Lesson Plan: Istinja and Toilet Etiquette in Islam

Grade: R

Duration: 15 minutes (Circle Time)

Theme: Cleanliness in the Bathroom (Istinja and Toilet Etiquette)

Objective:

By the end of the lesson, learners will:

Understand the importance of keeping clean after using the toilet (Istinja).

Learn the correct toilet manners in Islam.

Participate in a fun, interactive activity to reinforce good toilet habits.

Lesson Structure

1. Welcome & Warm-Up (2 minutes)

Greet children with “Assalamu Alaikum!”

Recite the du’a before entering the toilet:

‫اللهم إني أعوذ بك من الخبث والخبائث‬

(O Allah, I seek refuge with You from evil and impure things.)

Explain that Muslims say this du’a to ask Allah for protection.

2. Discussion: What is Istinja? (4 minutes)

Ask: “What should we do after using the toilet?”

Show pictures of water, toilet tissue, and washing hands.

Explain:

Istinja means cleaning ourselves with water after using the toilet.

We should always use water or toilet paper to clean properly.

Washing hands after using the toilet keeps us clean and healthy.

The Prophet Muhammad (SAW) taught us to keep our bodies pure.

3. Activity: Toilet Manners Sorting Game (6 minutes)

Show different pictures of actions (e.g., washing hands, facing Qiblah, wasting water, using
the left hand for cleaning).

Ask children to say “Yes, good!” or “No, not good!” for each action.

Emphasize:

Good habits: Using the left hand, washing properly, saying du’a.

Not good habits: Facing Qiblah, being messy, not washing hands.

4. Wrap-Up & Reflection (3 minutes)

Recite the du’a for leaving the toilet:

( ‫غفرانك‬I seek Your forgiveness, O Allah.)

Ask: “What will you do after using the toilet?” (Encourage answers like washing hands and
keeping clean.)

End with a cheerful “Alhamdulillah for cleanliness!”
