[email protected]VIDA Management seeks to engage (1) Community-Based Facilitator (CBF) per sub county for the three-year,
government-funded Agribusiness Consultancy Project, which aims to promote inclusive rural transformation through
the sustainable development of the oilseeds sector. The project's primary objective is to accelerate the
commercialization of key oilseed value chains, thereby improving the livelihoods and resilience of smallholder
households. Each CBF will be responsible for managing the Community Mobilization and Agribusiness Development
component of the National Oilseeds Project, implemented by the Ministry.
Job Summary
The Community-Based Facilitator (CBF) plays a crucial role in bridging the gap between farmer Groups, technical
staff, and other stakeholders within the subcounty. His/her roles typically focus on community mobilization, technical
support, training, and monitoring of Group’s activities within subcounty assigned to ensure the effective adoption of
oilseed farming practices.
Responsibilities
In coordination with the Field Extension Officer, carry out community inception activities, group formation, Existing
Groups profiling.
Organize the community into functional member-owned producer groups. Ensure diversity, gender inclusivity in all
activities in the Sub counties ensuring 60-30-10 %group dynamics
Support the organizational development of farmer/producer groups (including regular meetings, conflict resolution,
etc.)
Support each producer group to participatorily select its priority Oilseed enterprise and value chain
Support each producer group to develop its production and marketing plan in line with a cost benefit analysis for
the value chains selected.
Train producer groups on GAP using the approved approaches
Support the establishment and maintenance of demonstration plots
Follow-up and mentor/coach farmer groups/VSLAs on the trainings administered
Advice on processing techniques, and respective methods for value addition
Mobilize, monitor and support producer groups in setting up their value addition units
Participates in participatory market assessments and market reviews
Support farmer groups to identify and select “preferred buyers”
Liaise with Field extension Officer to source market information and disseminate to farmer groups.
Regularly mentor and monitor the progress of VSLA groups by ensuring that group weekly meetings are organized
and held, and Agro-input savings are in force.
Oversee the share out meetings and commencement of the subsequent cycles.
Report monthly on achieved milestones and fulfilled indicators in line with the project’s M&E system.
Provide linkage between the group/community and Project staff, local governments and other partners. Ensure
involvement of local leaders at community and subcounty in community activities where applicable.
Qualification
Minimum of a certificate in Agriculture, or related field
At least 1–2 years of experience in community mobilization and/or agricultural extension, group formation and
engagements preferably with oilseed crops.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with knowledge of local languages.
Experience working with farmer groups or cooperatives carrying out GALS, Farmer field schools’ approaches in the
region is an added advantage
Familiarity with the local context and willingness to live and work in sub counties assigned.
Fluency in Local Language is a must
