Number Series
A number series, also known as a numerical series or sequence,
is a set of numbers arranged in a specific order following a
particular pattern or rule. Each number in the series is called a
term, and the order of the terms is crucial as it defines the
pattern. The pattern can be based on arithmetic progression,
geometric progression, or any other mathematical relationship.
Types of Number Series
•Series with increasing difference
•Series with a constant difference
•Series with decreasing difference
•Combination of different operations, like ‘+’ and ‘-’ together, etc.
•Perfect squares and cubes of numbers’ series
•Miscellaneous

Letter or Alphabet Series
1) What is the next letter in the series C, G, K, O, _______?

a) R

b) T

c) Q

d) S

Answer: d) S

Explanation: C = 3, F = 7, J = 11, N = 15 . Here the difference between the

letters is 4. So the answer is 15 + 4 = 19, which is S. (refer to the table above).

Alpha Numeric Series
An alphanumeric series is a sequence that combines
alphabetic characters (letters) and numeric characters
(numbers) in a specific pattern.

b) K-11, M-13
c) O-15, X-24
d) M-18, K-14
Answer: (b)
In this series, every letter is given its alphabetical position number and one letter is
skipped in between each term.
Hence, the missing terms are K - 11 and M - 13.

b) L-12, M-14
c) L-12, N-14
d) K-12, M-14
Answer: (c)
The letters in the series are alternate and the numbers indicate their position in
the English alphabet from the beginning.
6) A curious pattern of letters and numbers emerges in the following series. Identify
the missing term?
A1, C4, F9, J16, ?
Ans: D) P25
A)O25
The alphabetical sequence progresses as A, C, F, J, …
B) M25 A (+2) → C (+3) → F (+4) → J (+5).
The numerical sequence is 1, 4, 9, 16 (perfect squares of
consecutive integers).
C) N25
Next alphabet: J (+6) = P.
Next square: 16+22=25
D) P 25
7) Observe the following combination of letters and numbers. What comes
next in the sequence?
A3C, B5E, D9G, G17I, ?

A)K25K Ans: B) K33K

Letter sequence: A (+1) → B (+2) → D (+3) → G

B) K33K
(+4). Next: G (+5) = K.
C) J33K Number sequence: 3,5,9,17 (doubling the difference:
+2,+4,+8 ). Next: 17+16=33
D) J25L
Last letter sequence: C (+2) → E (+2) → G (+2) → I
(+2). Next: I (+2) = K.
