches.

SUBJECT: Let men love one another.

HEROD: What? Please repeat.

Subject: That men love one another.

(Everyone laughs and mocks Jesus)

HEROD: If only they were: 'Let men love other men's women.'

(Herod and everyone in the Palace laugh)

What else? What does he preach?

SUBJECT: That the rich should sell what they have, distribute it to the poor, and seek the
path to heaven.

Herod reigns

HEROD: But he has a fertile imagination and a delightful doctrine!

Look at my sky, and god knows how much this costs me!

CAIFÁS: So you find delightful the doctrine that has already dragged thousands of men to the call of

ANAS: He not only mocks your power but also despises you!

HEROD: Who are you, after all? God or the devil?

(Jesus does not respond)

CAIFAS: Let him go, Herod. And you will see!

HEROD: Which of the two is within you?

AND THE PRINCE: Let him go, Herod, and you will see the demon in his magic!
HEROD: Magic? Is it true that you raised a dead person… You are more powerful than your

SCENE 8: PILATE'S FORUM

Caiaphas: Pilate, Herod returns Jesus of Nazareth to you!

ANAS: He said that you judge him, that is your mission.

PILATE: You brought this man to me under the accusation of inciting rebellion. How a
stirrer and disruptor of public order. I interrogated in your presence and found nothing.
no fault in the crimes of which you accuse them.

ANÁS: This is absurd!

PILATE: Neither Herod, nor do you see anything against him that would make him deserving of this.
death.

CAIAPHAS: But this is an irresponsibility!

PILATE: Therefore I will give you freedom!

ANAS: You are going to release a criminal, whom we bring here for you to condemn.

CAIAPHAS: A man submitted to our council is considered guilty of death.

ANÁS: This man is sentenced to death!

(Asking Jesus)
PILATE: Is it true that you are the king of the Jews?

JESUS: You said, yes I am King. For this I was born and came into the world, to bear witness.
Of the truth. Every man who loves the truth listens to my voice.

PILATE: And what is truth? Whose truth is it? Yours? You who claim to be king, what do you say?

ANÁS: You publicly zombify us, Pilate.

PILATE: If he is not mad, then where does all the madness come from that made you invade everything?
The courtyard and that with you already climbs these stairs, does the madness inside you come to mind?

CAIAPHAS: Besides the ridiculous, now you also insult us!

ANÁS: This man is sentenced to death!

PILATE: According to tradition, during Passover I always release a prisoner.

In our prisons is Barabbas imprisoned. Whom do you want me to release, Jesus?

from Nazareth or the murderer Barabbas?

ANÁS: Barabbas?

PILATE: Or do you want blood only.

ANAS: We have nothing to do with Barabbas, it's about this one.

PILATE: I could give you better blood of a troublemaker than this.

(The people ask for Barabbas)

PRINCE: Release Barabbas!

PILATE: Barabbas?

Anás: Death to Jesus!

Release Barabbas!

ANÁS: Barrabás!

PILATE: What shall I do with this one whom you call King of the Jews?

ANÁS: The death!

Death to the Nazarene!

PILATE: I will punish him and set him free, scourge Jesus of Nazareth!

(Jesus is whipped and placed a crown of thorns on his head)

Behold, I present to you Jesus of Nazareth, behold the man!

ANAS: Crucify him!

CAIAPHAS: Death!

PILATE: Take him and crucify him yourselves!

ANAS: Pilate knows that the right to 40 years after the death has been taken from us.

CAIFÁS: We have a law, and according to the law, he must die!

ANAS: He must die because he made himself the Son of God.

CAIAPHAS: Says he is Christ, the Messiah.

PILATE: Does he say that? Where are you from? Who are you? Serious accusations are raised against...
You, ask for your life and you condemn me and say nothing? Then you do not know that I have power.
For I have the power to crucify you and to give you freedom?

JESUS: You would have no power over me if it had not been given to you from above; therefore, greater.
the sin belongs to the one who delivered me to you.

PILATE: Bring Barrabas. Behold, I fulfill my word, according to your desire.

Barrabás is free.

People: Long live Barrabás!

PILATE: Now that he has been punished, I will also release Jesus of Nazareth.

CAIAPHAS: If you release this man, you are not a friend of Caesar.

ANAS: Every man who becomes a king is against Caesar.

And you intend to release him instead of condemning him?

CAIAPHAS: Do you want to be accused of treason as well?

PILATES: Enough! I just had the feeling that you seem to have forgotten about the
type of authority to which you are addressing. Inexplicably slipped from your memory
that this authority represents Rome. I am the one who decides to whom, when, and how it should be.

bad blooms. By the way, what do you say?
AND THE PRINCE: You said that you represent Rome.

PILATE: And you, Caiaphas, what do you say?

CAIAPHAS: That only you can kill.

PILATE: Are you Anas?

ANAS: I intended to say. You Pilate are the one who seems to have forgotten the type of authorities to
which are you subordinate to.

Did you escape your memory that this authority is called Tiberius? And you know well the pride.
and the violence of Tiberius.

PILATE: And you threaten me with that?

ANÁS: It is you who exposes yourself to her.

AND THE PRINCE: Tiberius needs a governor in Judea and that is now you. Few
they can force Tiberius that this governor must essentially remain.

ANAS: Pilate, however, many can insist that Tiberius remove him.

PILATES: And you for example.

ANAS: Herod for sure.

PILATE: And Annas for sure and Caiaphas for sure, and all of you can of course, do with
that Tiberius remove Pilate from the Governorship of Judea, but what you cannot avoid is that the

ANAS: We have no other God but the God of Moses.
