1. What can this Reverse Osmosis Do?

First of all thanks for purchasing this Reverse Osmosis single tap drinking water system. It’s
designed to give you fresh, clean and safe drinking water from one single lead free tap
installed in your kitchen.
Reverse Osmosis is the most advanced technology of water filtering and purification being
used in households today.
The membrane used in this unit is a semi permeable membrane capable of purifying
drinking water from virtually all harmful impurities (viruses, nitrates, …).
The membrane consisting of three layers: a polyester support web, a microporous
polysulfone interlayer and an ultra-thin polyamide barrier layer on the top surface. Thin film
composite membranes are packed in a spiral wound configuration.

Aqua Control Reverse Osmosis Systems uses a 5 or 6 stage filtration unit. The unit is connected
to the cold water supply wit hour feed valve adapter. The special tubing carrying the inlet
water to the pre filtration cartridges. These filter is designed to remove solids (dirt, silt,
sediment, sand, etc. ), residential chlorine from the water. After these 3 filters, the water
enters into the Reverse Osmosis membrane. The first outlet provides pure water and the
second one is the waste water, also the concentrate called. The outlet of the water enters a
special pressure tank for storage. At the outlet of the membrane is an auto shut off valve
installed. The water then flows to the storage tank, where the system stores purified water
for sufficient flow. Time required to fill the storage tank can range from 1.5 up 4 hours
depending on incoming pressure. The concentrate water, the water with the impurities is
discharged into the drain using a drain pipe connected to the drain line flow controller. When
the small tap is opened to draw water, the water flows from the storage tank over a post
carbon filter for a final purification. This filter improves and refines the flavour of the filtered
water.

4. Step by step installation guide

Before starting the installation make sure that all parts are presented in the package and
check following requirements: Check main inlet water pressure, RO tank pressure and supply
water temperature as set out in 2.1 and 2.2

4.1 Installation Steps

This system has been tested by the manufacturer for leaks within the allowed parameters of
main water pressure.
Wash your hand firmly with ant-bacterial soap before handling components.
This system should preferably be installed away from direct sunlight and heat sources.

1. Remove the reverse osmosis system out the box and remove all packaging. Check the
equipment.
2. Shut off the incoming water to the kitchen sink and open the cold water tap to relieve
pressure for about 3 minutes.
3. Screw the feed valve into the feed water adapter and connect both to the cold water
supply. Use PTFE tape to prevent leaks in the water supply.
4. Unscrew the compression nut from the feed valve and insert the tubing for the water
inlet of the RO unit and tighten the nut. Cut tubing to size and connect the other end
to the inlet of the RO unit which is located at the back right hand side of the unit.

Picture 1

5. Connect the drain saddle to the waste water pipe from the kitchen sink. Drill a small
hole of 5 mm in the waste pipe, apply the rubber seal with the sticky base and install
the drain saddle on the waste pipe as seen on picture 2. Tighten the saddle with the
screws proved and connect the ro tubing to the saddle. Cut the RO tubing to size and
connect them to the drain line flow control as shown below with the black tubing in
picture 3

Picture 2 Picture 3
6. Add about 7-9 wraps of PTFE tape to the top of the tank and hand tighten the tank
valve onto the tank top. Do not overtighten as that may cause damage to the valve
and/or tank connection. Close the tank valve.
IMPORTANT: Check the air pressure inside the storage tank when the tank is empty.
Pressure should be 0.4-0.6 bar. If needed, use a pump to increase the pressure to the
desired pressure. Check with a pressure gauge. To deflate the pressure, push the
centre of the valve.
7. The installation of the tap on top the kitchen sink.
Drill a 12.5 mm hole for the drinking tap in a convenient place at the sink or
countertop. Be careful of metal shavings. Remove the shavings as soon as you have
drilled the hole and clean the hole from any debris. If mounted on stone or marble
countertop, a special drill may be needed.
Mount the tap on the sink or countertop as shown on the figure 4. Nut, lock washer
and if needed plastic washer on the faucet shank must be fixed firmly on the surface.
Take the tubing, put on the compression nut, ferrule and put plastic insert inside in
this order.
Push the tubing as deep as possible inside the bottom of the faucet’s shank thus
ensuring the compression ring is in the joint. Screw on the compression nut in order
to join the tube to the faucet.

