AOAC 910.01 Calcio en Plantas Titrimetrico

The document outlines the AOAC Official Method 910.01 for determining calcium in plants using a titrimetric macro method. It details the procedure for preparing samples, precipitating calcium, and titrating with potassium permanganate. The method specifies that 1 mL of 0.01M KMnO4 corresponds to 1.002 mg of calcium.

Calcium in Plants
Titrimetric Macro Method
First Action 1910
Final Action 1933
Transfer aliquot of Solution I, 920.08 (see 3.1.05), to 200 mL
beaker, add H2O if necessary to volume of 50 mL, heat to boiling,
and add 10 mL saturated (NH4)2C2O4 solution and drop methyl red
(dissolve 1 g methyl red in 200 mL alcohol). Almost neutralize with
NH4OH and boil until precipitate is coarsely granular. Cool, add
NH4OH (1 + 4) until color is faint pink (pH 5.0), and let stand ³4 h.
Filter, and wash with H2O at room temperature until filtrate is
oxalate-free. [Reserve filtrate and washings for Mg determination,
920.09 (see 3.3.09)].
Break point of filter with Pt wire, and wash precipitate into beaker
in which Ca was precipitated, using stream of hot H2O. Add ca
10 mL H2SO4 (1 + 4), heat to ca 90°C, add ca 50 mL hot H2O, and
titrate with 0.01M KMnO4. Finally add filter paper to solution and
complete titration.

1 mL 0.01M KMnO4 = 1.002 mg Ca
