A IR Q UALITY I NDEX (AQI)
C ALCULATION
The Air Quality Index is based on
measurement of particulate matter
(PM2.5 and PM10), Ozone (O3),
Nitrogen Dioxide (NO2), Sulfur
Dioxide (SO2) and Carbon Monoxide
(CO) emissions. Most of the stations
on the map are monitoring both
PM2.5 and PM10 data, but there are
few exceptions where only PM10 is
available.
All measurements are based on
hourly readings: For instance, an AQI
reported at 8AM means that the
measurement was done from 7AM to
8AM.

M ONITORING S TATION ?
The GAIA air quality monitoring
stations are using high-tech laser
particle sensors to measure in real-
time PM2.5 pollution, which is one of
the most harmful air pollutants.
Very easy to set up, they only require
a WIFI access point and a USB power
supply. Once connected, air pollution
levels are reported instantaneously
and in real-time on our maps

is based on the latest US EPA
standard, using the Instant Cast
reporting formula.