8. Select the place where you are going to install the filter and make 2 holes in the wall
to hang the unit onto the wall. Allow at least 100mm between the bottom filter and
the floor for easy filter change later. Distance between the holes is 290mm
9. Insert the 5 micron pp cartridge in the first incoming filter and the GAC cartridge in
the middle filter housing.
10. Tighten the 2 housings by hand and put a bucket on the third open filter housing.
11. Switch on the power supply. Open the water inlet to the unit and let 5-7 litres of water
pass through the first 2 filters. This is to wash the carbon residues (black in colour)
that may appear from shipping. Close the inlet water again and install the 3rd cartridge.
12. Install the RO membrane in the RO housing. Open the housing first before cutting the
plastic bag open. Install the membrane without first unpacking it by pushing it into the
RO housing straight from the bag. Do not tough the membrane by hand.
13. Open the water inlet and the small RO tap but leave the valve from the water storage
tank closed. After you see water coming from the tap, close the tap and check for
leaks. After the first week of installation, check the system for leaks. If you are leaving
for a long time (business trip or holiday), shut off the water supply and when you come
back empty the storage tank by closing the water inlet and opening the tap until the
pressure at the tap drops, then open the water inlet again and close the tap.
14. Let the storage tank fill. Once you hear the pump stop running (1.5-4 hours depending
on pressure), open the RO tap and empty the tank. Close the tap so that the unit can
start refilling the tank. Once this tank is full, you can start using the RO water.
15. At first the water may look cloudy due to air in the system. Leave the glass of water
for a few minutes and the air will escape. This is normal and will clear as the air is
eventually flushed out of the filters.

5. What to do after the installation.

1. Check the time needed to fill the storage tank fully from empty. The time is
depending on the water pressure.
2. Recovery : tools needed are a stopwatch and a 1 litre measuring cup.
Shut off the storage tank and open the RO tap. Measure the time it takes to
produce 1 litre of water (permeate). Then close the tap and write down
Tpermeate. Disconnect the tubing from the drain, open the RO tap and measure
the time it take to produce 1 litre of waste water. Write down Tconcentrate.
Calculate recovery time using the formula below.

R,% = [ Tconcentrate / (Tpermeate + Tconcentrate) ] x 100%

3. Check TDS of supply water and purified water

4. Check if the minimum and maximum auto shut valves are working properly.
Close the RO storage tank and RO tap. The pump should stop operating within 15
minutes.
5. Check the unit for leaks.
6. Advice the owner of the newly installed unit on the filter maintenance time and
encourage him to read this manual.
7. Make a record of this commissioning in the maintenance log book on chapter 9.

6. Replacement Procedures
This Reverse Osmosis unit is designed for cold water domestic usage only.
If the pump takes longer to fill the tank after time, this means that the filters need
replacement. Delay in maintaining this unit can result in deterioration or destruction of the
RO membrane. In order to avoid such a critical situation, Aqua Control strongly
recommends that you change pre-filter cartridges at least every 6 months and replace the
RO membrane every year.
If you plan to leave for an extended time 2 weeks or more, it is recommended to shut off
the water and follow step 4.1.13
6.1 Filter stages and the recommended replacement time
Stage of Filtration Name of Cartridge Replacement Time
First Pre filter cartridges for RO
Second unit. Life depends on usage 3-6 months
Third and supply
Fourth Reverse Osmosis Membrane Once a year
Fifth Post Carbon Filter 6 months
Sixth Mineral Filter/Bioceramic 6 months

