PURPOSE OF THE COURSE


This course aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the theoretical
foundations, processes, and practical applications involved in designing,
implementing, and evaluating educational curricula across different educational
levels. Students will explore fundamental concepts such as the definitions of
curriculum, aims, goals, and objectives, alongside taxonomies of educational
objectives that guide curriculum development. The course will cover various general
theories and models of curriculum design, emphasizing basic principles and
processes essential for effective curriculum development. Additionally, the course
will address current and emerging issues in curriculum development, preparing
students to critically analyze and contribute to ongoing advancements and
challenges in educational practices.

EXPECTED LEARNING OUTCOMES


By the end of this course the leaner will be able to:
i) Explain the basic concepts in Curriculum Development
ii) Describe the elements of Curriculum projects in Kenyan context;
iii) Apply the basic knowledge and skills gained to develop, implement, and
evaluate primary and secondary Curriculum, especially in his/her subject
area
iv) Describe the role of Evaluation in the Curriculum Development process
