1. The potential differences (p.d.) measured across three resistors connected in series are 5V, 7 V
and 10V, and the supply current is 2A. Determine (a) the supply voltage (b) the total circuit
resistance and (c) the values of the three resistors.
2. For the circuit shown in Figure 1, determine the value of V1. If the total circuit resistance is 36
ohm determine the supply current and the value of resistors R1, R2 and R3.

3. When the switch in the circuit shown in Figure 2 is closed the reading on voltmeter 1 is 30V
and that on voltmeter 2 is 10V. Determine the reading on the ammeter and the value of resistor
Rx.
4. Two resistors are connected in series across an 18V supply and a current of 5A flows through
them. If one of the resistor has a value of 2.4 ohm determine (a) the value of the other resistor
and (b) the potential difference across the 2.4 ohm resistor.
5. An oven takes 15A at 240V. It is required to reduce the current to 12A. Find (a) the resistor
which must be connected in series and (b) the voltage across the resistor.
6. For the series-parallel arrangement shown in Figure 3, find (a) the supply current, (b) the current
flowing through each resistor and (c) the p.d. across each resistor.

7. For the circuit shown in Figure 4 calculate (a) the value of resistor Rx such that the total power
dissipated in the circuit is 2.5kW, and (b) find the current flowing in each of the four resistors.
8. Resistances of 4 Ω and 12 Ω are connected in parallel across a 9V battery. Determine (a) the
equivalent circuit resistance, (b) the supply current, and (c) the current in each resistor.

10. A resistor of 8 Ω is connected in parallel with one of 12 Ω and the combination is connected
in series with one of 4 Ω. A p.d. of 10V is applied to the circuit. The 8Ω resistor is now placed
across the 4 Ω resistor. Find the p.d. required to send the same current through the 8 Ω resistor.
11. For the bridge network shown in Figure 6, determine the currents in each of the resistors.
