LISTECH Licence Server Guide
Introduction
The LISTECH Licence Server is a key part of LISTECH Access Anywhere licensing. It is the
component that manages the licences and allows Neo and LISCAD to lease seats from the licences
it hosts.
The Licence Server runs as a Windows service, so once installed, there is no need to be signed
into the computer for it to work.
Requirements
A physical or virtual computer running Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2, or later. This
computer hosts the Licence Server and should always remain on.
Administrative rights to the computer to be able to install the Licence Server software.
Permanent connection to your LAN and the Internet (isolated network licences excepted).
An Activation Code for at least one Network Node licence.
For client computers to be able to lease seats from the Licence Server via the Internet, you
need a reliable Internet connection and an Internet resolvable host name or static IP
address. Your modem, router, or firewall needs to be configured to allow the required
licence traffic to flow between the Licence Server and client computers.
A client computer running Neo December 2020 release or later, or LISCAD 2021 or later.
Installation
The setup application (LtLicenceServerSetup.exe) installs the LISTECH Update service and the
LISTECH Licence Server onto the computer. The Licence Server is automatically configured to use
port 8085.
To install the software:
1. Log on as an administrator to the computer that will run the Licence Server software.
2. Download the latest Licence Server installation package via the following link:
https://portal.listech.com/downloads/licenceserver/LtLicenceServerSetup.exe
3. Run the Licence Server setup application (LtLicenceServerSetup.exe).

4. If you do not want the Licence Server software to be automatically updated, unselect
“Automatically install software updates”. It is recommended you leave this selected.
5. Read, and then accept the licence agreement by selecting “I agree to the licence terms and
conditions”.
6. Click on the “Install” button to start the software installation.
Note: The setup application will automatically open port 8085 in the Windows firewall. If the
computer uses a third-party firewall, then port 8085 must be manually opened.
Configure the Licence Server Settings
After the Licence Server setup application has finished there are several configuration settings that
need to be considered. The most common of these settings are configured via the Licence Server
console which has a web-based interface.
To configure the Licence Server settings:
1. Sign-in to any computer that can access the network that the Licence Server is connected
to and then launch a web browser.
2. In the address bar of the web browser, type the name of the Licence Server computer,
followed by :8085 and press the Enter key. E.g. http://licenceserver:8085 This will display
the Licence Server console web interface.
3. The first time the Licence Server console is accessed the “Set Administrator Password”
page is displayed.
4. Type in an administrator password that fulfils the complexity requirements.
5. Click the “OK” button to set the administrator password.
6. On the “Licence Server Status” page, in the “Server Settings” section, click the “Edit”
button.
7. On the “Licence Server Settings” page, configure the settings as required and then click the
“Save” button.
Note: Please refer to the inbuilt Licence Server help topics for details of these settings.

External Access to the Licence Server
If your organisation requires access to licences hosted on your Licence Server from outside the
office LAN, then your IT networking person will need to configure your network equipment to
allow external traffic on port 8085 to be directed to the Licence Server computer.
With literally thousands of different brands and models of modems, routers, and firewalls
available, it is not possible to provide detailed steps on how to configure your equipment, but your
IT networking person should be able to assist you with this.
Changing the Port used by the Licence Server
In some rare cases it might be necessary to change the port that the Licence Server uses to
communicate with client computers.
To change the port:
1. Log on as an administrator to the computer running the Licence Server software.
2. Using a text editor like Notepad.exe, open the Licence Server settings file:
"C:\ProgramData\LISTECH\LicenceServer\LicenceServer.ini".
3. In the “[Server]” section, locate the entry “WebPort=8085” and change the port value to
that required.
4. Save the file and then restart the “LISTECH Licence Server” service.
Notes: The firewall on the computer running the Licence Server software must be manually
configured to allow traffic on the newly configured port.
To configure a different external port to that used for the internal port, add an entry
“ExternalWebPort=X” to the “[Server]” section, where “X” is the required port number.

Configure Neo to access the Licence Server
Once the Licence Server has been successfully installed and configured, and the licence has been
successfully activated and configured on the Licence Server, it is now ready for Neo to access it.
The first time Neo is ever run on a computer it will automatically try and locate a Licence Server on
the same LAN it is connected to. If Neo finds a Licence Server, it will automatically connect to it
then try and lease a seat from licences hosted on the Licence Server, in the order the licences
appear in the “Licences Hosted” list on the Licence Server.
If Neo cannot automatically find a Licence Server and/or a licence with an available seat, then you
will need to configure Neo manually.
To manually configure Neo to use a licence from a Licence Server:
1. Run Neo.
2. Click on “File/Info/Manage Licence”:
to display the “Manage Licence” window.
3. In the “Manage Licence” window click on the “Network” button:
to display the “Network Licences” window.

Server computer, then click “OK”:
If the Licence Server computer is found, you will be taken back to the “Network Licences”
window where a list of licences hosted on the Licence Server will be displayed.
6. In the “Network Licences” window click on the licence you would like to use and then click
on the “Add” button.
If the licence you are wanting to add is password protected then you will be prompted to
enter the password before it will be added. Repeat this step for any other licences you
would like to use on the computer.
7. In the “Network Licences” window click on the “Close” button to return you to the “Manage
Licence” window.