6.2 Replacement filters

1. Shut off the incoming water to the RO unit, RO water storage tank and switch off pump
and open the RO tap to relieve pressure.
2. Wash your hand with anti-bacteria soap and remove the outer packaging from the 3
filter cartridges.
3. Unscrew with a wrench the first 2 filter housing and remove the filter cartridges. Be
careful since these housings are still full of water.
4. Remove cartridges, wash filter housing with unflavoured soap and a sponge and rinse
fully with water.
5. Fit the new 5 micron in the first and GAC cartridge in the second filter housing and hand
tighten the housings
6. Unscrew the 3rd filter housing, remove the cartridge and wash also this filter housing.
7. Open the inlet and leave about 7 litres of water flow into a bucket. Then close the
incoming water and fit the 3rd cartridge inside the filter housing and hand tighten the
filter housing.
8. Open the feed water. After 2 minutes open the RO tap and after another minute open
the RO storage tank.

6.3 Replacing RO membrane.

Membrane replacement should be done by a qualified specialist

1. Turn off incoming water, power supply and RO storage tank and open tap to relieve
pressure
2. Disconnect white tubing from housing by removing the blue security clips and push
the white small holding clamp back to the elbow, then remove white tubing.
3. Unscrew RO housing cap and remove RO membrane. Remember which end goes in
first.
4. Lubricate the seals of the fresh membrane and the RO housing. ONLY USE FOOD
GRADE GLYCEROL AS LUBRICANT.
5. Install the RO membrane back into the housing as prescribed in 4.1.12
6. Screw on RO housing and reconnect white tubing and security blue clips
7. Close drinking water tap, open water inlet to unit and open RO storage tank.
8. Once tank is empty, close small RO tap and wait for the RO tank to refill. This may
take up to 4 hours depending on the water pressure. Once RO storage tank is full
and pump is switched off, open tap and empty the RO storage tank again. Once the
tank is empty, close the tap and after the second refill, you can safely use the
produced water.

6.4 Replacing post filters

1. Turn off water supply to RO unit, RO storage tank, power supply to pump and open
RO tap to release pressure.
2. Disconnect the tubing at both ends of the post carbon/ mineral/bioceramic filter.
3. Remove used filter(s) from holding brackets
4. Install new post carbon/mineral /bioceramic filter.
5. Reconnect the white tubing and blue security clips.
6. Open the inlet water, RO storage tank valve and switch in pump. Open the tap and
release the water. Leave the water flow until the storage is empty. Close the tap and
wait for the tank for refill. Once the tank is full, the you can safely use the RO water.

7 Sanitization.
This process is recommended after the unit has been in use for an extended period of time
(about 6-12 months). It is also desirable to sanitize the system when replacing cartridges.
1. Shut off incoming feed valve and tank valve. Switch off pump and open the RO tap to
release the pressure.
2. Remove and discard the pre-filtration cartridges and post cartridges
3. Remove RO membrane with a needle nose pliers. Put the membrane into a tight bag
and store in fridge at 2-5 C. Only if reuse of RO membrane is needed.
4. Screw back second and 3rd filter housing, close RO membrane and connect tap
directly with tee without post carbon filter.
5. Put a chlorine tablet inside the first filter, or use ½ litre of Milton and screw on the
filter housing
6. After 15 minutes, open the tap, incoming feed valve, RO storage tank and RO pump.
7. When water is running out of the tap and you can smell the chlorine, close the tap,
wait for 2 minutes, close incoming feed water and switch off pump.
8. Leave inside the system for 2-3 hours.
9. Open the feed valve, pump power supply and tap until the chlorine smell is gone.
10. Install all consumables back again into the RO unit, open the RO storage tank,
incoming water and switch pump back on.
11. Drain the tank and refill for at least 2/3 time (until chlorine odour is gone).
12. If you don’t want to sanitise the RO tank, leave it close during disinfection process.
