About the Organization: A.P.C. Mahalaxmi College for Women, Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu,
is a reputed Arts and Science College established in 1973 by the visionary founder, Kulapathi
Thiru A. P. C. Veerabahu. His noble goal of empowering women through quality education
continues to be pursued with dedication under the efficient stewardship of Thiru A.P.C. V.
Chockalingam, Honorable President, and the able guidance of Thirumathi C. Subbulakshmi,
Honorable Secretary. Affiliated to Manomaniam Sundaranar University, Tirunelveli, the college
offers a wide range of Aided and Unaided programs across various disciplines. A distinctive
hallmark of the institution is its unwavering policy of not collecting any capitation fee for
admissions or appointments since its inception. The college has also emerged as a centre for
advanced research, offering Ph.D. programs in Tamil, English, Commerce, Mathematics, and
Chemistry. Its commitment to academic excellence is reflected in being awarded an A+ Grade in
the Fourth Cycle of NAAC Accreditation and securing the 78th position in the NIRF India

The P.G. and Research Department of English, in collaboration with the SWAYAM-NPTEL Local
Chapter (ID:3094), A.P.C. Mahalaxmi College for Women, is proud to organize this initiative to
promote quality online education and skill enhancement. Since becoming a Local Chapter in 2019,
the college has actively participated in numerous NPTEL and SWAYAM courses, earning
accolades for its high rate of enrollment, registration, and certification from IITs and other
prestigious institutions across India. With a shared commitment to lifelong Learning and digital
empowerment, this collaborative effort continues to inspire academic excellence and professional
growth among students and faculty members alike.
About the program: This Program explores the intersection of human rights and literature,
examining how literary texts serve as catalysts for social change. Participants will engage with
interdisciplinary approaches that connect literature to human rights advocacy, digital activism, and
historical narratives of resistance. Over five days, expert-led discussions will cover diverse
perspectives, from cultural histories of human rights to contemporary digital platforms that shape
advocacy. The pedagogical aspect will focus on integrating human rights discourse into literary
studies, ensuring that educators can effectively bring this conversation into classrooms and
scholarly debates. The program will incorporate themes of justice, dignity, activism, and
resistance, helping participants analyze literature as both a reflection and a tool for social justice
movements.

Understand the intersection of human rights and literature across historical, political, and

Explore digital storytelling as a tool for human rights activism.
Implement interdisciplinary methodologies for teaching literature with a human rights
perspective.
