Details of Shree-Lipi 7 layout

Shree-Lipi 7 layout has been introduced for Sanskrit. Following are the differences in ShreeLipi 4/5/6
layout and 7 layout -
The following new characters have been introduced in the main font:
a small shiroresha () piece for using in conjuncts like Ngkya (), Ngkhya () etc., kra (),
double dand ( ), Dva (), Dga (), dvra (), ddhra (), ktra (), rukar for da conjuncts like dda
(), ddha () etc. and nukta (, , ).
• An auxiliary font has been introduced to accommodate some of the characters, which could not
be accommodated in the main font.
• The following 10 characters have been shifted from main font to auxiliary font:
1 - *, 2 - +, 3 - :, 4 - ;, 5 - =, 6 - Rroo (i), 7 - Lru (j), 8 - Vedic anuswar (J), 9 - em dash (b) and
10 - en dash (a). In addition, vowel Lroo (c) has been newly introduced in auxiliary font. All the
Vedic anuswars from font 966 have been introduced in the auxiliary font - A, B, C, D, E, F, G,
H, I, K, L, M, N, O, P. The typing help for auxiliary font can be seen from Shree-Lipi menu-
>Help->Auxiliary Font Typing.

Typing Sanskrit accents and some special keys

It is possible to type accent marks and some special keys from any keyboard layout of your choice. To
do this, first type Ctrl + Shift + 1, and then type the required key. The key and the characters are as
follows:

a: —(nukta for Shree-Lipi 7 layout, Vedic anuswar for Shree-Lipi 4,5,6 layout ) s: ¦ d: ¤ f:
 g: … h:  j:  k: ¡ l:  (piece of shiroresha only for Shree-Lipi 7 layout)
For example, if you want to type ¡ character, then first type ¡, then press Ctrl +Shift +1 key and then
type k (lower case) character. Similar sequence has to be used for other accents also.

Typing of alternate form of some characters in ShreeLipi 7

layout:
We have introduced old type of kra character in ShreeLipi 7 layout ( ¡). It is also possible to type
modern style kra (). Press Ctrl + Shift + Tilde (~) to toggle between the two types of kra characters.
Once the Ctrl + Shift + Tilde (~) key is pressed, the kra will change to () always till you press Ctrl +
Shift + Tilde (~) key again. If type kra in the normal way and then press the Ctrl + Shift + Tilde (~) key,
it will change the just typed kra also.

You can also have alternate forms of the conjunct ktra ( ) which can be typed in a similar way.

Typing  in ENG keyboard: Type g + Ctrl Space + r and then ya.

Sanskrit Key Sequences

The following table gives key sequences required to type all the vowel signs and conjuncts required for

For detailed help for a specific keyboard layout, please use Keyboard Help. This help is available in
help menu of Shree-Lipi. Clicking this menu will show the help for the currently selected keyboard of
the current language.

Details of Shreelipi_Ex (SLX) layout

A new layout Shreelipi_Ex (SLX) has been introduced for Sanskrit. This is a 16 bit layout and hence
supports a large number of extra characters required to compose the Sanskrit text. It supports a much
bigger set of conjuncts, different accents and Vedic anuswars in a single font. All the conjuncts
supported in the Shree-Lipi 7 layout are supported in the SLX layout also. Details of the typing
sequences, wherever different from SL7 layout, are given in further help.
