Q1) (15 P)
Figure 1 shows a front view of planetary train system Planet P1 and
P2 are made together from the same piece of metal and have 40
and 32 teeth, respectively. Sun S1 is the input member, and has 24
teeth. Sun S2 is fixed. All gears have the same pitch. Find the speed
and the sense of output shaft if the speed of input shaft is
10rev/sec in ccw. direction on the left side view.
Q2) (15 P)
The gears shown in the figure have a normal module of 5
mm, a normal pressure angle of 20°, and a 30° helix angle
transmit 1.5 kW hp at a speed of 900 rev/min. Gear 2 rotates
clockwise about the y axis, as viewed from the positive y axis.
Find the forces exerted by gear 2 on its shaft a.

Q4) (300 P)
A certain application requires a ball bearing with the inner ring rotating, with a design life of 20 kh
at a speed of 300 rev/min. The applied radial load is 6 kN and axial load is 3 kN an application
factor of 1.2 is appropriate. The reliability goal is 0.90. Find the catalog rating C10 with which to
enter a bearing table. Choose an appropriate minimum size 02-series deep-groove ball bearing
from Table 11–2,
                                                                                       29 AGUST 2021
